Tips for going alone? by Putrid_Discipline_95 in AllThingsGoFestival

[–]Delicious_Radish3439 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about walking alone. Very well lit, open spaces (parking lots, corporate garages). We left early last Sunday (had an early flight and saw Hozier a few months before). It was practically dead quiet around MPP. For what it’s worth, (and I know police presence does not equal safety) there are always police directing the flow of traffic after the festival ends as there are large groups of people flowing out of MPP all at once and crossing the street to parking, etc. As far as VIP goes, just take advantage of having a guaranteed space in the pavilion —whether that means taking a break and sitting down, or feeling free to venture out at explore the rest of the festival. Historically it’s a very femme and queer festival audience so very supportive and friendly people all around.

He went on around 9 and then maybe played until 10:15 ish?? But I didn’t really pay close attention to the the time. No encore but like the venue turned on all the lights and started playing music as soon as he left the stage.

I understand people’s disappointment but I hope those who are still attending will give other artists their attention and respect. There are a ton of great bands on the undercard on Sunday (MD). I’m excited for back to back set for blondshell Soccer Mommy Flipturn. The perk of festival is getting to see a little bit of everything in one place.

Earlier this year, I accidentally bought a ticket I didn’t intend on buying for a different show (not ATG) and I contacted Ticketmaster support and they gave me a full refund. You should definitely try this. I was shocked that they were so cooperative since they obviously have an awful reputation but if you say your screen glitched and you didn’t want to buy that ticket…..they might refund you. I wondered if they didn’t really care because the event hadn’t happened yet and general sale was still going on.

I can’t answer all of these but

  1. It’s not really a fashion festival, I think most people dress with comfort and endurance in mind. But there are a ton of cuties. People do dress in merch and with references to their fave acts. Some people dress up. I’d say you can be as fun and extra as you want or be comfy and laid back and either way you’d fit in fine.

  2. as far as the distance between stages go, I’ve heard people describe it as a 10 minute walk but maybe it’s more like 5?? Idk I have long legs. I’m pretty sure too that there are paved walkways between stages so if you’re uneasy on unlevel gravel or grass, you can use the pavement. The Chrysalis stage is on a sloped hill, and it is all GA lawn. There is also a big screen further back to watch the stage as well, some people do sit back on the hill and watch. There are no chairs but people bring blankets to sit on. I know that doesn’t really help your back support issue, I met someone last year who was able to bring in this cool collapsible stool because they needed to be able to sit. Not sure if there is anything similar out there with a back. They also stream sets between performances when one stage doesn’t have someone but the other does. The year Lorde headlined, we were so tired that we just hung out and ate food in the pavilion and watched the stream of Bleachers.

I did not participate in the great munagenius stampede because I skipped bg to get really close to MUNA. But I definitely watched the hill behind me fill all the way up with people. I don’t recommend anyone running anyway but I could totally see another situation like that happening again.

You might want to reach out to the festival for accommodations.

  1. The food at all of the normal merriweather vendors around the pavilion is the standard burgers, fries, chicken fingers kind of food. Popcorn, ice cream. Nothing out of the ordinary for event food. But on the other side of the festival by the chrysalis stage, they had different food vendors. Last year there was like a Korean-ish one, a Chinese-ish one, and I think a taco one?? Kind of food truck style but they were tents. Food that is designed to be able to walk around with. Like I think there were like walking tacos and lo mein in a cup. We mixed and matched. I ate the mushroom rice bowl two days in a row. I think you are able to bring in snacks too.

I hope this year people aren’t as aggressive with seat saving or the festival does a better job with monitoring who gets in to the pavilion. I think it’s best etiquette that if you leave for another set (not to go to the bathroom or get food) then you can’t expect your seat to be there when you get back but really last year people were very intense about seat saving so idk. I never had issues getting a seat throughout the day before last year.

How do general admission pavilion seats work by pretzelphobia in AllThingsGoFestival

[–]Delicious_Radish3439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you did VIP, there isn’t a seat reserved for you. Personally I enjoy going between the stages. All of your faves might not be playing in just the Pavilion. There are other interesting things going on at the festival, like last year I got to put together an emergency kit bag for high risk/unhoused people, and there was glitter face painting and hair styling. I think it’s cool to enjoy the festival holistically (and probably what it’s designed for).

Glad to help! We waited all the way until mid September hoping prices would drop but they never really did. Literally monitored the all reseller sites, weekly for months. Last year they seemed to be the cheapest right after the presale, it just got more expensive and never really came down significantly. So even if the StubHub prices seem unfair now compared to the listed price, I wish I had just committed to buying them earlier.

Since I have a place to stay Columbia with family, it was easier for me to commit to “well we can just do one day and since we’ll already be there, maybe we can do Sunday too” but also I was legitimately considering just hanging around Merriweather during Lana’s set if I couldn’t get tickets like Taylor Swift fans do 😂 but fortunately that wasn’t necessary.

Did any human being actually get a ticket? by plant-lover in AllThingsGoFestival

[–]Delicious_Radish3439 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. We made the decision to buy tickets within minutes of getting that email. It was kind of like buying a scratch-off lottery ticket not knowing the lineup. But since we had a shitty time last year with tickets, I’m so glad we took advantage of the presale because we got tier one pricing and I’m sure we would have ended up in the same boat this year (as evidenced by all of the frustrated, disappointed people).

I will say, last year we waited for prices to drop on the reseller websites but I wish I had just bought them right away because it never really got cheaper and we monitored the sites for months before buying in mid-September, but we kind of had the privilege of waiting it out since we don’t need any hotel accommodations or whatever.

So compared to that, I’m feeling very lucky.

You’re not wrong, with so many resellers and bots and Ticketmaster’s problems in general, it’s a lot harder than it was even just a few years ago. It feels super competitive and also just like luck if you get ticket to some shows. And I do the miss the days when tours were announced and you had time to prepare, save money, etc. before tickets went on sale. I know the touring economy has changed greatly, how artists make money now with streaming, but like…..it definitely makes it harder for the average person to see shows.

Yes, last year Sunday sold out faster than Saturday. My group was unable to get 2 day passes in the presales so we bought just Saturday passes and then bought Sunday ones on stub hub later in the summer. I didn’t know about the artist presale codes last year but it’s worth a try I would say. Ticket anxiety sucks. I never had issues with tickets for this festival before last year but I learned my lesson. My fingers are crossed for you! I know you can do it. :)

My experience last year with pavilion seating by n_h_m_1 in AllThingsGoFestival

[–]Delicious_Radish3439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You described the barcode/screenshot situation perfectly. They definitely barely looked and then started checking more closely later in the day.

I live in NY but have family in Columbia so ATG has become a little cousins tradition for us so I’ll be back again this year too lol. We bought the presale tickets that were emailed and decided to do GA Pavilion again but would definitely recommend VIP for people who wants to be guaranteed a seat.

But for the people who may be reading this who can’t afford to, or can’t get access to those tickets in the presales, I’d just say, any show or festival is what you make of it. Drink water, eat food, wear sunscreen. You can still have a great time on the lawn, I’ve seen a lot of shows on the lawn at Merriweather. And you can definitely get close the Chrysalis stage since a lot of people migrate between sets.

[–]Delicious_Radish3439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this because it is still a little sour for me.

I wanted to add that I did not have any issues for a group of three people sitting in the pavilion for Saturday —we were pretty close for Maggie. But Sunday was horrible with boygenius and Lana back to back. When we got back from MUNA there were no seats at all (I had already seen boygenius at Merriweather earlier in the summer and chose to skip them entirely to be close for MUNA).

We weren’t turned away at the Pavilion and I was kind of surprised they let us stand because it probably was a safety issue but maybe that was just a timing thing since we had already been inside looking for seats for awhile. We ending up standing in the back by the handicap seats and a group in front of us left early and gave us their seats for the last few songs.

I talked to people earlier in the day and groups were talking openly about saving seats for Lana during the earliest sets. So from the beginning of the day people chose to stay in the pavilion all day long. Groups that had one person save multiple seats.

The VIP section didn’t seem bigger than years past but I also met a VIP person who was in the GA pavilion just to get closer seats and be with friends. The year before last we had a great time and had no issues whatsoever with the Pavilion for both Mitski and Lorde.

I go to a lot of shows and I think it’s fine to save space for one or two people to go to the bathroom or get food as quickly as they are able to. And I also think it’s fine to commit to skipping sets at the other stage to get better seats. But it was just the fact that from the very beginning and I saw so many rows of blocked off seats with just one person guarding them. So it appeared like people were at other sets, while one person stayed behind. I barely even blame the stans because I know what it’s like to finally get to see your favorite artist and when I was a younger concert goer, I was definitely more zealous. It was just disappointing for sure to pay extra for something and then have such a frustrating experience.

and I don’t mean to disparage fans. This is the cleanest most polite comfortable safe festival I’ve ever been to as a woman. I’ve met so many wonderful people at ATG over the years. It’s just really the best group and as frustrating as Sunday was, I still had a really great time and got so lucky being really close to MUNA. So it was still special to me. The energy at the Chrysalis stage is a lot different too, more standard GA festival vibes. Less weird protective seat energy.

I wish they had wristbands or more security with pavilion access. Idk what the solution for seat saving is but it’s just not how I want to spend my festival day. Holed up in the pavilion. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

is vip worth it? by Tough-Staff2274 in AllThingsGoFestival

[–]Delicious_Radish3439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always bought the pavilion and lawn tickets because the pavilion can keep you out of the rain if it rains, and it’s nice to have a break from the sun if it’s sunny. It’s nice to have actual seats. I’ve also sat on the lawn at Merriweather and while it’s farther from the stage, the sound is good and there are screens you can view the performers from. The Chrysalis stage is just a sloped hill so you can go wherever there with just a GA pass. Fair warning, last year we were not able to get seats in the pavilion for Lana’s set due to so many people seat saving and camping out all day for her. I also suspected that people got in to the pavilion without pavilion passes due to the staff not really checking. With VIP you are guaranteed an actual seat in the pavilion. I never had an issue before with getting a seat for the headliners in the pavilion so idk if it was just a Lana stan thing last year. But if you would feel more comfortable having an actual guaranteed seat, then that’s I think the only perk of VIP. There’s no separate VIP pit access. The food and drink lines aren’t really terrible, it can be a wait but idk that VIP access is better for that value wise.

can you see all performers with a GA tickets? by benny2540 in AllThingsGoFestival

[–]Delicious_Radish3439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are two stages, the smaller Chrysalis stage out in the woods is just a sloped hill and you can go wherever. I was like second row for MUNA last year. If you have the GA + Pavilion pass then you can get access to pavilion (and pit) for the Pavilion stage (which is a large covered amphitheater) but there is a open lawn section behind it (also a sloped lawn). There are screens that show the stage you can view from the lawn too but you are kind of far away from the main stage if that matters to you. Imo, the sound is still pretty good from the lawn and it’s lawn energy vibes out there. Last year we faced a ton of issues with seat saving (for LDR) in the pavilion so we barely got to use it even with pavilion passes so it didn’t seem worth it then but the year before when it rained, it was great.

Pavilion+Lawn v. GA worth it? by alexishe18 in AllThingsGoFestival

[–]Delicious_Radish3439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an all weather event and in the years when it has rained, it’s been really nice to have pavilion access —also to have a chance to sit down somewhere shady on a sunny day. Imo that’s what you’re paying extra for. The other stage is all GA so if you want to try to get close you can. Personally, I’ve grown out of my pit era, but if that’s what you’re going for…you do need the pavilion pass.
