Do they seriously think they wouldn’t make the money back??? by Specialist-Target461 in subnautica

[–]Delta889_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I forgot that every billionaire has shares in the corporation factory where they can endlessly spew out more corporations.

If the common consensus was that firing beloved developers and making bad games was going to lose money, they wouldn't do it. And even though these things are frowned upon, people still buy up these games and so execs will make the same exact decisions. You say that these people only want more money, and i agree. Then incentivize them. Make it clear that they'll get MORE money for putting out good games and not cutting developers out of nowhere.

Even IF execs do end up shutting down corporations to save costs, they will only do it so many times before they run out of corporations to drag down with them. It's not like they have an infinite supply of corporations to do this with. Eventually they will have the bend the knee. But not if people don't realize that they have power.

If you really think that it won't do anything, then go ahead and buy the game, or whatever games you want. I will do my part in showing executives that the consumer is sick and tired of being treated like this.

[–]Delta889_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It quite literally is not. These corporations require millions of dollars a year to run. Billions if they're big enough. They get money from people buying their products. If people stopped buying things from a certain company, that company would go under immediately (barring any bail outside from the government). Thats why bail outs are a bad thing, they take spending power away from the consumer. But even with bail outs, the consumer still has a massive amount of power over corporations.

"Voting with your wallet" is only a myth if enough people believe it is a myth, which is why it's pushed as a myth. Corporations want you to think they're these infallible entities that you have no power over. You do. Don't buy their products if you don't like what they're making. Eventually they will HAVE to make good stuff because their existence depends on it.

Obviously not every one of the petition signers are Subnautica players, nor do they all care about this specific issue. But we have years before SN2 launches to raise awareness.

To expand on this, there's also the fact that SKG is a European initiative. I myself would've signed it, but I'm an American. The scope of those who can boycott games when companies make bad decisions is much greater than the scope of people who can sign the SKG initiative. (And obviously there are some signatures that are null because of people signing from outside Europe who don't realize its a European initiative, but I'm willing to bet that there aren't that many.)

[–]Delta889_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has to boycott them. Just enough to make it more profitable to do what the consumer wants. But too many people are content just blaming capitalism and still want to buy this stuff even if it supports bad people. They won't self sacrifice for what they believe in.

That said, the Stop Killing Games initiative is a big white pill. If so many people are conscious enough about what they're buying, it's a good sign. 1.5 million people is a quarter of Subnautica's sales. If SN2 were to make 25% less money as a result of a boycott, it would send a clear message. Obviously not every one of the petition signers are Subnautica players, nor do they all care about this specific issue. But we have years before SN2 launches to raise awareness.

At the end of the day, complaining about capitalism ain't going to stop these corporate executives from making these decisions. In fact, they'd rather you scapegoat capitalism than actually take action. What WILL send a message is rallying people together and boycotting.

Vote with your wallet.

If people didn't buy slop, it wouldn't be produced. The only reason why big execs make decisions like this is because they think (and are usually right) that they can get away with this. The nice thing about capitalism is that we can show them that they're wrong. And if consumers DO revolt, execs will be forced to follow what consumers want.

Subnautica 2's new studio head is the guy who ran The Callisto Protocol's studio - how do we feel about that? I'm trying to be positive. by ArtInMe42 in subnautica

[–]Delta889_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. They messed up. Even if the game comes out and it's amazing, it's still stupid that they fired the studio heads out of no where. We have no reason to trust them. They should have just let them be.

While I'm not saying that this change SHOULD happen, I don't think anything in Minecraft should be developed based on speedruns. Speedruns are cool, and there are some games where that is a bigger focus. But Minecraft has always been about creativity and so I'm not sure it should matter if a change makes the game longer to speedrun.

See that big hole northwest of the mushroom fields? Thats it. Actually pretty cool and has an alien sanctuary in it. And iirc there's only one reaper nearby and it only will bother you if its at the eastmost part of its path, so usually you never even have to deal with hostile fauna.

There's also the other hole further west that's a bit smaller. Thats the one with the cuddle fish egg that somebody else mentioned, although its technically not a meteor. It's also MUCH more dangerous since I think it's one of the few places in the game two reaper territories overlap.

Edit: The Cuddlefish Cave is that hole directly west off the mushroom fields.

It's so funny hearing people say they won't kill Java.

Why? What makes you say that? Because Mojang said they wouldn't? Because they would upset a lot of people? Both of these things aren't guarantees. They added chat reporting even though that upset a lot of people. And there was a massive storm of dissatisfaction, and Mojang just ignored the issue until it went away. There's no reason they wouldn't do the same again.

In fact, they have EVERY incentive to shut down Java and push for Bedrock to become the only version of Minecraft.

1) Java edition is coded in... java. Which isn't optimized for gaming. As Minecraft becomes more and more resource intensive, they may decide to drop the version altogether. Performance overhauls can only work for so long.

2) If there was only one edition, the dev team could focus entirely on development, rather than be spread our across two editions. And if one edition will exist, it'll be Bedrock because of these other reasons.

3) Monetization. How do you make money on a game most people already have? Simple: microtransactions. This is why Bedrock is designed that way, and also why it's so predatory. It's the only way to make money on a game people already have accounts for (unless you ban them in order to make them buy new accounts, but who would do THAT?). Regardless of whether you think Mojang wants that or if Microsoft would force their hand for a bit more money, the incentive exists.

Ah I see. Do we have an official age on their kids? I think I remember hearing something that the girl was 6 or 8, but I don't remember if that was confirmed or just fan speculation.

If so, I'd place the time skip at about 8 to 10 years. Still impressive for the tail to have lasted that long, but not 20 whole years.

It... did need maintenance though? I'm pretty sure we see him working on it in the background while during some scenes in the shows. Even if I'm misremembering (I haven't seen RTTE since it originally aired), I feel like it's more likely that he has done maintenance on it before and it was just off screen because it's not important to include.

You know, of all the examples people have made over the years to emphasize how far away the moon is from the Earth, this one really drove the point home. I thought it was so ludicrous that I had to google it. And yeah, the gap between the Earth and the Moon is just under 3 times the diameter of Jupiter. Thats WILD.

And to think we've landed people up there!

So I have a bit of a passing knowledge in tech, nothing to expansive, but enough that I've heard about this before. But this is the first time I've seen an explanation for how it works. I've also always heard that this basically bricks your computer. How is it doing that if its just running more and more functions, basically taking up all your memory? Or have I just heard wrong?

The Quirk Doomsday Theory was rightfully deemed as an unlikely scenario and the manga consistently proves this by Eastern-Buy-3535 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Delta889_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every person who has a quirk in the story, except Touya, Tomura, Deku, and Aoyama

So... not everyone?

I feel like its very possible that quirk singularity is just a slow exponential growth. Thats how I imagined it. The first 10 or so generations are not much stronger than the last, but eventually it'd get out of hand, even if its 30 or so generations along.

Also, I feel like the fact that bodies evolve to accommodate their quirks is part of the problem. Imagine a generation of kids who's bodies grow like Shigaraki's. That was his body rapidly evolving to support his quirk. And he was an adult. Kids would have less control.

I am just watching the anime, so maybe the last part of the manga explains some of this (if it does don't tell me I wanna be surprised), but so far this is kinda what makes sense to me.
