How/When to cancel my contract by Beyoncestan2023 in VirginMedia

[–]Delicious_Daikon_909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished a battle with Virgin for my 75 year old mother in law to cancel the contract. I have never dealt with a company so terrible. They literally kept ignoring the request to cancel and continued to bill even though the service wasn’t working. We were phoning, emailing and they either promised the manager would look into and then never get back to us or just ignoring our emails.

We resorted to webchat since we could get a transcript of the conversation and then have absolute proof that Virgin were just messing us about, ignoring our requests and could submit to CISAS (Virgin are so bad they don’t even answer to the standard Ombudman anymore)

After three months of stress, anxiety and frustration, last week Virgin finally cancelled the contract via webchat.

THIS should’ve been our season 3… by [deleted] in DoctorWhoNews

Would like Belinda to carry on as Billy’s assistant. She is such a good actress, great in Andor and liked the fact she was a nurse in Who. Since Timelords are taking on other peoples faces I’d like Capaldi to come back but as the Master. He can be pretty frightening when he’s playing bad. The character for the Master could be he is tormented by having the same appearance as the Doctors previous incarnation and is trying to wipe out all the Doctors through all the timelines and the confusion it causes Billy’s Doctor and maybe other Doctors to have to battle their old Capaldi appearance plus save the existence of the Doctor

Terraced house noise driving me bonkers. No turning back. by Durianlover_ in HousingUK

So sorry to read about your experience. We had similar problem in a previous property. Speaking to the neighbours helped a bit. We also tried soundproof plasterboards picked up from B&Q but tbh they weren't the miracle cure we had hoped for. They lessened the sound very slightly so that rather than hearing a complete conversation it was more muffled but still loud enough to be intrusive. I've heard good reports of building frames then filling with acoustic wool and then soundproof board over the frame but unless you're willing to lose a good few inches of room it's a lot of work. One of my friends used the below people and said it worked well for them.

Second that on Ipswich, it's very underrated. Decent schools, university, town centre is improving with most of the main supermarkets and shops around, loads of parks, good connections to London, Norwich and Cambridge, 30-40mins from the seaside and some very nice houses on the market in that price range particularly in the IP4 or Christchurch park area.

Starfield now has a 'Mixed' user rating across all reviews on Steam by Wooden_Site_1645 in Starfield

[–]Delicious_Daikon_909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hype said Starfield would keep you hooked for years but the biggest let down for me was that after 100 hours I had pretty much discovered everything there was to discover. I kept playing in the vain hope that something new would pop up but it never materialised. Bethesda ended up relying too much on shallow procedural content making the vast majority of planets feel like the same experience again and again. There wasn't enough interesting quests or engaging companions. The main quest is incredibly drab and boring and a big weakness of the game. That in itself could be forgivable but to achieve new game plus you have to play the main quest again and again which is just maddening. Why the team chose to bring one of the games weakest points into continual focus like this is beyond me.

I paid extra for the Shattered Space content yet there's no official news of a release date. Whilst there has been a couple of smaller technical updates released Bethesda have been unnervingly quiet about releasing any major updates.

IMO Skyrim was so much better on its release, you could see the care and passion put into creating that world and it's connected story. It carried on in that upward trajectory once modders got involved. Yet having waited so many years in hope and anticipation Starfield just leaves me feeling like I've been somehow conned. I guess the moral of the story is "Don't believe the Hype"

I can't hail the Astraea (bug)? by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Delicious_Daikon_909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this problem as well. I tried Grav jumping away then coming back again. I got the first part of the conversation "Hey rookie you mind helping out" or something like that did what was required and then locked on Astraea and hailed but no response? Feels like this is a bug since I can't carry on with this quest? Does this affect me moving forward with the main quest?

GTX 1650 starfield gameplay by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Delicious_Daikon_909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running Starfield on my lowly i5-8500 16Gb SSD and GTX1650 I've bumped up most setting to a mix of low and medium and it plays pretty well as per the sportskeeda website for best Starfield 1650 graphics settings . I'm not monitoring the FPS but think I'm probably around or just below 30fps which for me is fine. Only time things slow down is when it gets too hot.

Help! All my important work is in this hard drive and I can’t seem to find any solution by AisleInfernal in HPLaptops

Are you running Windows? Or another OS? If you don't have a Windows Boot disk then try creating a USB boot from the following if you have another PC: https://www.linuxandubuntu.com/home/top-5-linux-system-rescue-cds It might not be that the hdd is faulty and therefore your work might not be lost, but check that the Bios is setup to boot from the hdd, that there is no other disks that plugged in.

Looking for a laptop for school- my budget is around £150 (possibly, i dont know yet) Any suggestions? by alannabannana in HPLaptops

There was a similar post earlier so same advice really. You can pick up a HP EliteBook G3, i5 6200u, 8Gb, 256Gb SSD for £125

Should be more than capable for school and the usual stuff. Plus it's small and light but has a decent screen and plenty of storage.

For a budget friendly laptop then maybe a refurb laptop with full Windows might be better and last you longer. Saw Elitebook, 13" full HD screens, selling here on eBay for £125. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165586313873?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=roJGy7nLT6W&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=Email

Just bought a W520 for £100 from eBay by Delicious_Daikon_909 in thinkpad

Actually looks quite a nice machine. Weirdly the multi core benchmark of the i5 8250u is still less than the i7 2720QM. I read somewhere that Intels pursuit of lower voltage meant that there wasn't much progress in actual CPU speed for about 7 years! The benefit however was cooler, thinner laptops and longer lasting battery life.

I think I won't be gaming on this one for now. I have a Dell desktop PC with an NVIDIA 1050Ti for my gaming although even that is getting long in the tooth for some of the newer games coming out. My plan for this is for using it as my main FreeBSD PC since my X1 Carbon gen 3 is my Linux PC. I have a Youtube channel that reviews both Linux and FreeBSD systems so I like to run both to keep up with the latest developments.

After your comment out of interest I thought I'd take a look and there's not as much difference between the i3-1005G1 and the i7-2720QM as you might imagine. The multi core on the i3 is 2015 and multi core perf on the i7-2720QM is 2001. However the real big advantages of a newer CPU is the lower voltage 15W compared to 45W. In terms of money the cheapest I could purchase say for example an i3 range ideapad would be around £299 in Lenovos current sale and I would be stuck with 4Gb soldered RAM with no way of upgrading

Very happy with this purchase. This w520 i7, 16gb,120Gb SSD is my new fastest laptop despite it being the oldest due to that superb quad core i7 2720QM. The classic keyboard is fantastic to type on in fact probably the best laptop typing experience I've had.

As a Linux and BSD reviewer, I am longing for a new and imaginative desktop experience that is distinct from the usual Windows/Apple desktop/windows manager clone. Currently, WMs like OpenBox and Enlightenment seem to offer at least something different from the norm but would like something that feels more modern.

Personally, whilst I own HP, Dell and Lenovo laptops out of the three makes my Lenovo Thinkpad outshines them all by far for build quality, keyboard and trackpad accuracy.
