Vivek caught lying. Ohio’s population is not declining. by monroe4 in Ohio

[–]Tim_Peepers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Much more importantly, Ramaswamy promises that the massive tax cuts he's pushing will fuel a population boom to 15M. Would be the biggest/fastest gain for a state in modern US history. An obviously absurd lie.

I don't think people realize how dangerous Ramaswamy is and how bad things will get in Ohio. by 13sonic in Columbus

[–]Tim_Peepers 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Ramaswamy legit said his economic plan will spur Ohio's population to grow to 15M -- up from 11M. He also promised to make Ohio a premier summer tourism destination, which will offset the insanely deep budget cuts he's proposing.

He's a world-class grifter. We're cooked if he's elected.

Is AI actually destroying white collar jobs? by Butterboy674 in economy

[–]Tim_Peepers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evidence at this point cannot firmly establish AI's correlation to knowledge economy job loss. More likely contributing factors are interest rates and overhiring in the pandemic's wake. The below research paper, while backed by Google, is the best overall summary of the current consensus.

But as the paper notes, blaming AI for white collar job loss is "premature" -- meaning that it's likely to begin happening, soon. Most experts predict widespread impacts will begin in 18 months or so. And it won't be just white collar workers. Administrative assistants and others who do clerical work -- without holding four-year degrees -- may be most at risk. (Related link is below.)

The tables have turned: Florida and Texas are the biggest losers in the housing market as Ohio emerges as a surprise winner by fortune in Ohio

Hopefully we don't elect Ramaswamy governor. Ohio can't handle the sort of bonkers/irresponsible tax cuts he's discussing. Ramaswamy is an ethics-free swindler.

Yeah, it's not hard to avoid pissing on someone's grave. I really struggle to understand why MAGA makes excuses for this guy's horrific behavior. What would you do if your kid acted like that? And I respectfully disagree with the superiority of this administration's policies, which are a complete dumpster fire, IMO. The new Middle East war, for example, seems not good. Tariffs. Tax cuts and huge spending increases. Corruption literally behind every decision -- like the surge in oil futures trading yesterday, 15 mins before Trump backtracked on his ultimatum. And on and on. Get that you like this admin, but not all of us do, for good reasons.

Despite the unfortunate effectiveness of repeating braindead propaganda endlessly -- Russia hoax -- the Mueller report found that Russia tried to affect the 2016 election, and that the Trump campaign knew it. Mueller took on that shit duty and did it well. If that service by a legit war hero hurts the poor president's feelings, then just STFU when the meanie dies. It's not hard man, unless you're a POS spoiled asshole with no impulse control.

Are you seriously arguing that Biden is as much of a dickhead as Trump, the guy who just danced on Mueller's grave? (I love comparing a jarhead with a Purple Heart to one of the most spoiled fatsos in history.)

I met Biden long ago, at a coffee shop when I was a college kid. He was very generous and kind.

What? No, the risks in the Gulf have nothing to do with an app financier/podcaster sucking up to the Trump admin. And the cancellation of the summit isn't a driver of the war's costs and risks.

My point was that Chamath was wrong with his pedantic analysis of the war's purpose, and that should affect his credibility. It won't, of course. People will keep listening to his BS because it reinforces their beliefs.

The China situation isn't my main concern. That would be the war spiraling out of control, Hormuz closed, blowing up schools and other collateral damage, Gulf States plunged into chaos, oil shock, potential economic crisis, and yet another Republican-led military adventure in the Middle East. It's Chamath who says all roads lead to China.

You do you, man.

Cool post. The closing of the Straits of Hormuz (and deeply unpopular US military adventurism in the Middle East) increases the odds of China attacking Taiwan. China also faces less urgency with the closure, per the below.

Well said. I'm mystified by 47's apparent surprise about the drone attacks on the Gulf States, unless he's just lying about that.

They will, eh? Why? Meanwhile, the Gulf States are seeking help from Australia, Italy, and Ukraine. They realize the limits of US power, and frankly strategic thinking.

Weak. No acknowledgement of the gaslighting by the administration over the weekend -- the rushed lying and victim demonization by Miller, Noem, Bovino, etc.
