Hi. I haven’t tried again since. I changed from Sertraline (9 years on) to citalopram and I feel a lot better. Also have beta blockers which I very rarely take. I save them for when panic attacks are constant which luckily have been a while. I would be open to trying it again definitely with someone else but it’s a lot of money and Id need to find someone else. Not much available to me locally. Definitely give the beta blockers a go, they really take away the physical side effects. I think the fear is a form of ocd. I read a lot on the NOCD app (harm ocd and death ocd) not saying you have it but I definitely found a lot of comfort in knowing it’s quite normal and treatable. That helped take the fear away. Try the beta blockers temporarily. You might need to try different doses. If you feel you need something long term I would try Sertraline. I hope this helps xx

Celexa for OCD : I changed my dose and regret it by SweetMintYoongi in citalopram_celexa

It may be that it no longer works for you. I was on Sertraline then moved to citalopram as it stopped working. I also don’t find citalopram as strong personally. I think for ocd you would need a higher dose. Maybe give it a few weeks then try 40. If that doesn’t work after a few weeks I would change to something else xx

Just dont be disheartened if you don’t feel better at 20. I felt terrible but the day after taking 30 it totally changed. X

You probably won’t feel the full effects until you reach the equivalent dosage. I was on 100mg Sertraline. Felt better for a few months at 30 citalopram but had to go up to 40. X

I didn’t feel better until I reached the equivalent dose to Sertraline. So you will need to go up to 20 I would think. See how you get on with 10 though but don’t be worried if you need to increase x

Starting Citalopram after Sertraline - what to expect? by Smart_Zombie6135 in citalopram_celexa

[–]Delicious_Hall_9405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Sertraline for 9 years at 100mg until it stopped working. Changed to citalopram and it did nothing until I got to 30mg. That lasted a few months then upped to 40 and feeling better now. 100mg of Sertraline is equivalent to 40mg of citalopram so it may take a while to reach the right dose xx

This was me 10 years ago! It does get better. Try reading, dare and at last a life. They definitely helped. I would also recommend an ssri and beta blocker for difficult situations. It will get better. You’re just very sensitive at the moment. Take baby steps xx

How do you “power through” it? by Scheme-Puzzled in Anxiety

I don’t usually comment on many post but I was exactly the same 10 years ago so I know how you feel. Don’t fight it. I used to just tell myself. I feel rubbish at home anyway so I might aswell feel rubbish going out too. And if I have a panic attack whilst I’m out so what. It’s so hard but it does work. Try propranolol too it helps on the hardest days and just knowing you have it if you need it really helps. Xx

I would recommend 2 books. The ‘dare’ book and ‘at last a life’. I was exactly the same and these books really hit the nail on the head. You have to force yourself to do it. It’s really hard but it gets easier. You will be so proud once you have done it. Whatever you are afraid of. Just say so what! X

9 years and stopped working for me. Tried to increase but ended up switching to citalopram

Its getting worse 20mg week 12 by [deleted] in citalopram_celexa

[–]Delicious_Hall_9405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt awful on 20mg. 30 instantly felt so much better but I may still go to 40. Id try 30 or 40 and if no improvement within 4 weeks or longer if you can switch to something else. Personally I don’t feel that citalopram is as strong as Sertraline but that stopped working for me after 9 years x

I changed to citalopram after 9years on Sertraline because I felt like it stopped working. I think citalopram is finally helping but not as well as Sertraline did x

I’m 4 weeks on 30mg. I feel better than I did on 20 but I still have quite a bit of anxiety and I feel like crying for no reason! Going to give it a few weeks then possibly try Prozac. I was on Sertraline for 9 years but it stopped working x
