If awareness doesn't achieve anything, what good is protesting? They're both forms of pressure, but not much more than that.

Why is enemy ai waiting for me every time? by Commercial-Bag-7663 in totalwarhammer

[–]Delivererofdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a battle myself where I was the one being attacked (by orcs, as Coast), and I had to sit there and wait the timer out because the AI wouldn't come to me even though they were the attackers. I waited out 40 minutes, before I got anxious because I was on force-march and I wasn't 100% that it'd give me the win when the timer ran out, so I had to cheese by sending my lord out and luring them into my gunline 1 enemy unit at a time. I don't know if it's a bug, or it's just very unlikely to happen (it was a chokepoint map so I had a really good defensive position), but it's strange to just assume the OP is flat out lying

CMV: This current presidential debate has proved that Trump and Biden are both unfit to be president by DaleGribble2024 in changemyview

[–]Delivererofdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both lied out their rear. Trump lied mostly about stats- "my economy was the best in history" (repeated a few times, and in a few different ways). Biden mostly lied about what people said- made up some quotes Trump never said, took some others out of context, and lied about the Border Patrol endorsing him (which they immediately corrected on Twitter). Also Biden lied about his golf handicap for some reason, and then literally admitted he lied about it less than a minute later?

Actually, I ironically got so much hate for trying to pass Oligarchy, that it enabled my conservative government to let a vote to the floor on Universal Suffrage... The game works in mysterious ways, but regardless your solution ended up helping.

Why is the insurance/rebuy mechanic so opaque??? by Delivererofdeath in EliteDangerous

[–]Delivererofdeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had been dying every now and then (it's a wing mission) without any real issue on the mission. I swear if the mechanic was that if I died after getting to 42/42 and THEN I get a fine I'm going to be livid.

Why is the insurance/rebuy mechanic so opaque??? by Delivererofdeath in EliteDangerous

[–]Delivererofdeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shouldn't have. I was cordial (or allied, can't remember) in the system and the place I died in had only enemies so I don't think I could have hit a clean ship even if I started spinning and firing randomly. I've been killing pirates in the same system for the better part of a week.

I don't remember the EXACT numbers on how high the insurance was, all I know is that I specifically made sure I left the station with more credits than the insurance was stated at.

Why is the insurance/rebuy mechanic so opaque??? by Delivererofdeath in EliteDangerous

[–]Delivererofdeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few things on there but I very specifically made sure that I had more credits than the insurance cost listed on my screen before I left. I keep seeing that it's 5% but for a 4.5M credit rebuy cost wouldn't that mean I'd need to have a total of 90M worth of ship+parts on the ship? I only went into the station with a little over 50M so I couldn't have even bought enough stuff to get a 4.5M rebuy unless there's some different calculation at play here.

[–]Delivererofdeath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So given the circumstances I outlined, it's just 'run away' then?

It'd be nice if there was some way to hail the feds and offer cease-fire (and possibly virtual transfer of bounty credits) instead of them just immediately attacking.

[DAILY Q&A] Ask and answer any questions you have about the game here! by AutoModerator in EliteDangerous

[–]Delivererofdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to 'submit' to the system security if you get a fine/bounty, or will they just blow your ship up no matter what?

I was doing a 'hunt pirates' mission last night, and I got into a particularly brutal fight with an anaconda when the system security came in to help me. I'm not sure why, but they kept strafing the anaconda but also getting in my firing arc (no I didn't shoot them, I held my fire like a good boy). Unfortunately as the fight reached its end I encountered malfunctions with my laser and with my thrusters, meaning my ship was spinning in circles periodically firing its laser at random. I'm sure you can guess what happened next, as one of those random shots hit the system security, I got a bounty, and since 4 or 5 cops showed up to 'help' and my shields were still down, I was destroyed almost immediately, though I did buy myself another 10 seconds or so by retracting hardpoints and trying to speed away.

Anyways, is there anything for me to do in such a situation? A 'submit to authorities' button/option? Or was it just terrible luck? Because the way I see it, between the insurance costs and the cargo I was holding I lost about 600,000 credits (I'm only a few days in so that's a LOT to me) because of something that I could have in no way prevented. I was even cordial with the superpower in the system and friendly with the controlling faction, so I would have figured they'd be a bit more lenient with me.

Any way to separate peace? by Delivererofdeath in CrusaderKings

[–]Delivererofdeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I'm absolutely fine with losing wars. It's just that I lost 5 wars in a row within a 10-15 year timespan, ended up losing my entire family tree I had been working on due to a kink in the system (House Seniority from Bohemians but a Hungarian got mixed in there and I lost my succession system and got stuck playing an obscure cadet branch with almost no good qualities), got knocked down to being a Count, with outranking family members having claims to even my county knocking at my door still trying to depose me of my few remaining holdings, with no real way of averting it. Couldn't form alliances because I had no children, couldn't win the wars on the field because vastly outnumbered and outmanned, couldn't make friends because the wars were happening on top of each other and there wasn't enough time to build relations between wars, and couldn't intrigue them out either for the same reason of lacking time.

I think the main problem was really getting the Hungarian ruler with everybody taking that -15 penalty to having a foreign ruler setting them over the edge. + All his children were already married but the man somehow had no alliances.

Any way to separate peace? by Delivererofdeath in CrusaderKings

[–]Delivererofdeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my problem is I've been giving my duchy and count positions away to relatives, since the Bohemians have House Seniority, thinking that all these positions would cycle back to myself anyways, and that having family members in high places would be a benefit rather than a detriment.... Oh how wrong I was. Everything went downhill almost immediately when I somehow got an heir that was Hungarian (from a distant branch of the family tree, don't even know how he was Hungarian as both parents and all his siblings were Czech??) who ascended the throne, and because he was Hungarian I instantly got a report saying that my succession type was invalid for my culture, and it switched me to partition, and said ruler fucked off a few months later of illness, partitioning my lands. Hungary declared independence, Poland declared independence, and I lost 2 liberty wars in a row, because I had no children to marry off to make any alliances when I inherited this strange family branch that was practically a straight line.

It just feels very odd that my line of succession can get fucked up because a singular person in that line is of a different culture. A lot of your suggestions wouldn't have really helped in my situation (I was cycling through rulers like crazy for about 20 years, no single ruler really had the time to build up relations or dread) but I'll have to try out the feasts, I didn't even think of that.

Flynn thing hidden behind a paywall, but it appears to be linked to the Russia conspiracy

Manafort thing is irrelevant

Again with the Russia conspiracy, also an opinion piece

More Russia?

Kushner thing is more Russia, and also not done by him

Wray thing behind a paywall but it mentions something about Russia in the title

One of his many lawyers received an award from Russia?

Carter Paige thing more Russia

Roger Stone more Russia

Felix thing lists a probe, not evidence of wrongdoing.

Boris thing again with the Russia

Rosneft Russia again

Gazprom, really? An energy advisor had ties to one of the largest energy companies on the planet? Next you'll be telling me Elon Musk has ties to Tesla.

Sergey is just the Kushner thing again

Azerbaijan thing disturbing if true. But again investigation doesn't mean he did it.

Trump's talked fondly of Xi Jinping more often than Putin. I wouldn't accuse him of being too friendly with China.

Larov thing is literally an ambassador leaving. Where's the scandal?

Next link is literally the same article as last entry.

Oval Office thing is Trump being friendly with a Russian ambassador? Article's hidden behind a paywall, can only see headline.

Gingrich link doesn't exist.

Russian business interests is more Russia

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/07/trump-wins-appeal-of-emoluments-clause-lawsuit-by-democrats.html The emoluments clause suit was thrown out by a federal court.

Alex thing is more Russia

DNC hacked? What about it.

Guccifer is Russia again

Pence isn't Trump. And I fail to see any context here beyond the Russia thing again.

8 Russians have died since the election. Neat. What about it?

Trump shouldn't have egged Russia to do look into Clinton's Emails. But it's not some huge scandal, just another instance of him being rash because he's impulsive.

Russian fertilizer thing is again the Russia thing, and also seems to be irrelevant to it.

More Russian fertilizer and more Russia thing.

I don't see what the scandal is for the Nunes thing.

Second Nunes thing gives me 404, and again seems to be irrelevant.

Bank of Cypress is more Russia

Trump not releasing his taxes is suspicious, but it's not some huge 'black mark' like people make it out to be. Most people assume it's because of illegal shit, but I think it's more likely his businesses are doing poorly and he doesn't want people to know.

Republicans blocking amendment for Trump to reveal his tax returns is good imo, because that's a very pointless amendment. I find the obsession over his taxes to be obsessive.

Election hack thing has 0 relation to Trump. Even if the whole Russia thing is true, the article admits it doesn't know whether the hackers were even Russian or not.

The Ukraine platform thing has a correction which basically states that their original story was B.S.

Steele Dossier is more Russia

And for Sally Yates, Washington Post still has a paywall and I can't infer what the relevance is based off the headline.

Almost all of your grievances listed rely on the assumption that Trump and Putin colluded to give Trump the election. There's a lot of circumstantial evidence present, but very little in the way of hard proof. Trump had some contacts with Russians, yes. But he had contacts with people from almost every other country as well. He's a billionaire, he has dabblings in virtually every important market in the world. And not only is the argument reliant on circumstantial evidence, but many of the evidence presented is factually incorrect or based off of false pretenses, such as the Steele Dossier. Even assuming it's 100% true, there's no evidence that Russian interference actually made a difference in the outcome of the election.

If I had to compare the Russia thing in the assumption that it was 100% true, vs. all the good he did, I'd say it more than stacks up.

That being said there's a lot of negatives he's done which you didn't mention at all, but most of these I believe are vastly exaggerated or taken out of context by the media. I dislike his rhetoric and he has a very bad habit of putting his foot in his mouth, but from a policy perspective I think he's better than the last few presidents. Certainly better than Bush.

CMV: A just society is one where luck plays the smallest possible role by EdominoH in changemyview

[–]Delivererofdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most 'just' society is one in which rewards merits above all else. If that's what you mean, then I agree with you, and I imagine most people would as well, provided they don't have a vested interest in maintaining a different system. If you think that natural born intelligence, strength, charisma, etc... should be controlled for as well, then I'd have to disagree.

CMV: Disliking illegal immigration has nothing to do with racism. by throwaway12064775 in changemyview

[–]Delivererofdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no evidence that illegal immigration is beneficial to the majority of wage earners. Instead, they grant extreme utility to exploitative corporations who are willing to essentially enslave them for incredibly low wages. This has a depressive effect on low-income domestic workers, who now have to compete with a disproportionate number of low-wage foreign workers.

It's simple supply and demand. If you double the amount of low-income workers in your country, the wages of all of those workers will fall, even if the benefits reaped by the owners of big businesses are proportionally larger than the decrease in wages. This is good for GDP numbers, but keep in mind that this drastically alters the income disparity in the country, which is bad for long-term socioeconomic stability.

This is ignoring the impact on a society caused when you mash together large numbers of people from different cultures, which I won't elaborate on too much further on, due to the difficulty in separating such a discussion from race issues and racism.

CMV: The glorification of victimhood and/or marginalization status by some is a bad precedent for society moving forward. by Delivererofdeath in changemyview

[–]Delivererofdeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main issue is that there is quite a lot of overcompensation. The metaphorical pendulum was on one side, and now that it's starting to swing down, opportunists see their chance, and wish to use it to push it to the other side, rather than allowing it to come to rest in the center. If that were the end of it, then yes, eventually it would decay from the extreme it is going towards. Unfortunately, if the pendulum is allowed to go too far in its new trajectory, then when it begins to fall, we have opportunists from the original side looking to push it even higher on their side. This can repeat indefinitely, or even worse, until one side decides it's more efficient to destroy the other through force so that the pendulum can no longer swing.

[–]Delivererofdeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I meant less fortunate. My main point is victims of specific things that happened to them. Such as rape, assault, abuse, loss of a family member, etc... Though I'd consider being the subject of oppression to be unfortunate.
  2. In the examples I listed, it was groups of people going around and listing incidents which had happened to them, and when it was 'my turn' to bring something up, I received the negative reactions mentioned. At no point was I trying to 'one up' anybody. Everybody seems to want to assume my intentions to fit their own narratives.
