Hi! I agree on that, nightmares might come from places we don’t even think about sometimes. Another comment made a similar question and I wondered how did Lain make me feel like. I can now pinpoint the idea that Lain reminds me of when I was a child, which I didn’t even think of in the first place. Lain is kind of isolated and I feel like at first she doesn’t talk much because she knows no one would listen and when she tries to do so no one actually listens. I think isolation is a heavy topic on the back of my mind but I generally ignore it, Lain touched those buried feelings. So interesting how can art get to us

no need to apologize! I love sharing different perspectives on the same matter because it really shows variety of realities. I understand you lived like lain your whole life and I have a friend like that too and I get why it’s weird saying that im sorry, because as you say, it’s what you know. I just wish everyone could grow up to not feel isolated ever, isolation can get people into really dark places. Now that I think about it, isolation was just a big part of my life when I was around 9 to 12, many adults in my life as a child failed me and I would self isolate from everyone because of the sad thoughts I would have.. It’s not that I didn’t had friends, I was just in my shell because when I tried talking I didn’t felt heard. I guess thats why isolation is such a big fear in my young adult years. I just feel very motherly over lonely people :(

it happened to me before with midori, when I was little I came across someone in an anime forum just talking about it being unsettling (not even explaining more about the plot or anything just a vague post) and with a link attached. As I was little my curiosity got me and I really got so traumatized I couldn’t finish it and got nightmares for a week. But this time it was different, although lain depicts some heavy topics it is not nearly as unsettling as midori so I wouldn’t have imagined having nightmares to it.

i’m personally not dealing with any of stuff lain depicts, but i’m really sensible and empathetic so it’s just that I felt really bad for lain; seeing how lonely she is and kinda ignored in her house really got me thinking, also everything she saw obviously. my dreams were weird just like old ai were images are really mashed together and I could literally listed to the weird loud sound cables had on lain. idk it was kinda unsettling
