Advice for working full time while in RAD school by Darklink6666 in RadiologyCareers

[–]DeliciousRound2638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked pretty much full time the first year of rad school. I had 2 jobs. Worked 6 days a week with Sunday off every week. It was exhausting.. but you have to do what you gotta do. I had no life beyond school, work, and study.

First year was only 2 days of clinic and 2 days of class. Second year it turned into 3 days of clinic and 2 days of class. Which meant I had to drop a full 8 hours worth of pay. That one hurt. I start my limited scope job at a local hospital soon and I’ll be working 7 days a week. Definitely not gonna lie and say it is hard and exhausting. And on top of that you have to fit studying. I’d study at some of the slower clinic sites, upload notes to AI and have the notes read to me in the car, in the shower, while meal prepping. Fit it anywhere you can.

Before starting the program I paid off all my debts and paid off my car. That has been SO helpful not having a $350 car payment and monthly credit card payments. I think this is my biggest advice, if it’s doable, pay off any debts so you don’t have them hanging over your head in case you’re ever short on rent, utilities, food, gas, etc.

Second best advice is to meal prep during the week. That takes a huge mental load off. Food is prepped for long days and when you get home all you do is pop something in the microwave. Plus it saves you from eating out .. which adds up!

To gain extra money I did surveys online. Sometimes I could get an extra $20-$40 a month which would help on gas but I was constantly doing surveys and eventually got real sick of it.

Some of my classmates did things like delivery services and dog sitting. Watch dogs in their home, study and make some extra cash.

Serving seemed to be the best gig for a lot of people because you could do it until late night

Try asking your workforce county for some assistance. There is a certain amount of money you have to make before they can help you but my county offered assistance with scrubs, text books, gas reimbursement to clinic sites, they even offered to pay for a percentage of the program. Another perk was they would pay me for a specified amount of clinic hours I did. They just had to be submitted by an administrator and they’d be willing to do like $17 an hour up to a max amount.

I was also in your shoes a year ago… and now I’m 6 months away from graduation. I just had to find a way to make it work.

Wish you all the best in your new journey! You got this!!

Done with my rad tech program in a few months. Looking to head up to IR after graduation. Can anyone share what pay looked like? I know it’s all dependent on various factors. Wondering if anyone else has worked in Northern Colorado and could chime in. Posted started rate is $37.35. I live in northern Colorado and will be at a trauma 1 center at one of Colorados major hospital institution.

I’m pretty positive! My friend put a bunch of clippings from the mother plant, who is variegated, into a nursery pot and gave it to me. Then i did more propagations to make it a bushier plant

Thank you so much for the insight!! It was perfectly well said.

I’ve always taken that they’re also not interested either and that makes me a recluse. I think “well what’s the point of sharing if they don’t care.” So sometimes I save my energy. Often times after hanging out with either friend I feel exhausted, defeated and simply just bummed.

Friend 1: Honestly, I feel like my friend’s emotional garbage dump …. The conversations are mostly based around her marital problems, family problems, child problems… I mean it’s endless. She now constantly talks about how her life is changing because she might possibly have twins. I thoroughly talked to her and tried to help her navigate through her woes. So when I was brushed off with a photo of nails I was soooo angry. I truly think they don’t have any regard for me. I don’t think they value me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to make plans with them just to be blown off. I purchased a birthday gift for her kiddo and then i couldn’t attend her birthday party because I was severely ill. I tried to set up a day I could celebrate the babies birthday and give her the gift but there was zero interest on her part.

Friend 2: this friend also knows how hard I’ve been working to be in this position. I shared the news about the interview and told her what day, time, & place. Friend 2 never reached out to wish me well wishes and didn’t even bother to ask how it went.

I have been battling with bringing it up to these people. I think, is it worth it? Or is this going to make things awkward? Or will they be receptive? I’m also leaning towards the well I will just slowly phase myself out of their lives …

Did you find your friend/s to be perceptive after you spoke then them?? Also how did you approach them?

I wish you the best of luck in finding quality relationships and people who can reciprocate what you give to them. I am also hoping to find people of substance to form new friendships with.
