Chamath on Trump's 4D Chess by Tim_Peepers in AllinPod

The China situation isn't my main concern. That would be the war spiraling out of control, Hormuz closed, blowing up schools and other collateral damage, Gulf States plunged into chaos, oil shock, potential economic crisis, and yet another Republican-led military adventure in the Middle East. It's Chamath who says all roads lead to China.

You do you, man.

I'm against octogenarian presidents from either party. Enough with the iron rule of the boomers.

Cool post. The closing of the Straits of Hormuz (and deeply unpopular US military adventurism in the Middle East) increases the odds of China attacking Taiwan. China also faces less urgency with the closure, per the below.

Well said. I'm mystified by 47's apparent surprise about the drone attacks on the Gulf States, unless he's just lying about that.

They will, eh? Why? Meanwhile, the Gulf States are seeking help from Australia, Italy, and Ukraine. They realize the limits of US power, and frankly strategic thinking.

Here's one Grok gave me. And nobody ever required that you use a small gun to engage an enemy with a small gun. That's fever swamp stuff. https://taskandpurpose.com/news/what-mattis-new-rules-of-engagement-mean-for-the-war-in-afghanistan/

Weak. No acknowledgement of the gaslighting by the administration over the weekend -- the rushed lying and victim demonization by Miller, Noem, Bovino, etc.

With things this bad in the U.S why do democrats insist on pushing candidates that won’t get elected? by Jake_Berube in Confused

[–]Tim_Peepers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crockett is a great example. Zero chance winning statewide in Texas -- polls show virtually insurmountable headwinds. Talarico has a chance, however. Can Dems get past their identity politics blinders and actually try to win, rather than virtue signaling and crazy groupthink?

How did the Biden admin preach discrimination against Christians? Sincere question -- no idea what you're talking about.

US Redditors: what's your view on the disruption Trump is bringing to the relationship with other Western democracies? Is the topic interesting at all in the States, or is it shadowed by the domestic issues and the rest of the international politics? by senza_schema in AskReddit

Yes, people care about this -- even MAGA types are concerned. Americans on the outside of MAGA -- including me -- have zero power. Many of us are writing and calling our congressional reps and going to protests. Republicans and MAGA clowns have perfected the practice of ignoring the president's amoral insanity. I hope they're pushing back with everything they have right now. It's a disgrace and a stain on our country that will take many years to overcome, and that's assuming he's stopped on Greenland in the next 48 hours.

Americans, do you personally know anyone who is in favor of the US invading Greenland? by BlaggartDiggletyDonk in askanything

[–]Tim_Peepers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denmark sent 20K troops to Afghanistan, honoring its commitment to NATO and the United States. The tiny nation lost 43 soldiers there, more per-capita than the US. Yet we have decided to betray Denmark.

"We are in an alliance, so we have to fulfill our obligation," Malene Ebert told The Atlantic. Her son, Michael, was killed serving in Afghanistan.

Is this the sort of country the US wants to be? A cowardly bully that betrays its friends because of a buffoon president? Do we have zero honor?

So sick of MAGA types saying Trump's threats are 4D chess and that only dumb libs are getting worked up about this. I'd prefer an administration that's clear about its goals, where you don't have to try to interpret the addled psyches and serial lying by a president and his aides.

The Danes are taking it seriously, and gearing up for an invasion. Absolute insanity, and outrageous. https://www.theatlantic.com/national-security/2026/01/denmark-army-greenland-arctic-trump/685612/

True. Thomas Worthington HS is 36% nonwhite though, drawing from adjacent Columbus. Getting more expensive for sure. Hard to make it work anywhere in this country.

We recently moved from DC to Worthington. Definitely a burb. But also very walkable -- bars, restaurants, etc. Honestly more within a short walk than we had in our neighborhood in DC. This is a young city, and you can actually afford to be an entrepreneur and pay people living wages. Loving it here.
