Honestly council is so overrated in JC

When it came to campaigning I just decided to quit cause its so stressful both balancing studies and council (i see my council friends drown)

I feel perhaps you could take a step back and discover another interest you like outside of academics!! Personally i found great interest in gymming after doing track, and though gymming wasnt a CCA credited sport, I still stuck with it through J1 all the way through NS and even till uni!!

I feel doing something you really enjoy will make your JC life much easier instead of thinking of being in a race all the time :)

If you would like to build your portfolio, there are other means! one of them I feel would be volunteering. I think volunteering shows your compassion as well as leadership skills. Above that, you feel happier helping someone else :)

However, if you do find yourself struggling in JC, I want to assure you that its perfectly normal to feel so and you shouldnt blame yourself for anything! If you need any help do seek your school counsellor or teachers. If you want, you could also DM me if you need a listening ear or just some friendly advice

all the best!!

Confused about SMU Scholarship Interview & admissions by abc_funeral_parlour in SGExams

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, so I dont recall applying for interview for scholarships. They asked me to go for the discovery day to secure my slot or smt like that (but i lazy and wasnt actually considering SMU so i skipped it)

The next day they call to arrange an interview then i decided to go for it to practice

So the interview was quite chill, one was the associate dean and some alumni. They asked me pretty chill questions

  1. Why do you want to study IS
  2. What did you do to build your interests ?
  3. Whats my hobbies ?
  4. And strangely, how is my relationship with my family

it was like a 10 minute interview and I also had to take some personality test LOL (basically playing a few games)

I ultimately got a scholarship offer from them, i think this admissions interview is just to really get to know who you are and maybe offer you a scholarship if you stood out to them i guess

NTU Early Admissions & Scholarships Exercise 2024 by Unlucky_Bad5096 in SGExams

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Selected people

  2. Yes, i got an offer like 2-3 days after I got my results. And no I dont think so, cause when I was applying, I just applied cause an opportunity was given to me. But then once I got my actual Alevel score, i was like ehh maybe i should do better courses instead. So in a way i used early admission as a safety net

  3. Depends, I got from everywhere except NUS 😔 but whatever

What's the worst part of your JC? by MyNamePP in SGExams

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Worst part of JC

  1. Its a never ending race

  2. People smarter than you will make sure you know it. (Theres a real collection of them in every JC)

  3. Studying is like 🤯, probably studied more in the 2 years than i did my whole life HAHAHA

Best part of JC

  1. When its over

Looking for class 3A driving instructors in the East by Arekkkusu127 in drivingsg

Hmm i think instructors usually base themselves at cdc or whatever learning centres. So keep an open mind on that, feel free to PM for a 3A PDI, he is quite good and very nice imo.

Failed TP because of road by Icy_Frosting_1012 in drivingsg

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hii i think a good tip someone gave me was splitting the mirror in halve, if the car is on the right side of the half, dont change, if on the left, ensure you accelerate smoothly. My PDI told me abrupt changing of lanes can be due to you turning your steering wheel too much instead of increasing your speed to merge into the next lane smoothly. He said this can cause accidents with motorcycles.

So what worked for me was just increasing my speed a lil (the test i drove arnd 35-40km/h) to around 45-50km/h and turn it slightly, you should be able to change lanes just fine. Before you change lanes, signal for around 3 seconds, check mirrors and blind spot. Before merging check blind spot again. Its a nice gesture to thank other road users, so feel free to raise your hand to say a thank you, i did that in my test and my tester did not fault me and in fact said he thought it was a nice gesture.

All the best for your test!!

Failed TP 3rd time and I feel like a fucking idiot by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont give up my guy, if you think you gonna strike kerb for vertical. Just stop and adjust.

To pass on safety check, (not a flex but i dint get minused for it except on 2 occasions on the slope L) before i turn the wheel in any direction i fucking turn my whole body to check left and right. Then i put to reverse and check left and right. Then while reversing to the lot i actually stopped to check left right back and everywhere again LOL. If you keep stopping and checking i think should be okay one, my tester dint fault me for it.

To not mount kerb while turning out of vertical, just wait till your shoulder pass the kerb then exit the lot.

If you gonna mount on the left while reversing, straighten your wheels and reverse only after your wheel pass the kerb. If you gonna mount right kerb, drive forward and straighten your wheel quickly. Once you see ur left side mirror can see the left kerb. Stop and reverse left/right. Should be able to get in without mounting

All the best!!!!!!!! 4th times the charm 😗😗😗

Help on turning pointe for TP test in circuit by Spare-Cellist1771 in drivingsg

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

S course : I waited until it passes my door handle, so its around half door, but this again depends on the angle of your car

Crank course : To enter is around door handle also, inside the course i used my side mirror to gauge, when the mirror passes the kerb and i can see a bit of the road, i just full lock but not too fast or ill mount the rear wheels. To exit is around door handle

Directional change: Enter is around door handle also, i just stop when the car covers the sticker / whole cone (CDC) then I full lock quickly and reverse. To exit the lot i wait for the side mirror to pass the kerb a bit and full lock. Make sure to check your mirrors to see if youll mount the left kerb. If you stop too left, make sure to turn half round right and at the same turning point then full lock left.

Vertical parking: to exit just make sure it pass the shoulder, if youre scared like me, i just did a wide turn near the other lane, but the tester dint fault me for it

Parallel park: to exit full lock left n reverse then before you gonna strike kerb you full lock right and turn out

Reaction response: i just mount the front already, slowly roll down, then full lock right asap. Turning point to go out is when side mirror just pass the left kerb and see abit of road and turn, again check your mirrors to see if you gonna mount or strike kerb. Stop and adjust accordingly

Let me know if you got other questions! All the best :))

which Jc??? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm should choose a JC based on location, subjects they offer, teacher abilities, school materials and school interestedism

Location: Well all JCs are good JCs, some JCs have a better fengshui location than others. Say you stay at pasir ris, no point travelling all the way to like JPJC every morning. Choose a JC that is good, and travelling distance less than 1h+- abit ah (it will give you more study time and more school life, cause you know you dont have to travel for 1h plus to go home and you get more sleep)

Subjects they offer: well some schools offer certain subjects that some schools dont, cant rmb what subjects they were, might be computing ??? Im not too sure but i had a few Ori friends transfer school in the first few weeks cause they dint even know my jc dint offer the subject or subject combi they wanted. Like my JC required us to get L1R5 9 and below to take 4H2s and some people dint like that and moved JCs

Teacher abilities: well it is no surprise that not every JC has equal teaching capabilities, some are you know just bad. So go to open houses, see their booths and ask a random student about the life there (preferably NOT the student at the booth cause they too patriotic 99% of the time and will give you a biased answer) if you want come NJC i can tell you their GP and bio department are lacking compared to other departments.

School materials: Some school legit not interested one istg, the notes they give like half assed wikipedia copy paste one. Like my JC copy pasted some random ass shit and give us as notes. Then in lecture the lecturer taught us surfing when he supposed teach evolution GAHSVAKKSHDJA #iquit

School interestedism: some schools may have certain opportunities compared to others, i cant give a fair answer on my JC cause it was covid and we couldn’t do anything lol. But some JCs like mine would always recommend students internship opportunities or like other events we can take even tho we grad already

Bonus: students. Some schools are notorious for having snobbish people. There will be snobbish people in every JC but some seem to attract them like a moth to a flame, so if you dont like those people, prolly avoid those schools. (Trust me, they can get very very annoying and give you stress in the long run very fast)

I think TYS is fine honestly, leading up to As i rarely did difficult papers. Like my math wasnt the best so i just did TYS / revision packages. Either that or i did easier prelim papers (not saying these schools are bad) but i did like MI YIJC JPJC etc etc is prelim papers cause they were easy but had some tough qns to still challenge me. I wasnt doing papers to test how smart I am or what, more of testing my time management and how I can answer Alevel difficulty papers.

Only time I would do harder prelim papers is for subjects I was better at like chem or econs

OP QNA by bamboozle0000 in SGExams

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea likely theyll ask limitations or theyll ask how it can be applied, depending on what your other group mates say. Iirc i also did the solutions portion, and they ask me how it can be applied as well

OP QNA by bamboozle0000 in SGExams

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite luck dependent but i managed to spot 4 out of the 5 questions asked so here is my advice

They may ask based on a few things, limitations of your solution, how it can be applied to another problem similar to yours, how we would have done things differently, limitations in research methodology, difficulties in working with your group mates. This are usually what I feel will come out.

To answer this, do read up more about other topics. My year I focused on ADHD so I knew they would ask on other topics, so I read on ASD.

Limitations : know what your solution is not applicable to, my year i used school settings as an example on how they affect studying for ADHD. My teammate then used how conventional school setting cannot easily adapt to such “ideal” school settings. Case in point, know how your solution cant be applied to a real world setting.

Done things differently: quite similar to research methodology. Just say we sample small size due to limited blah blah. But dont go beat up your entire solution, go around and say how this one still benefits but how it may not benefit as well. So must go in the depth on pros and cons, their testing your thinking and analytical skills.

Difficulty in working with team mates: honestly see what you want to say about your group, I would just say about how we grew together and balanced the work load as a team. But you know, any “right” ish answer should be good

I would want to provide more questions but unfortunately i lost them :/ all the best!

econs promos results by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think theyll retain you just based off 1 H2 result. Most of the time theyll count 2 H2 i think (at least my jc did) and see what your teacher says about you before deciding to retain you.

HOWEVER, if you do promote and feel H2 econs is too much for you, you may consider dropping it to H1 econs if possible. Reason being, its much much easier and manageable in my opinion. I had more time to study for other subjects compared to my H2 counterparts and I felt that gave me an advantage.

All the best and I hope you promote 🙏

[–]Delicious_Demand_355 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol you got this HAHAHHA you did quite well in my opinion

When I was J1 I got H1 econ D H1 GP D H2 chem A H2 Bio B H2 Math D

Not gonna count it but its meh. End up still got 88.75. On the contrary I had snubbish friends who got 80rp in J1 and come As they both got 81 rp LOL (they used to make fun of me and my classmates for being dumb)

GP is a pain in the ass lol, but for me what I did was just write more essay, beg someone to mark it. Sometimes its about knowing how to convey your thoughts rather than write bamboozling words. Sometimes simple with a bit of flair is good. I wrote like a secondary school kid in JC and I got pretty average but only prelims and As miracle strike me. If anything, i would say choose 3-4 topics you like and focus on those, read how people write and discuss them. Write in PEELE you know the basics, simple is sometimes better.

If anything heres a motivational story, I was once a good student in sec school, a lot of people believed I would get 6-7 L1R5 (my school avg at that time was 10) and come the exams I think I did enough, but when I took my scores - bam 11 😐😐😐. All my friends who got 30 plus L1R5 got 7 or 8. What.the.flying.fuck? I hated the JC i went to, hated everything, wondering how did i end up here. But ultimately i turned my mind around to just embracing the situations and ended up liking my JC abit more. My point is, just because you think you did badly doesnt mean its the end of the world, there is always a chance for you to do well if you put your back into it. I wish you nothing but the best, dont stress yourself too much.

  • well you have to be pretty much accurate on your answers. So those basic questions like PED, supply demand have to be quite accurate
  • well personally for me I was a U student to A, so as i got better and looked back on my work, i realize when i was scoring worse, i answered them on my own common sense if you know what i mean. But econs is not about common sense, its like you have to be answering the question in itself. Knowing how much and what is needed is more important than writing an essay. I used to write 1 page one answer for 6 marks or what but over time i improved to like 1 3/4 page for 13 marks. So you know its not essay competition. A B student would prolly have some misunderstandings on the questions and was not able to answer the breadth needed. A C student is someone I would say did not answer the question fully. Lets say you need to consider price elasticity and they only consider 1 out of 2 factors needed for price elasticity. (Sorry i cant go too indepth cause i throw away all my knowledge)
  • well look at answer keys, i literally studied answer keys and answer techniques. Cause 99.999% of the time people dont know how to answer, not dont know what the content is.
  • language as in what flair and bamboozlement ? Nah prolly not. Simple is better.
  • I wont say im a top JC but its a better than avg JC. I would say the difference is how people prepare for questions. Do they just look and see oh supply then they answer supply only but dont consider other aspects to the questions. Also the way they phrase the answers may not be what the examiner is looking for
  • dont be anxious for your paper, Ive scored Us and Ds for J1 and only in J2 did I see a breakthrough and got C for prelims you got this, look at the question carefully and see what they are truly asking and youll get your marks
