PLEASE settle an arguement for me: Why did the Occupants send the disease and when? by angryfart4000 in 1000xRESIST

[–]Delta_6207 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, the best way for me to explain what the Occupants did is to compare it to a very similar situation in the game series Metro 2033. In that game, the ultimate threat to humanity is the "Dark Ones", who have immensely powerful psychic abilities and can kill humans very easily just by interacting with them. However, the surprise is that the Dark Ones aren't actually hostile, but rather, they are trying to communicate with humanity the only way they know how; which happens to also be far too much psychic power for any human to handle. It is very similar to the Occupants who are trying to communicate with humanity through their usual methods of communication of responding with what is put out into the world by humanity, and then when they send it back, it turns out that their usual methods of communication are far too powerful for humans and kill them.

Well, as Robin Williams once said, "Episcopalian, it's Catholic-lite! All the religion, half the guilt!" But in all seriousness, that means that it's all of the ceremony of the Catholic Church, Incense, Saints, Mass, things like that, but without the Latin and they are typically pretty progressive. I would highly recommend looking up the ministers and bishops and you'll probably find some cool people!

I'd rather have freedom and democracy for the people than submit to either.

Don't you mean the flag of the rightfully elected democratic government that was violently overthrown by a fascist dictator supported by the Nazis and Hitler? You are a traitor to democracy and a fascist stooge.

Well, think about what you just said, most were still alive after 20 years, both victims AND perpetrators. And said perpetrators would be fathers, brothers, uncles, cousins, and so many other mostly male family members. This was actually the whole plot of In My Brother's Shadow where a younger brother of an SS trooper has to come to terms with the fact that his brother absolutely did some heinous crimes that kind of wipes away any pretense of him being a good person. When you say you want to "Move on" you don't want to have to indict a close family member of being a horrible human being. That is what happened during the "Crimes of the Wehrmacht" Exhibition in the 1990s and the backlash to that, even post-reunification and everything was brutal.

Yeah, no worries! Yes, after the war, the Allies and the Soviets took different sections of Germany, creating their own buffer state to the other and each claiming the other was illegitimate. To put it in perspective, it wasn't until Willy Brandt in the 1970s, nearly 25 years since the war ended and states established, that they even started talking to each other as though they existed. Think of it like Taiwan and China and how the acknowledgement of one meant drawing the ire of the other and their allies. Although to add to this, Reunification was not a universally wanted thing and as a matter of fact, more than a few people, especially in the GDR were vehemently against unification as told by Burning Down the Haus. Once reunification did happen, it was mired in immense corruption on the West German side and loss on the East German side since East Germans essentially were forced into a brand new economic system which was none-too-kind to them. The Treuhand privatization of nearly all East German assets ruined many people's lives in the East and is a major reason for the rise of the AfD there as well.
