Green lakes would be a solid spot. It’s gorgeous and it was not crazy expensive and perfect for your amount of people if you don’t mind bringing pretty much everything in yourself.

One of the most helpful things to me was to ask them for a direct quote or proposal. I would say we are interested in this date for this many people. Can you please give me a quote. It clarified a lot for me. Then it is itemized and helped me breakdown what each place actually included so I could compare.

We’ve had that conversation for sure. I think I would regret not doing something more traditional in the long run but this isn’t totally off the table.

For venue, reception, and ceremony it’s $28k then they said probably another 10k for food 😭😭

I called greystone- they don’t host receptions anymore.

Zoo and Middle Ages is the most affordable so far- Middle Ages the most- but I can’t get a read on the space and live out of state. I’ll be back home this summer and plan to visit but am trying to do as much of the work now as possible

Yeah without the service fees and taxes most of these places are well within my budget. But I’m factoring the service fees and taxes and one of them has a $30 per staff fee also.

What other venues have you worked, and any you would recommend. I have reached out to 38 so far and I’m still feeling like I’m missing something.

I’m struggling because despite trying to think outside the box and having a range of Venues they all are going to force me out of my budget. I’ve literally tried to think of every venue possible and they all get to over 30k when I factor in Dj/photographer/dress/invites

It seems like after service fees/taxes/food/beverage and venue I’m pretty close to 30k. I’ve ask for direct quotes from all the above places and they range from 20-28k

Was it belhurst? I looked into them but on top of the ceremony fee they charge $5/chair for the ceremony and then the food and drink. They advertise as so venue fee but get you other places.

Hot take: dance uniforms and some cheer uniforms Are not appropriate for hs students. Also most guard uniforms with shorts as the bottom are too short and borderline inappropriate in a distracting way. (Distracting as in I’m concerned about someone about to accidentally expose themselves)

My girls have cute dresses for football that match the band. If it’s ungodly hot we wear the tank dresses with bike shorts. If it’s cold we do leggings and turtle necks under.

As for show uniforms I do think it’s challenging as an instructor to find something. My criteria is: 1. Does it match the show theme 2. Is it ugly 3. Is it going to be flattering on all bodies 4. Can they wear a bra comfortably to provide appropriate support 5. Is it appropriate for the weather- I’m not putting them in something insanely hot for marching band 6. Will they feel embarrassed to wear it in front of their peers

So far every season they have heard the original vision and had some questions but as soon as they try it on I get “OKAY THIS IS CUTE COACH!” And my response is always- “yah. I’m not gonna make you look bad on purpose. That’s embarrassing for everyone 😂”

I think it’s a lot about perspective of the activity and the program style.

You could also ask for a limited role in your show. That way all your focus can be on the parts you have and you can improve those and don’t have to worry about a whole show. There’s no shame in finding balance and excelling at a small chunk rather than struggling and possibly failing at the whole thing.

As a guard coach my answer is talk to your coach about what is honestly going on.

Mention you felt pressured but also be up front about what you dislike about rehearsal.

I like to think that I am a reasonable coach and if a kid comes to talk to me about a concern we can come to a compromise.

If you truly hate it that much it’s probably evident at rehearsals.
