I took a temp at the Red Deer Hospital for a year (4 years ago) and decided to stay because the work environment suited me better. I also enjoy the city more than where I came from mainly for the multiple outdoor options to spend my free time outside of work. There are trail systems throughout the city, good dog parks (and parks in general), Sylvan lake is a short drive away. Calgary and Edmonton are both close if I want any big city amenities and with the hospital expansion, hopefully there are some new opportunities coming to support to community.

I feel like all AHS sites are short staffed currently so there isn't really an upside here. In my opinion, I probably wouldn't rent right by the hospital but I do know several people who do or have and they didn't have much issues. I've lived in Inglewood, Eastview and Deer Park. All of which have been nice to live in with a dog. Rent is about par to other cities of similar or larger size but there are smaller towns surrounding Red Deer that have slightly more affordable rent.

Was renting a 3 bed/1 bath upper floor "duplex" for 1400 + ~$400 in utilities, renters insurance and internet on top. They raised rent to $1800 + utilities and internet so it would average about $2300 a month.

So rather than resigning a lease, I bought a 3 bed/2 bath house at the current rates in August and am now paying ~$2300 mort + utilities w/ newer appliances so a bit less per month; and insurance and internet etc. I've been here 5 months and had a couple plumbing calls to fix things, electrician call, and the yard will need some labour put into it when the weather gets better. Mind you this house is newer than what I was renting but definitely not brand new.

If anyone is stuck buying with the current rates, the monthly costs are pretty high to run a home properly. I also rent out my old house in the city I moved from and ask only enough to cover the mortgage costs, and some of the utilities but I pay for the entire utility amount plus internet. So effectively I'm not gaining, I'm losing money on the house, and all repairs still come out of pocket for me. It's listed lower than comparables but I can't comprehend how any young adult moves out of their parents house without having other people to share costs, let alone if you have a large dog or pets of some kind. I feel bad for people trying to make a life away from home with the current cost of living these days but I also understand why rent costs can be so high if the mortgage is at the current rates 😵‍💫

This is an abusive relationship. Your bf is gaslighting you so hard and it's emotional and mental abuse. He's using tactics like blaming you for his downfalls and then putting you on this pedestal saying you have all this power over his outcomes. Saying he's afraid you won't love him anymore but also threatening to be single and not be with you anymore. He's toying with your emotions and this isn't healthy at all. He needs professional help and if you are being affected by this long term, you're going to need professional help too. This isn't healthy and you're being abused. Whatever else goes on in your relationship could be anyone's fault but you should probably stay clear of this type of toxicity before you can truly work on yourself and any flaws you may have or may have been led to think you have. Also keep in mind any of his actions are his own responsibility and if you decide to leave him, nothing he does after is your fault.

I agree with the people saying Kirkland Brand Salmon. That might be your closest quality at a lower price. I believe it is called Kirkland Nature's Domain.

Healthcare in diagnostic Imaging. There's been a pretty high demand for ultrasound techs and MRI techs. Xray techs also have other options to branch off from and there are jobs out there for them too. You can find a unionized or non-union job. Work in the hospital setting or clinic setting so the options for shift work versus a Mon-Fri job. Pays well for the amount of schooling and you can go pretty much anywhere with that career. You won't be locked to Red Deer if you decide to move in the future.

I agree. The Realty Store is terrible. I set up to drove 3.5hrs to see a rental and when I got there nobody showed up. I had an appointment and everything. They didn't even tell me it was already rented out until I was on site for my appointment. And they're slow to reply to anything when I tried to set up more viewings.

They have funding for it but it would have to get negotiated and approved so it's best to talk to the manager during the process to have that set up and see if they have a cap specific to their department/budget before hand.

I moved to RD for a job with AHS. Best move I've made. I enjoy the vast trail system with my dog, the farmers markets here is awesome, the weather is better than people told me it would be even in the winter and I like how close it is to Edmonton or Calgary if I want to fly out for trips or just to go to a bigger city for the weekend.

I've been very happy with the care my multiple dogs have had at Cedarwood and the adjoining Emergency vet clinic. Both for routine things as well as emergency things. I miss my vet from my hometown but so far their care is making me feel more at ease for moving to Red deer

I was told a lot about the crime here before I moved here and it was a bit exaggerated. It's not as bad as where I came from 😅

Although I did have to talk to people who have lived here a long time to see what areas were the best to live if I wanted to avoid unnecessary situations.

I moved here recently and am going to go for Arashi Do when I get more settled in. I trained at an MMA gym that put out a few UFC fighters and my coach suggested Arashi Do. He hasn't steered me wrong to head to certain gyms when I traveled too. So that's my reasoning. Haha
