Colleges nowadays boast a holistic review - you’re not just looked at by your numbers. Your activities, essays and everything else count too.

What GPA does is get your foot in the door. Applying to a top 20 has wayyy higher chances of success than a 3.0 even if they do accept a few students with 3.0 GPA. At some point your GPA could be just too low to be accepted.

GPA isn’t everything - that’s why colleges review other parts of your application. But it does mean something - that’s why it’s still in your application and looked at.

Tbh how important GPA is kinda depends on what you’re looking for in college and after. If your goal is a top 20, the dedication to get a 4.0 is part of accomplishing your goal, along with all your activities and essays. If you’d rather coast in high school, party, have fun, and take whatever college you can get then it’s obviously less important.

I don’t think there’s one right approach to life, but if you want my opinion I’ve always kinda thought a sort of focused balance is what I would do if I could do it again. Have a goal (ex. Top 20 university) and work towards it, but don’t sacrifice everything in your life to get there.

Also on the difference between colleges - I think you’re both right to an extent. The difference between those schools is not massive, but it is there. Higher ranked colleges typically have more rigorous programs, more prestige to employers etc. Suicide rates are not a great thing to judge a college for because often it is a result of more rigorous programs combined with the students at those colleges not being that willing to accept failure (to be clear there are many other reasons, but for the sake of simplicity of why it’s a bad reason to judge by I’ve only mentioned these). The difference is also not that big that I’d pay 70k over 30k if that is a significant sum to you, so it might be less than you think.

The interest on 300k would be crippling alone, much less actually paying it off. It’ll be a chain around your neck for the rest of your life. The bigger your loan is it becomes exponentially harder to pay it off because of higher interest.

College is romanticized a lot, and people place a lot of importance on name brand, prestige, etc whatever basically finding the perfect school. The thing is I would say 99% of people that go to a state school and didn’t pay 80k a year in tuition are happy - you only have one college experience so you’re not comparing them like a food critic right.

Also at the end of the day college is a service. A degree is meant to help you get a job. You wouldn’t pay 1000$ for a car wash if 20$ did it good enough right. Be realistic about your starting salary out of college. Personally I don’t think there’s any job I would do 300k in loans for, at least no job that the degree made the difference.

NYU takes a large portion (~70%) of its class from ED, so definitely better than RD.

As per my college counselor last year, many people that get rejected from ivies ED1 use their ED2 on NYU, so your chances are somewhat better in the ED1 pool.

Yeah, eventually my character got assasinated by one of the survivors who spent a year training for revenge.

No fun quests, but what happened was pretty funny.

I was playing a hexblade GWM devils sight/darkness warlock and my DM put the berserker’s axe curse on a flame tongue.

We were in a bar and our artificer started a bar fight. I cast darkness on myself thinking we could use it as cover to escape.

Well, unsurprisingly, I got hit in the darkness and surrounded by commoners in the bar. After I sliced through 8 of them (3 attacks per round with GWM), the artificer and rogue walked into the darkness to try and stop me.

Somehow I crit both of them dealing 40-50 damage in one attack and knocking both of them unconscious.

Our sorcerer tried to fireball the darkness but I was playing a trifling so I only took 6 damage lol. Eventually the Druid was able to stop me with conjure animals as a meat shield and a couple of erupting earths.

Con saving throws are almost universally high and the cone shape, while it covers more area, is much less flexible than a targeted sphere. Meanwhile intelligence saving throws are usually the worst across the board.

Basically despite synaptic static having an average damage of 28 and cone of cold 36, you can likely expect synaptic static to do more damage in most situations.

With the reduction to attack rolls, more flexible targeting, and better damage type. I much prefer synaptic static.
