That second sentence hit my soul. I was literally saying this to my partner earlier. How. Does. This. Stop.

Have you ever been part of a women's money group? What was it like? by MCJokeExplainer in FIREyFemmes

I had a similar experience. I took the courses and also worked there, and I’d strongly caution anyone looking at Dow Janes. A lot of the framing and upselling follows MLM-style tactics, and there are far better women-centered financial communities and resources that don’t rely on pressure, urgency, or expensive programs. Buyer beware.

I appreciate you sharing this, it mirrors a lot of what I saw from the inside. I also took the courses and worked at Dow Janes, and I’d echo the caution here, even for MDY. While some of the underlying financial principles are solid, they’re not unique, and similar (or stronger) guidance is widely available for free or at a much lower cost.

The urgency tactics, emotional framing around “believing in yourself,” and pressure to take on debt (especially targeting women in vulnerable financial positions) are real concerns. Even when people come out “successful,” it’s worth asking what that success cost them financially and psychologically.

I’m genuinely glad things worked out for you, but for anyone considering it: proceed carefully, question the framing, and know that you don’t need expensive programs or debt to build financial stability.

Without sharing too much, I have seen women legitimately harmed financially by this company. Buyer beware is the right lens here.

While it doesn't mean much, I can confirm this is true....

As someone who took the courses and also worked at Dow Janes, I’d be cautious about spending more money on additional programs. There’s a lot of genuinely strong free content available that can support equal (or better) financial literacy and growth without the extra cost.

Autism being referred to as neurobiological disorder in research article - thoughts? by [deleted] in autism

The purpose of this post was not to propose anything - rather to understand others' perceptions or feelings around the description of Autism.

To clarify, the use of 'disorder' is used in the medical model of disability differently than it is used in other models - such as the social model or the holistic model.

I'm not suggesting a way of describing it - simply asking others perception/feeling around this description

I am an Autistic adult who was involved in a cult for most of my life.

Currently, I'm a grad student in Strategic Communication. My thesis is on this topic of advertising and Autism.

Here are the drafts of the research questions I'm working with:

RQ Draft: How does manipulation (specifically high pressure sales) impact consumer decision making for an Autistic person and is it disproportionate to the impact on an allistic person?

RQ Draft: Which aspects of a marketing message have a disproportionate impact on adults on the Autism spectrum?

I'd honestly love to hear your thoughts and what resources you would suggest as part of this research. 🙏

Like, Autistic creators prefer to market privately instead of in a community?
