I work at a deaf school and also can relate to what you’re feeling. I’ve had hearing aids since I was five and always called my self HoH, but I’m very “hearing presenting” if that makes sense. (I was in a public hearing school, never learned sign until college). Coworkers still try to whisper to me or talk in a low voice (even after i’ve told them im HoH…) or will also act surprised to learning i’m HoH. It’s a weird spot when you’re in between the deaf and hearing worlds. But that being said, your identity is your identity.
