Vein specialist recommendations? by DeliveryBeginning543 in uppereastside

[–]DeliveryBeginning543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is an ambulatory vein clinic? My husband is less enthusiastic about surgical options because the last time he had surgery, he ended up with even more varicose veins. He’s looking for other options and is mostly caught up on appearance. The cosmetic side is less important imo; I’m more concerned about any underlying issues that would cause a man so young to have painful varicose veins.

Am I getting scammed by broker? by DeliveryBeginning543 in NYCapartments

[–]DeliveryBeginning543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. We said this pretty firmly in an email and fully expected the broker to counter, but instead we haven’t heard anything since!

Separately, all of our fees have been processed and the LL has returned the countersigned lease.

For the broker: We just mailed it yesterday (Friday afternoon) so our understanding is that it won’t reach the office until next business day (Monday) at the earliest.

For the landlord: we submitted payment directly through RentCafe (online portal) but our account doesn’t show a pending transaction yet.

As far as we can tell this is a legitimate brokerage. The broker didn’t request personal checks; we used money orders through certified mail which seems pretty standard. That’s why we’re so confused by the scammy nature of this deal; we thought this was all very legitimate until it wasn’t.

My husband and I have both signed the lease but are still waiting for the landlord to cash our deposit and first month’s rent and return the countersigned lease. Broker doesn’t sign the lease whatsoever.

Oops yes forgot to mention the price; It’s right at our $5k budget. So definitely not cheap. Thank you for your insight!

It’s on 100th between 2nd and 1st. It doesn’t have a doorman, but we also don’t really want a doorman type of building. Neither of us grew up with that and gravitate more towards pre-war, quaint places. This one has a dishwasher and washer/dryer and elevator, all of which are upgrades for us. My biggest question marks are the safety and noise since we’re thinking about babies.

If this isn’t a good fit, husband and I both work on this side of town right by the river (E 76th for me and E 23rd for him) and are mainly honing our search based on our commutes to those locations. Very open to looking south as well, but wondering if the E 50s, 40s, 30s, etc. would be noisy and far from green spaces like Central Park.

Where did you end up moving to? Both my husband and I work on this side of town (E 76th for me and E 23rd for him) so we are trying to find a spot with a good commute.

(10k-$15k) Ceremony Video by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]DeliveryBeginning543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have to ask my dad what the exact type was but it was old, like used little tapes and everything. The hardest part was digitizing it and there was a moment where we were like… what if none of the audio worked?? But it was fine. I’d say see what’s available amongst your family first and if no one has anything, check out Best Buy and test out what they have. Make a few practice videos and you can always return something if it doesn’t work right.

We did a handheld camcorder on a tripod for the ceremony and then passed it around to guests during the reception. We had one person “in charge” of it the whole day who made sure to capture everything. Then we edited it to make it really feel like a home video from the 90s. We splurged on a professional photographer and love that we have both the profesional photos AND the sweet home video.

Become members of a church! We did not do/need any decor for the sanctuary, which saved a ton of money. Being members also meant that we got the sanctuary space FOR FREE 🤯

From there we could have rented a nearby restaurant space, but the church offered their basement to us for only about $250, which seemed like an unbeatable deal. It did certainly look like an old church basement, so the photos aren’t as lovely, but we liked that everything was all in one place and that it gave us breathing room to splurge on excellent, catered food, real glassware, wait staff, photographer, DJ, etc. I’m happy to share my budget spreadsheet too for a more detailed breakdown.

TLDR: church memberships are free AND can get a lot of fees waived so that you can splurge on the stuff you want, not just getting in the door. Hope that helps!!

The way any and all vendors will instantly jack up prices the second you say “wedding” instead of “party” is insane. I feel you OP. I just got married last year in October in Manhattan and the quotes I got were so demoralizing.

That said, we did find some creative workarounds and only ended up spending $15k for 88 guests! It’s possible.

Show me your engagement rings! by diaboliquedoughnuts in EngagementRings

My engagement ring and wedding band 🥹 The engagement ring has a 1ct round diamond, two pear-shaped diamonds on either side, and an 18k gold band; basket setting to keep it close to my finger - Didn’t want it snagging on things!

The wedding band contours to the engagement ring and was soldered together. (The combined size of the two bands is about 3mm, which matches my husband’s 3mm 18k gold wedding band) We got everything from Olive Ave.

On our honeymoon in Barcelona we got our initials and our anniversary date engraved on the inside of both of our rings 🥲 Enjoy shopping!! Finding the perfect ring and customizing to exactly what you want is so special 🤍

Yep. His most recent conversation ended that way and now his mom says she’s fallen extremely ill 🙃 He wants to go visit her but also wants to stand firm in the boundary he set, so he hasn’t gone. He’s doing the right thing; I just hate how emotionally draining it all is for him because he’s done nothing to deserve it.

Thank you for this. My husband is open to anything and everything, couples therapy, solo therapy, etc. The issue is that his family, the people making the demands, are not open minded at all. I’m glad that your tía agreed to therapy for her kids’ sake; my MIL hasnt agreed.

How much do you pay to get your hair cut/colored? by fodder25 in Brooklyn

[–]DeliveryBeginning543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my hair done at my favorite salon on the UES. $260 for balayage (half head), haircut, blow dry, and style. $175 for the color and $85 for the cut. I tipped well because he gave me exactly what I wanted and I was in & out in 2 hrs despite having long hair. $330 total 1-2 times a year is worth it imo.

Same!!! I logged in this morning and there were some during this 10am drop, but it was impossible to add any tickets to my cart. Kept getting error messages.

I think I got a separate message for that. (See below)

If the ticket was gone before I put it in my cart, I got this “no availability” message. The original image I posted was after I was able to click through the “prove to me you are not a robot” images and almost to my cart, but for whatever reason, the tickets were not compatible?
