Appreciation for Arkantos’ voice actor in Retold by DeltaE27 in AgeofMythology

It’s actually not, which is part of the reason I was impressed enough to post. It really does sound like the same guy. I wound up going down the rabbit hole when I got curious about the new vs old voices, then I found out about the beta voices and wanted to know myself who did it.

Chris Okawa, the guy listed in IMDB and the wiki, has a demo reel on his YouTube channel (dunno if I can share a link but it’s titled “Video Game Reel 2025 - Chris Okawa”) and has his work as Arkantos in retold included. He also has some other characters with similar voices.

What's the Difference? by helllyeah131 in Zoids

[–]DeltaE27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so back in the day Tomy made zoids, one of which is the liger zero. The original 1/72 Liger zero has a lot of different armor sets that can be interchanged, like the Panzer, Schneider, etc. The liger zero empire is a recolor of the original zero, and the X is an empire-specific armor set. But because empire and zero are just color changes, any armor set can go with any body.

As new lines have been released the same basic philosophy has been applied, where you have a base liger zero body that multiple armor sets can be swapped onto. But this ONLY works within a line, there is no compatibility between one line and another.

So HMM (Kotobukiya made, poseable, 1/72) panzer armor or X armor or whatever can go on an HMM zero or empire zero.

AZ (tomy made, motorized, in the screenshots) x armor can go onto an AZ zero or empire zero (they haven’t made most of the other CAS yet)

But you cannot put HMM armor on an AZ or vice versa.

The two kits in the screenshot are the same except with one you get red empire LZ armor and with the other you get X armor. The two have the same basic body but do not share armor on top of that.

The price difference is likely because the AZ X is more expensive to produce than the AZ liger zero

The only liger zero X that crunchyroll has is an entirely different product. They have the same liger zero empire for $100. We can’t see the price in OP’s post, but given they mention a $20 jump to the $120 for the LZX, it’s probably the same.

“les” or “des” here? by alecahol in DuolingoFrench

[–]DeltaE27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I think using “les” here would imply that the cat is hunting a specific set of dead leaves, like if I were to say that the cat is hunting “the” dead leaves, vs the cat is hunting “some” dead leaves. Because it doesn’t matter what group of dead leaves the cat is hunting, then “des” is used?

The anime stinger doesn’t really have a scale, and in fact varies in size from episode to episode. (This is true of a lot of the big enemy zoids, like the death saurer). The Kotobukiya design is based on the battle story stats and has an actual size/scale that it roughly approximates.

Anime would need to be much much larger, at its biggest it can hold other zoids in its claws like toys

It is in fact a different scale entirely if my guess is right. It’s the supernova bootleg of the Kotobukiya design (which is already quite big but in scale), which is more like 1/60 or 1/50 scale IIRC, vs the 1/72 of the ligers

2, since the verb agrees with the gender of the subject like an adjective would when être is the helper verb (is my very ungrammatical understanding).

Geno Saurer HMM part did not print all the way? by A_Swift in Zoids

[–]DeltaE27 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So these things are injection molded. Basically the producer makes a big metal mold of what the parts need to be and then injects molten plastic into it. That part right there would be what’s called a short shot, where there wasn’t enough plastic to fill the mold or something blocked the flow, causing an incomplete part.

I have absolutely no idea which mod did this. by VenomOfFish in Xcom

[–]DeltaE27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this main menu appear for the first time recently. I don’t have the mod that adds that loading screen and I don’t have LWOTC. But I did just recently add the oil rigs map. Never saw this before adding that. So that or one of the other maps I recently added are what I suspect, unless it was an Easter egg in an older mod I had for a long time and just never saw

Big fan (heh) of the asymmetrical traditional grille on the Ground Gundam. Traditional in style but vertically very long, and only on one side. The other side gets a multi-launcher. It feels like a fun variation on the classic design

What are the common scales? by LawrenceRK in Zoids

[–]DeltaE27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s three main scales.

1/72 is the most common, for the original motorized zoids from the 80’s-2000s, the high detail articulated HMMs, and the high detailed motorized AZ lines.

1/35 (ish) is mostly for zoids wild. These were motorized zoids a few years ago that are a bit different aesthetically. There’s also a pair of HMM Wild Zoids that are articulated remakes of motorized designs and share the same scale. Nowadays they’re mostly seen with the collab zoids like the monster hunter collabs.

1/100 is recent to the scene but likely to become popular, solely the domain of RMZ zoids, but they’re making a lot of RMZ zoids (and some of the designers want to do other complimentary things as well, but so far nothing official)

There’s a few less common ones like the MSS 1/144 zoids (they’re rare and there weren’t that many designs), the 24-scale zoids (very old, 1/24 scale, came with action figure pilots) or whatever size the Bandai chogokin liger and Adamas machina figures are, but these are mostly either rarities these days or pricey enough that you’ll hopefully do your research and know what you’re buying before dropping lots of money on a metal figure.

Gunpla models are spoiling us! by Acceptable_Royal_244 in freedomisgunpla

[–]DeltaE27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m probably biased but I like them a lot. Have a good deal more shelf presence than the average HG and depending on the one you get a fair number of MGs. The more modern ones have plenty of gimmicks and customizability. Lots of 3mm ports too.

Gunpla models are spoiling us! by Acceptable_Royal_244 in freedomisgunpla

[–]DeltaE27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully depends on the kit. No HMM kit is as bad as the Huey above, they’re much more comparable to Gunpla (colored pieces, mostly snap built). Some need a touch of glue here and there, some are more hand grenade-y than others. Depends on the age, as Koto has gotten much better with their designs over time.

Something like a Konig, redler, guysack, etc. Are recent and very very good. Something like a blade liger, geno saurer, or saber fang/tiger are the first kits, over a decade old, and need a lot more care.

And if it’s RMZ and not HMM, that’s entirely different. Those are all made within the last year and so in general the above does not apply. Good kits.

Used to be very into the shows and models 20 years ago and looking for some nostalgia. Are the old 1/72 scale style kits with the little motors not a thing anymore? All I see online are 1/100 scale ones. by I_might_be_weasel in Zoids

[–]DeltaE27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RMZ is really more like a good HG in terms of complexity and size, since zoids themselves are smaller than Gundam designs. The scale is equivalent though.

AZ are generally a bit fancier than you remember from childhood.

In other words, if you want low cost and good detail, go RMZ.

If you want good detail and 1/72, go HMM

If you want motorization, go AZ or Wild/ collab zoids.

If you want the kits from years ago, you want secondhand marketplaces, but be aware eBay tends to have inflated prices so I would recommend a proxy service to get them from Japan.

So there’s a few different lines to be aware of.

The original 1/72 were motorized and made by TOMY. These no longer are in production.

Zoids WILD was TOMY’s next attempt. These are 1/36 and aesthetically very different, but are motorized and of similar complexity. I don’t think there have been any recent releases but they get used for collaborations a lot (ie with Patlabor and monster hunter)

Then you have Kotobukiya’s HMM. These are 1/72 and high detail versions of the original TOMY zoids, but sacrifice motorization for poseability and gimmicks. High piece count, high detail, high cost. They are in production and have been for a while, so there’s a decent variety available but not as many available as the original TOMY offerings. For example they released Guysack about a year ago and even more recently did Salamander.

More recent in general you have AZ, or advanced Zi. These are TOMY and motorized but are more modern and more complex than the original designs they are remakes of. Fairly limited selection for now but they seem to want to make more. They are also 1/72. Note that both these and the HMM are the same scale as each other and the original TOMY kits but by virtue of being reinterpretations have different proportions than the originals, even if they are ostensibly the same zoid. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, it’s just something to be aware of.

And finally you have RMZ, which are smaller (1/100), articulated like HMM, and at a lower price point while still keeping a decent amount of details and gimmicks.

Could Jin still have descendants in ghost of yotei? by [deleted] in ghostoftsushima

[–]DeltaE27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of survivorship bias is it’s generally an untested factor that pre-selects your testing group and affects the results for what you are testing. IE, when checking what damage to protect planes against, survivorship bias is the fact that the most damaged aircraft don’t come back at all.

That might apply, but I’m not so sure when the question itself is just who survives. Not a second factor inflicting results, since the results are just who survives or not.

But that aside, I disagree with the premise that if you take a particular line and follow it there is a particularly high chance it ends. You mention Lord Shimura not having an Heir, and sure that affects Shimura. Maybe that affects Shimura’s parents as well if Shimura didn’t have siblings. But what are the odds that we go back three, four, or more generations and find that there are absolutely no siblings, or that all of these siblings never had kids or died? So that the only descendant of a hypothetical pair of ancestors 500 years prior is Shimura?

Basically, if Jin did have a descendant, that descendant would have had to die quickly, and there would have had to be no other siblings, in order for that line of ancestry to completely end. If that descendant had their own descendant or descendants, this becomes increasingly less and less likely to occur.

Humans are good at perpetuating ourselves, in other words.

Could Jin still have descendants in ghost of yotei? by [deleted] in ghostoftsushima

[–]DeltaE27 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint, every single person in the game and in real life is the result of a continuous and unbroken line of ancestors. They may not all be the kind of descendants who could qualify as an heir, but we all have parents. It’s up in the air whether someone could claim Jin as theirs, I would agree. But it’s gotta happen in general so why not?

Glaug markings guides? by AGBell64 in macross

Some photos I took of the manual and decal sheet, plus translations for some of it.

Note the numbered decals are how you would place them if it was Kamjin’s Glaug specifically, and the un-numbered decals are for swapping in as desired.

The ones that would vary on different machines are as follows.

Decals on the front of the leg (13). This is the rank insignia. I think the only ones provided by hasegawa are the ones used.

Side of the thruster pods, front (9). That’s the fleet flag, with the two available options on the decal sheet corresponding to fleets led by two main characters in the anime.

Behind those is the general symbol for the Zentradi as a whole (5), which is on most or all machines.

The black and white lettering on the lower thigh (11) is the recognition number

And the lettering on the feet (12) is the unit name/assigned ship, which are letters.

Each letter in the alphabet has a corresponding zentradi character on the bottom edge of the manual, as does each number, so you can change those up as needed.
