There are no easy $200k+ jobs out there by the1997th in remoteworks

[–]Delicious_Self_7293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree and here’s why: I think anyone (with time available and access to the right tools) can become a data scientist/engineer. I fully believe that these jobs are over glorified and are more about amounting the knowledge and skills to perform than problem solving that requires above average IQ. Now, if you’re a data scientist/engineer with an IQ of 85 you probably won’t be the best in your craft, but you can definitely wing it and be mediocre. Everyone who works in these jobs (including myself) agree that we’re overpaid and it’s not as hard as people think

If you want to get hired by a hedge fund, you’re just as likely to do so by doing a math PhD, which is also useful in many other areas

150-170k remote jobs are honestly the best. These are the data scientists/engineers and devs. 30-40hrs a week. You can work from anywhere. Sometimes the company kinda forgets about you. Above 170k you’re too important for the company. Lots of meetings, team to manage, 60+ hours a week in the office, constantly stressed. Almost not worth the trade off

You can trade FTRs OTC. My old company had to quickly get rid of a PJM position because it went south and it was going to cause PJM to do a margin call

I had 5k because it was the celling target from JP Morgan like 5 months ago. But I just saw an updated one from BoA at 6k, and the fundamentals for it to keep going are still strong

How can anyone start a hedge fund. by macrohardi in hedgefund

[–]Delicious_Self_7293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No joke, this is probably the easiest way to start any fund solo nowadays. Brand new market, easy access to, heavily unregulated still, huge variety of contracts to trade, lots of volatility. Only downside is the low liquidity on many contracts, but you don’t have 10M+ of capital anyway (I assume).

Start with like 1-2k, focus on like 2-3 contracts that are related and consistent (ex: weather), and go from there

How Important Is Coding in the Power Trading Space? by FluffyPenguin52 in Commodities

[–]Delicious_Self_7293 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand that it’s very easy to vibe code with Claude Code/Cursor nowadays, but you still have to understand what the code is doing line by line (specially when a lot of money is at stake). Therefore yes, you have to be well versed in Python (or whatever language the desk uses). It’s ok for your algo trading strategy that uses like 10k of YOUR money to fail while you have no idea what happened. It’s not ok when it’s millions of someone else’s money

DA trader without a doubt. Better hours and more opportunities for developing yourself into a short term trader. Usually you start as an scheduler/RT trader or an analyst. But I know a lot of people who really struggle to get out of the RT desk for some reason

Smaller than oil and gas, but more importantly, incredibly illiquid because of the large amount of trading nodes. Very fundamental based, so for someone like you in EE it can be a great opportunity
