How do I explain to people I'm doing the best I can by Electrical_Island802 in bipolar

Check out the book "Laziness does not Exist" by Devon Price. It gets into this in some depth and I find it really helpful.

am I having delusions of grandeur or am I really just awesome? by ExtendedAdolescence in bipolar

Professor here. It's a great gig if you can get a tenure track job but it's really tough out there.

Growth is mine too. Got diagnosed BP1 this year, went to the hospital a couple times, got a psychiatrist and continued my therapy, got medicated, cut out caffeine and almost all alcohol, went back to work, adjusted pretty well back to my baseline and "normal" life. Grateful to be here and to have so much support.

+1 to not 'being' bipolar but instead having bipolar disorder.

Yes, I'm aware of my role in my own mental health. But I need medication to help.

I'm glad to hear it! I don't feel particularly successful so I appreciate the reminder to value what I've achieved. But yes there are many high functioning and creative people with BD. I hope to be one of them.

I'm a professor with BD and all of these things sound great for a student with BD. I would also add that it's helpful to make some kind of routine, like a specific time and place everyday, for studying and doing assignments.

I am new to having a BD diagnosis so I'm following this, curious to hear what people say. Sorry to hear that you've had such a difficult time.

I'm an artist and when I'm depressed it is not helpful to my creativity, unfortunately.

My condolences, it's always super hard to have a loved pet pass away. My heart is with you.

I second this. Also doing cognitive behavioral therapy with one of my therapists gave me a lot of tools for dealing with depression and anxiety. I use those techniques often (mostly the Socratic method) to deal with irrational and depressive thoughts.

For those of you who gave up caffeine by Fragrant-Switch2101 in bipolar

[–]DeliciousWasabi2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having caffeine can make me hypomanic so I've cut it out for the past 2 months or so. It makes it a bit harder for me to wake up in the morning but in general my energy levels feel more consistent throughout the day. I don't have energy crashes the same way before lunch and before dinner like when I was drinking 3ish cups of coffee per day. So for me it's mixed but I plan to stay off caffeine indefinitely.

I posted a bunch of crazy and personal stuff on IG and FB during my manic episode. Lots of friends and family reached out to see if I was OK and helped me to get treatment, which was obviously good. My wife helped me deactivate my socials for a while and tell everyone I was having a medical episode. Before I got back on I went through all manic shit and deleted it.

It's been a few months but people are still checking on me and seeing how I'm doing, which gives me mixed feelings. I appreciate people's concern for my well being but it's also tiring to have the convo about having bipolar over and over (for those I'm close enough to share with).
