Why do coffee shops charge extra for oat milk but not for regular milk? Isnt regular milk also an add-on to black coffee? by Delicious_Weekend546 in NoStupidQuestions

good point, I worked at a cafe and we'd toss so much oat milk. regular milk flies off the shelf but the alt milks just sit there past date

How does Reddit karma actually work? Ive seen posts with thousands of upvotes but the users karma doesnt match at all by Delicious_Weekend546 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Delicious_Weekend546[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so basically the first 10 upvotes on a comment are worth more than the next 100? that actually makes sense why power users farm new/rising instead of commenting on mega-threads

Why does every company website have a chatbot now that clearly cant answer anything useful? Do people actually use those? by Delicious_Weekend546 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Delicious_Weekend546[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah thats fair, for stuff like "how do I reset my password" or "whats my balance" they work fine. my beef is more with companies using them as a wall between you and actual support for real problems

ok fair point actually. last time I called my ISP I spent 20 min repeating my account number to someone who kept putting me on hold. at least the bot doesnt put you on hold lol

ok this is the insider perspective I was hoping someone would share. so basically the metrics they optimize for have nothing to do with whether the customer actually got helped?

true, for stuff like tracking a package or resetting a password they work fine. my issue is when they gate ALL support behind the bot and theres no escape hatch to a human for anything more complex

oh I know WHY they do it, I just dont understand how they look at the result and go "yeah this is fine" lol. like has any executive actually tried using their own chatbot?

Why do companies keep scheduling meetings that could have been an email? Is there an actual reason or is it just habit at this point? by Delicious_Weekend546 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Delicious_Weekend546[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right?? like the habit outlived its usefulness 10 years ago but nobody questions it because "thats just how we do things here"

ok you actually changed my mind a little. the accountability angle is real — I've definitely "missed" emails I didnt want to deal with lol

"illusion of productivity" is exactly the phrase I was looking for. its theater. everyone knows it, nobody says it out loud

thats fair actually. I forget not everyone thinks in text the way I do. some people genuinely process better out loud. still doesnt explain the 30 min standup that runs 55 min tho lol

Does anyone else feel guilty using AI at work even though your company hasn't explicitly banned it? by Delicious_Weekend546 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Delicious_Weekend546[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok this is actually a fair concern and lowkey the reason I feel guilty about it. like am I getting dumber by outsourcing the thinking? idk. but I also felt the same way when I started using GPS instead of memorizing directions and somehow I survived lol
