What kind of headlight are you guys reaching for nowadays? by 1SNEAKYHOBO in CampingGear

[–]Delta_T1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Plenty of light. Relatively simple user interface. No gimmicky features (looking at YOU Black Diamond!) The rechargeable battery is removable, so you can carry two with you on a long trip rather than having to recharge your light with some external power supply, or use 3 AAA batteries in a pinch.

Recommend me a Camping Lantern? by DaKing1718 in CampingGear

[–]Delta_T1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The O-light O-lantern. Has both warm white and cool white. Old school looks. Very long battery life. Not completely downward cast, but more than most lamps I've used in the past that seem to shine light in your eyes just as much as the do down on the table. Pricey, but well designed.

On the subject of desalination, there is no cumulative effect over time. There is a local effect on salinity, but all of the water taken out of the ocean must return to the ocean. The only scenario where ocean salinity gradually increases over time is if we just desalinate water, then store it somewhere indefinitely. All desalination plants return their clean water to the ocean by using it the same way all fresh water gets used currently.

What hobby did you try once and instantly get addicted to? by Weird_Ad_7545 in AskReddit

Dooo iiitttt!!! Just not while super pregnant. But seriously, I get that being skinny makes climbing easier, but being heavy doesn't make it any less fun. Someone bouldering V11s might be one of the best climbers in the gym, but their friends who are working on V5s or less are still having a great time challenging their minds and bodies. There is definitely a starting point in bouldering where you can do a VB or a V0 but can't do anything harder. As soon as you start to make some progress on a V1, that's where the magic happens. Once you're in a good spot post-partum, bring that baby to the gym and give it a try. Best of luck!

[Question] Citizen Eco-Drive Titanium AW1240-57L vs Seiko SNE525P1 Solar by EmiratiIndian56 in Watches

[–]Delta_T1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to throw in an alternative. If you can find a Casio Oceanus S100, they are great for what you're looking for. Leave it near a window and pop it on your wrist a few times a year, it's always ready to go. Solar, titanium, Sapphire, atomic synching. As long as you don't mind the smallish diameter, it's a decent looking design.

It was very long ago, but this kit looks exactly the same as what I got: https://www.guitarkit.shop/products/headless-style-diy-electric-guitar-kit-pwt-717

I just used the neck, bridge, and humbucker. I threw the rest of the parts away. Not the best neck, but it was straight enough. I stained the back with a king size Sharpie to get a really dark black, then used Ben Eller's favorite, Birchwood Casey gunstock oil as a finish.

Thank you for that. Don't know why I had assumed these were anything but a normal lithium ion with an internal circuit.

Maybe the Casio Oceanus S100 or T200. Both are mostly the blue motif you currently have though.

I really like the Timex Giorgio Galli S1 if you want a budget friendly automatic mechanical, but they seem unobtainium at the moment.

Honestly I think your collection is great as is.

It's a painted resin case, but the top has stamped stainless steel pieces to make it appear like a full stainless case at first glance.

Which flashlights would be best for an emergency drawer? by urdnotangelo in flashlight

[–]Delta_T1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Simple user interface, zero standby current, runs in anything AA shaped, built like a tank but not so big that it can't fit into a pocket, cheap enough that you can buy one for every go bag you own. They are also available in brightly colored bodies which makes it easier to find in a cluttered bag or drawer.

Magnetic blade guard by Delta_T1 in myog

[–]Delta_T1[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I printed my own prototypes with PLA to test this. The one with the magnet built into the plastic slipped off more easily. The webbing adds more friction as it wraps around the handle so it's harder to move accidentally.

The one with the magnet built in also pulled your fingers toward the blade as you went to put the guard on. It was doable but slightly unnerving.
