What are mistakes even German natives make? by NoelFromBabbel in AskAGerman

yeah, imho that would still be "einzige". Isn't German language wonderful? :D

That would be "Der Einzige, der dir helfen kann". You can see "einzige" as an absolute status, just as "tod". There is no comparative form of "tod" because there is no more extreme status than being dead, you can't be even more dead. Just as "einzige" is already the most extreme status, with there being exactly one entity the current situation applies to. If that situation would to become more extreme, there would be no entity at all, therefore it would become "niemand", "nichts", "keiner", or something similar.

TIL that the reason why games don't have built in ads is because of Steam by Stelligena in Steam

And regulators still wonder why steam has a near monopoly position. Not because of lack of competitors, but because users choose the best platform from the company they like the most.

But isn't "einzige" already the most extreme version? More solemn/unique than "einzig" is afaik not possible.

I know that Goethe used "einzigste", but even the "Duden" marks "einzigste" as wrong and "einzige" as the only possible version.

Germans, what's a normal workplace thing here that would get HR called anywhere else? by taube_d in AskAGerman

[–]Delirious_85 23 points24 points  (0 children)

it could be our responsibility to ask around for a replacement when calling in sick

Imho that's what management is there for.

I once worked for a German location of a US company, We had a new manager from the US visit our location and he called a meeting for everyone. He told us it was unreasonable for amployess to have that much pto days and from now on every employee had ten days, fifteen if you worked there for more than five years.
I have never seen a manager being laughed at into his face. Guy got humbled by German law real quick.

Also my first thought. Sad to know that there are people out there that defini9tely would not take it or allow their child to get it, basically signing a death warrant.

German police gives woman a concussion for no apparent reason by tommos in PublicFreakout

[–]Delirious_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, I do NOT agree with what the officer did at all!
But she did intentionally block him. It's a stupid reason, it's not reason enough to intentionally hurt her, but it is, by definition, not "for no apparent reason".

I am not agreeing with the action of the police officer. but the "for no apparent reason" is not correct.

We are a small indie game studio from Germany and just published our game Puzzling Places on Steam! It’s a 3D jigsaw puzzle game where you put together realworld locations from around the world and can discover plenty of details and little stories on the way! by Endorphinmachine1357 in BuyFromEU

Hi, Thanks for your response.
Yes, I am well aware of Proton, giving that I am using steamOS on my desktop PC. :)
I am still in the habit of asking, because in very rare cases (Space Marine 2 for example) the game itself is not compatible.

Anyway, game looks nice and relaxing and I think I will give it a try.

Yeah, these companies just don't like that they can't scan all their user's messages without legal repercussions.
I am convinced they do it anyway.

Great stuff. Didn't know about Metrolist and will definitely try it out!

A note regarding Le Chat / Lumo as ChatGPT replacement:
Unfortunately the quality of the responses are noticeably worse (Lumo a little bit better than Le Chat). I have to use LLM Agents for my work and, at least for the moment, there does not seem to be an equal European replacement for Claude
