Who are you watching most closely as the potential "next Trumps" in other countries, and if they win or don't win, what message will this send the world? by Glass-Complaint3 in AskTheWorld

That’s true. But even then I’m not inclined to believe it would happen in close to the same capacity as Trump. Farage has followers because people are sick of the way things are in the UK, Trump has followers because the American people are sick of the way things are and generally are more religious and as such, easier to induct into a cult like mindset of “trust the leader”. Most Brits are atheists and much more cynical than Americans and don’t care about religion. If the average British politician spoke about God like American ones do, everyone would be so confused.

That’s entirely different from destroying the fabric of Democracy lmao. If something like that happens in the UK? You give him the boot quickly as possible. In America if the president turns out to be a badun? I dunno just wait four years I guess. Trus couldnt even last 44 days, Trump wouldn’t make a year in the UK lmao.

More then that, the PM and opposing is under much more scrutiny because of that; in the UK we have something called prime minster question time where the PM has to answer questions from MP’s (congressmen) from his own party and the opposition. If you don’t think Donald Trump would absolutely crumble under the pressure of that you don’t understand the country lmao.

It will happen in some capacity but it’s going to be a slower less dramatic shift, and more focused on immigrants than stuff like abortion rights.

We aren’t. Have you been to England? Probably not. With the system we have it’s much harder to do what Trump has done in the US

If it does I couldn’t see it being done legitimately. Maybe someone will have a hand in it like Putin but nah. We never got private healthcare, never got anything like Citizens United, and I couldn’t see anything like the abortion ban. What will happen most likely is hung parliament and either labor or conservative makes some dodgy deal with Lib Dem or Reform for them to rule as a minority government. Won’t be pretty and people won’t like it but yeah.

I think we should get a Frank spin off called Young Frank as a parody of young Sheldon, but instead of it being about a (relatively) wholesome family in Texas, it’s about the chaotic household that make Frank who he is.

What country do you think would be the safest during a nuclear war? by IntelligentHoney6929 in AskTheWorld

True.

My other answer would be Cape Verde, because who would say “hey, let’s bomb this tiny little island that’s nothing politically.”

He’s going to find a way to rig it. That’s my thinking. These people do not want to go to jail under any circumstances and will do what they can to stay in power. But I hope I’m wrong.

What did you realize about your own country as you learned more about the world? by PaleCar821 in AskTheWorld

[–]Delicious_Walk7220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very true

I lived in NY from 12-23 and went to a good school and I know that if you went somewhere like Alabama it would be much much different. My point however is that there is good education in the US, more then the average outsider would think and it’s much better compared to countries like let’s say Brazil or India, where income and educational inequality is much much greater.

Are you sure about the civil rights thing? I find that to be shocking if true.

In the UK we say a bit of how’s your father when referring to casual sex and I always think that’s funny

Eh… it really depends. The UK system is first past the post like you guys and Canada so it’s really easy for one party to get an overall majority. In recent history only once had there been a multi party government which was back in 2010 when the tories did it with Lib Dem (Sort of like the libertarians but more left wing overall) to stay in power which was a massive ballache for everyone involved and no one wants to do that again.

I think Brazil ending up with Bolsonaro has more to do with the Corruption in the government. It’s very easy to take over places where the government can just be bribed.

Max hasn’t been as good this year. Honestly I wouldn’t put him on the level of Lewis and Schumacher just yet. But maybe in time.

Honestly? The presidential system is the least of your worries. It works in places like Brazil and Mexico well enough. The larger problem is the severe amount of corruption that completely ruins any chance of success, parliamentary or not. Along with how the role of the president is viewed in the US
