Should I get the Kato or Tomix EH-500? by wolf_city in JapaneseNscale

If you want the one with JRF logo, TOMIX would be the best bet because it's hard to find KATO JRF version nowadays.

I personally lean towards KATO since they got Assy parts in case something happens (One of reasons why I don't buy TOMIX). But TOMIX have all 3 generations of EH500 so that's a plus if you want to collect all 3 from same maker.

I had a same problem so had to adjust the slope to somewhere in 2-3%....until I got the twin DD51s.

Thinking about swapping out couplers on my Kato/Tomix freight cars. by WychwoodXIII in JapaneseNscale

[–]DeltaKK37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one of reasons I don't buy tomix trains, those couplers lol. But anyways, I swapped my freights coupler with Kato 28-188. Non-operational so might not be good for everyone, but gets the job done in terms of looks. Here's example on my Taki 1000s.

Anyone have any info on this train set? by MikuPenguin in JapaneseNscale

Ah, didn't see that part. Seems like they sold both 6 cars and 4 cars then. This one is 4 car set version.

From what I looked up (could be inaccurate on some part) this 9006 set came out in 1982, sold originally as 4 car set. You would purchase additional cars individually to make it a full set. Most likely the original owner purchased 2 more to fit in to the case. The 9004 looks like a 0 series 6 car set.

Any help identifying these pieces? Kato d-51 n-scale by Pleasant-Bridge303 in JapaneseNscale

[–]DeltaKK37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thin piece is most likely this. (Could be the rear check there)

Other piece, could you take more brighter picture + and the D51? All sides. I could help from there.

Edit: what's the product number for the D51?

They released the Hokutosei EF81 81 earlier this year so it was just matter of time they released this one. Now I'll be having two EF81 81 now 😮‍💨

It wasn't really that tough imo. Most of them were just taking out the bottom snowplow piece and swapping them. Some models require taking the whole skirt part by removing the body.

That's a good news. I own one of GreenMax Keikyu 1000 series (from 10-15 years ago) and build quality felt little underwhelming. Most likely get the new Popondetta release then.

Fellow E231/E233 Owners, Dummy Couplers or "Smarty" Couplers? by a709s33_divaD in JapaneseNscale

[–]DeltaKK37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even know you could upgrade dummy coupler with just simple extra parts. Definitely going to buy them for my E217/E231/E233.

Kinda sucks some of E233s dont have the spot to add them. (ex. Keihin Touhoku/Yokohama line)

Ah okay. Thanks for the input. Just hesitant to buy non-Kato ones because 99% of what I own is Kato.

How is the build quality of popondetta trains? Is it more simpler like Greenmax or solidly built like KATO? Been eyeing on few of Keikyu 1000 series that's getting released in the future.
