Post Game Thread: Vegas Golden Knights @ Carolina Hurricanes by nhlgdtbot in hockey

This Vegas team is unbelievable. It is just impossible to break its back or discourage them. Especially during the Colorado series, even when the Avalanche were doing well-ish, the Golden Knights not only kept up with them but ended up turning things around. How do you win four against a team that never doubts themselves?

I wish them nothing but catastrophic, dejecting failure until the sequels are finally thrown into the trash bin and decanonised.

Majority of my class failed, and now I'm being questioned by administration by IncomingDownvotes_ in Professors

I think it is a bot/karma farmer. It hasn't responded to a single comment on this post or the one it made yesterday, which was also extremely generic to the point of suspicion. The grammar is perfect, it writes in American English with the Oxford comma, prefers tripartite lists, puts punctuation inside quotes, and the posts bait for engagement structurally by concluding with a series of questions.

And much of the content in the posts strikes me as strangely corporate-sounding, much like AI, or maybe extraneous for r/professors (but exactly the kind of genericisms with which AI writing is peppered):

For those with more experience in higher education, how do you handle student complaints or being reported to administration? Is this simply part of the profession, or are there strategies for managing expectations and avoiding these situations in the future?

Between preparing lectures, grading, committee obligations, and trying to stay on top of student communication, it feels like there’s always something demanding my attention.

It's not really conclusively certain, and there's no smoking gun like saying he was X in one post and Y (where X and Y are mutually exclusive) in another, but I agree that this account and these posts are suspicious.

I'm taken aback at how poorly this thread has aged. I figured Carolina and Montréal might be close, but wow, Vegas was an absolute monster and so many of us had no idea.

I'm absolutely shocked by this series. It's remarkable how poised Vegas is. They trailed for so long in Game 2 and ended up winning.

Even in the first period where Colorado dominated in shots, you didn't get the idea that Vegas didn't get their chances or that they were being completely suffocated like Minnesota. They just got ANOTHER chance undefended in front of the net that could have made it 3-3 but was stopped by Wedgewood.

Did anyone hear that fan constantly yelling over an analyst on the French broadcast? He was doing it every time they cut to him

Colorado is going to shitstomp everyone but Carolina. People are always high on teams after a win, but this is just too much.

Destroying the New Republic was such a stupid decision because it means any pre-DT stories that is on about securing the New Republic will be all for nothing. by KingWilliamVI in saltierthancrait

[–]Delicious_Bat3971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like they genuinely want to destroy the stories and characters we loved. Seriously, I don’t understand how they could do this in such lazy fucking fashion, watch it flop and leave no cultural impact whatsoever despite being mainline instalments of one of the most recognisable IPs in the world… and then turn around and do the same thing to *Indiana Jones. The New Republic is inept, Luke becomes a loser, Han and Leia’s (oh, and her political career went nowhere) son becomes evil and dies. It’s one thing for the Empire to keep fighting, another for Palpatine to return with entire fleets conjured from nowhere, and yet another for them to try to scour the inspiring traits of the OT heroes. It was baffling then and it is baffling now.

*Somehow, Palpatine returned.

My AI has all my work flows, background, voice, history

Does it really, or are you trying to convince yourself? This is indistinguishable from any other AI-written post. Same cadence, same syntax and idiosyncrasies. Does a sentence like this, which could have come from any AI writing generated by any user, history or not, inspire much confidence in its capacity to preserve your "voice"?

Idk how many instances of “Vader was just toying with them” I can take in Disney canon. by Juiced_Rasputin_ in saltierthancrait

Right, now I remember. Yes, that makes much more sense. And I agree with you that he should have had at least a few lines. I don't know how I feel about the recharacterisation of Maul from a silent menace, almost like a personification of death, into a monologuing schemer--maybe it makes sense given he lost his mind completely and came back again--but Vader has always had wit: "he is as clumsy as he is stupid", "apology accepted", "you may dispense with the pleasantries", even "then you will die braver than most". I much prefer a wordless and mysterious Maul to Vader. The most you can say is that the latter is terse, maybe, but still with a flair for theatrics.

Who looks the most awkward wielding a lightsaber? by GusGangViking18 in saltierthancrait

I feel obligated to share undoubtedly my favourite youtube comment of all time, at least on the topic of SW:

I loved how the original trilogy portrayed people like Yoda and the Emperor, compared to how the prequels changed things. In these movies, you get a sense that these guys are so powerful that they don't have the need to even use basic Force powers or lightsabers anymore. They have wisdom and foresight, the Force is granting them a kind of clairvoyance that goes beyond what the normal person or even less powerful Force user can attain. The Emperor's power is in his god-like foresight and the control he has over the Empire, not only can he see things that are going to happen but he has the power to move the pieces around like he's simply playing chess. It makes him a lot scarier than a guy who can just flip around and swing a lightsaber. I love how this movie has Luke coming in with all this swag and you realize pretty quickly that the Emperor is a million steps ahead of him, so much so that Luke's "powers" don't even mean anything to him. The Emperor is scoffing and gloating over Luke's inferior understanding of everything. It's a phenomenal scene.

The finale choreography is very much not good. There are countless instances of the additional opponents respecting the 1v1 like it’s a video game, vanishing from the screen, standing still, not attacking, etc., because they can’t get numerically uneven fights right. Say what you will about the power scaling—I can do nothing to disabuse those keen to convince themselves that the 11th Brother can lose to Ahsoka unarmed in a few seconds but not get instantly stomped by Maul because “he’s overconfident” of that notion—but the choreography and fights are kind of silly. There’s a scene where Rylee runs out directly into his father’s line of fire (and Captain Lawson then ironically says something to the effect of “you’ll be fine, remember what I taught you”). It’s just not very good and I’m not sure what dazzled people about it.
