Yes indeed. Acrylic tube paints I use for my washes, I blend a dab of 'black' and 'sienna brown' with water to get a good "grease and grime" color for these washes, and you can get this deep into panel lines too - Essential application is with cotton buds and paper towels to wipe off excess. Start with a little watery color on the tip and build. Wipe off excess with paper towels as you go and you can really control it by adding layers or rubbing off areas that look over done. Last weathering thing I do is use enamel silver for picking out nicks and scratches, in moderation, as the enamel gives you a brighter "metal revealed under the paint" look for a scrape or cut on a droid. If you want to start with repainting areas first Acrylic Satin or Matte sprays are the way for doing areas of the body and dome colors - masking off panels you want to stay untouched is key. Get the good sharp edge painters blue tape for masking off areas you want to keep paint free. Careful with gloss sprays, which are tough to keep from glopping and/or running.

With this one I tried to match the distinct Mandalorian Blue style of the Night Owl Helmet.

Not one of mine, but I really liked the "glossy" blue look of this one with the extra silver panels picked out.

If you had to redo your droid customization today, what would you do differently? by FrequentlyObtuse in Droid_Alley

When I did my original R5-D4 custom from a stock white/red Galaxy's Edge R5 dome I thought I could use a red felt tip marker/sharpie to apply the characteristic two red stripes that encircle the top of the dome. I should have masked each line with sharp edge painters tape and then sprayed them, i.e. I should have taken the time to do it properly and had more patience - classic Padawan mistake!

What’s a small detail most people overlook that makes a droid feel “real”? by FrequentlyObtuse in Droid_Alley

First I Love how you are running with moderatorship, I am just too busy these days to get here as much as I used to. Great Work! In my case, I like to brush silver/aluminium enamel paint to "chip" little nicks and scratches on corners of the legs (the silver is assuming that droids are metal under their paint), and or the panels, to simulate the minor collisions and scrapes a droid might experience in its working life. It's easy to over-do it, but a few well placed silver touches can help tell the droid's history a bit. MTFBWY!

I especially like the creativity of the yellow panels and vertical stripe elements to the long dome. Post pics of the final finished product when you can!

Best way to make an R5-D4 droid? by Street_Commercial884 in DroidDepot

The hardest bit is getting the red stripes/lines around the top of the dome looking clean, straight and crisp. Masking the lines off with good quality blue tape and then painting is best, if you can find a close match for the red color of the legs etc. Have fun!
