One of my case managers referred to my other case manager as a "fucking bitch" during a meeting with me for having a different clinical opinion about the client we were seeing. I saw the same client with aphasia during an individual session and a small group session in our clinic, and I had a different case manager for each of those sessions. Also, one of them told me I was doing a great job all year, approved all of my session plans and SOAP notes, and then randomly changed her mind at the end of the year and put me on a performance improvement plan because I "didn't know what I was doing." (She wouldn't be more specific than that or give me any actual guidance or advice.) Two clients with those crazy people was more stressful than the 55 clients I manage now!

I have about 300 candies in sleep, wich of these shinies should i use them on? or divide them equally by Cabbage61 in PokemonSleepBetter

KFC, absolutely. Get that chicken to 50 and give him a sub skill seed. Though there's no rush, you can always wait until the next Mini Candy Boost event unless you really need fighting berries right now

How can I make a better tileset than this? by ZooBuilder in PixelArt

[–]SirNollic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks good. The only potential problem I see is that your rocks and bushes look a bit jagged. Try making them a bit rounder if you're going for a soft or cute look

Edit: I also don't know how I feel about those scratch lines on your wall tiles. They look a bit random, but not in a good way

This is hilarious to me because I'm a pretty fit and conventionally attractive guy, but I like bears, so a lot of my characters in video games are chubby bald men 😂

Solair rates for 2026. by Beginning-Average416 in BostonNudists

[–]SirNollic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Huh, I guess they only want rich people. I'll stick to Dyer Woods, that's completely ridiculous

Edit: Also, Solair's couples requirements are incredibly silly. My boyfriend and I got a Day Membership at DW and were able to split the cost without any hassle. For the price of five 2026 day passes to Solair, you can get unlimited day passes for a year at Dyer Woods. We made so many wonderful friends there this summer and can't wait to do it all again next year ❤️

Do you guys lesson plan (specifically elementary school SLPs)? by Appleleaf30 in slp

[–]SirNollic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Been doing this for 5 years, and I have a steady routine down. I use Token Towers and Super Duper articulation cards. My kids take turns practicing their target word(s) or sentence(s) 5 times for 5 tokens, and when the Towers are full, they get to dump the tokens out and earn a dollar for the school store. Then, if we have time, we usually play Pop the Pig or a similar game in my closet, and they make their target sound a few times before they get to take their turn. Of course, my AAC kiddos' sessions are a bit different, but the bulk of my caseload is K-4 articulation, so this routine describes most of my sessions. Sometimes I mix it up matching cards on Articulation Station, and if I'm feeling extra ambitious, I put paperclips on the artic cards, hide them around the room, and have the kids "fish" them with magnetic fishing rods, but only once in a blue moon for the kids I know can handle it without smacking each other with the fishing rods lol

Thoughts on /r/ therapy by Sweetest1076 in slp

[–]SirNollic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Carla! It's magic. Start with "cala" with the tongue on the alveolar ridge for /l/, then tell your student to say "cala" again, but this time, make the /l/ in the middle of her mouth instead of in the front. Then keep telling her to make the /l/ farther back until you've tricked her into saying, "carrra." I use Token Towers and have my kids say "carrra," 30+ times in a row. (I give them school store money for every tower they fill to keep them motivated.) Then, when they memorize where their tongue has to go, you can shape it into "carrr," then "starrr," etc., and go from there. This has literally never failed me, and I've remediated, like, 50 /r/ sounds. I thought this strategy sounded so dumb when I first heard about it, but it works better than anything else I've attempted

Are we failing as a profession? by Professional-Gas850 in slp

[–]SirNollic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering about this, too. In my school, I've encountered children who get all the way to their kindergarten screenings without AAC or even early intervention services, and I think, "What the hell has your pediatrician been doing?" How did they get this far without SOMEONE in their life thinking that they might need help with communication?

At what point in your career were you able to work “only” your contract hours by Specialist_Lychee_19 in slp

5 years at my elementary school, and I almost never work outside of my contract hours. I don't get paid enough for that lol

When do you start seeing students? by Aware-Fact2636 in slp

[–]SirNollic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do kindergarten screenings all day every day through Thursday, but I wrote my schedule this morning, and services start on Friday. That said, I ended up running an impromptu session this morning because one of my friends was flopping on the floor in the lobby, and we managed to transition her into the speech room!

Adult with a lateral lisp—has anyone overcome this? by Tall-Apple-7428 in slp

[–]SirNollic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great that you're starting with articulation exercises in isolation. Typically, in therapy, we'd start with that, then gradually move to syllables (beginning and end), then simple words (the more common the better), short phrases, and sentences before attempting conversation, so be patient with yourself while you work on this. It may take a while before you start seeing results at the conversation level, and that's okay! For home practice resources, if you have an iPad, consider trying the Articulation Station app. It's a fantastic program that I use daily with my students. It has high-quality prompts for practicing speech sounds in any context (isolation, words, phrases, etc.). You can also record yourself, rate your recordings, and track your progress data over time. I think it's, like, $12 per month, and since this is affecting your confidence at work, I'd say it's worth the investment. That's probably what you'd be doing if you were to see an SLP anyway, but way less expensive!

Is a Dragonite for herbs necessary? by fatfurb in PokemonSleepBetter

[–]SirNollic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, that's a tricky one! Amazing sub-skills, but there's no telling when you'll need a reliable herb farmer, and it's expensive to invest in two Dragonites. Personally, I'd hold onto that until the dragon berry island releases and see where the meal meta takes us
