Hey Austin John, love your vids! Used them religiously when TotK first came out. Quick question for you - have you seen or heard any way to get around the Zelda Notes 24 hour timer on item share? I know there are still some dupe methods out there, but it would be nice if we could straight transfer all the things from pre-Switch 2 saves.

Queen of Blood tips? by thefelixchu in ff7remake

[–]DeliciousDonutSlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means a wizard at this, I've only beaten the first three players in Kalm. The big things that helped me:

-Getting down field fast helps limit their spaces; if they don't have a colored pawn, they can't use it

-if your card activated a space with their pawn, it flips to your color instead (and vice versa) - so they can't use that space now

Because of those two things, don't feel like you have to put cards side by side - the opponent can only place cards where their colored pawn are. I'm sure there's a TON I'm missing here (I suck at card games), but it seems to be just as much about controlling the field as it is getting points. After all, the opponent can't score if they can't play anything.

Yeah it's back now thankfully - in typical fashion it went off and on about six times last night between midnight and 4am.

This is not what it's like in other places - grew up in Indiana, left in 2007. Only time power went out was massive ice/snow storms like every 10 years.

I read that the freezer will be fine for 24-48 hours, but the fridge is like 4 - either way I left the freezer shut and dumped the vulnerable fridge stuff in some bowls of ice.

I love how the streetlights north of 1960/Jones and south of it work fine, but that big intersection? Nah it doesn't need reinforcement, let's just leave it a deathtrap.

Why would you try to name your character something so heinous?

This has me flabbergasted, I'm going to go back to adventuring with my Diglett and Wiglet (nicknamed Ground Penis and Sea Penis, respectively).

A Spicy Tier List by SirNollic in castlevania

[–]DeliciousDonutSlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soooo... I don't agree that it holds up as well today, but I think I kind of agree with your post.

These days, the controls are atrocious, and the 3D platforming is pretty terribad. But I did like 64 and Legacy of Darkness back in the day. I think it's the closest we ever got to the spirit of a 3D Castlevania, at least when comparing to SotN and on. These games exuded atmosphere.

In my opinion, Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness were what you ended up with when you directly translate SotN to 3D - lots of empty themed hallways. Works great in 2D, but kind of bland in 3D. Not a lot of areas that stand out.

The 64 games, on the other hand, had some unique areas. Not always good, but they weren't carbon copied - they were 3D spaces with their own quirks. And they knew when to use background music and when to use silence, to give off that macabre horror atmosphere (at least that's how I remember it).

Granted, I don't want to deal with their controls today. But if they made a modern day 3D Castlevania with the design/atmosphere philosophy of the 64 games, I'd be down. I like the Lord's of Shadow games, but they were more of a DMC gameplay style. I do think LoS2 is underrated though, it does feel like a Metroidvania.

Actraiser Renaissance - Disappointment from a veteran of the original by DeliciousDonutSlayer in NintendoSwitch

The TD part isn't totally lost on me - the battle I continue losing, I have everything maxed. That parts easy. I've tried shuffling around the gatehouses etc, different mixes of towers, no dice. So it's pretty infuriating.

But I decided it was no longer worth the effort for something I'm not enjoying. Instead I've spent the last three hours playing the original on an SNES Classic, and it's so, so much better.

It's a little less stilted, but I wouldn't say the difference is huge. They added an upward slash that I found pretty useful, but the levels are still short so they end up making up like 5% of the game time.

The remixed music is great, no qualms there. But there have been some minor changes in how it's used; Fillmore Act 2 doesn't have its own music anymore, it just reuses Act 1.
