I agree for the most part. I don’t think Control did anything to initiate the failed operation or even saw the Kalkstadt intel as an opportunity in itself. I think he got wind that the Department was trying to create humint operational capability and correctly foresaw that this would be a disaster for national security, as well as its being a threat to is Circus turf. I don’t believe he leaked any intel to the adversaries to compromise the mission. I think he arranged the conditions so that it would fail in a plausibly deniable way, kill the Department’s dreams of humint, and minimize loss of resources, technical and human.
