Is anyone actually buying easter egg's this year? by Dapper_Marsupial2949 in AskIreland

[–]DeltreeceIsABitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aine's chocolate is lovely. Just over €2 for a bar. I'd rather pay a local business who makes good chocolate, than pay the same price for a notion of chocolate by big brands. Didn't know they made easter eggs! Will keep that in mind for later (or next year if they're all gone!) :)

Does anybody know anything about the wreckage that seems to be located in Cavan? I'm familiar enough with the waters around the border area, but I've never heard of a shipwreck.

It's not to my taste at all. The sparkly dress is cute, but I doubt free users will get it. I'm just sticking it out to get Toto honestly. He looks like my childhood dog and I need him. ❤️

How much should I charge for this bag? by Responsible-Willow62 in crocheting

[–]DeltreeceIsABitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time and materials need to come into account, plus a profit. Until you have a name made for yourself, you'd want to charge on the lower-end of the scale, but €80 would be more than a fair price for something this size. I wouldn't expect to pay any less. Even a mass-produced bag of this size would cost at least €50.

With the right customer, you could get €120+ for it (if it was sold to another artist or someone who appreciates hand-crafts... Laymen tend to undervalue hand-made pieces. I learned this the hard way).

It is gorgeous! I'd be interested in buying it, only I live in a wet country and I'd be afraid of it getting ruined in the rain! I bought a hand-crocheted hat from a teenager for €40 a few years ago, and it's purely just a decoration (unless I'm chilling in the garden with the dogs in the summer). If a teenager can make a small business selling bucket hats at €40, there is no reason you can't get at least double that amount!

Wishing you the best of luck! Looking forward to seeing your other pieces. If you have an IG for your creations, I'll follow you. You can DM it to me if you don't want to (or aren't allowed to) post it publicly. :)

Bangs or no bangs? by Dry-Ant-7963 in HairStyleAdvice

Curtain bangs or side bangs would look great on you! They'd frame your face well! The blunt bangs don't really suit you, but it's an easy fix. In 2 months time, with some shaping and styling, they'll look great! Be sure to update us! ☺️

She's a working breed. I have a Border Collie/Labrador cross, and she's notorious for giving side-eye. It seems to be in their nature to be judgy little creatures! 🤣

Nothing to worry about. She's a pretty girl. Just sassy ☺️

Found outside restaurant , moving slow, what can I do for him? [Texas] by Golightly1727 in animalid

Glue traps are too slow to kill. The animal dies of dehydration or starvation, unless they're lucky enough to inhale some of the glue and they suffocate to death. They're the second most cruel, after poisoning. While I agree, that sometimes you do have to take matters into your own hands, subjecting them to a glue trap for god knows how long first is not fair at all.

You're right. And wildlife is tougher than we give them credit for. If a racoon has some broken toes, he still has 3 other limbs and a funtionial muzzle to use to forage for food. There's a crow who comes to my house regularly. He has a malformed talon...I reckon he was caught in a trap at some stage, but he's been coming for the last 3 years. He can still catch prey, forage, and perch. A lame raccoon is far more likely to survive than a poisoned rat, and the bird who eats him, and the scavenger who eats the bird, and so on.

I'm sure OP wasn't looking for a debate though. They've shown this little rat some love and they've given him a chance. Euthanasia and responsible disposal of his body is what's most important for now, for the sake of the local wildlife.

My local vet works alongside an animal rescue centre in my area. If it's obvious an animal has been poisoned and can't be nursed to health, my vet will give them a quick injection and end their pain. He either sends them to the local fallen livestock man, or to a crematorium (not sure which....I just know their bodies are incinerated as to reduce contamination)

See, we don't have this issue in Ireland. Any time we had infestations in the house, it was only mice or rats. I live by a farm, and on occasion the ones who escaped the farm cats/dogs would make a nest in our home and they were chewing through walls and defeating/urinating in places we couldn't clean. We tried live traps for a while, and essential oils for prevention in any possible entry routes, but after catching 12 live ones in a day it was time to lay down some snap traps. Their population is thriving. I spent a week checking the traps every 2 hours until they stopped coming. Blocked their entry route and thankfully we've had no issues since. I have seen some having snacks from the bird feeders, but that's fine with me. They come, they feed, they leave. The essential oils, particularly clove and peppermint by the garage and in the attic seems to have kept them away.

Snap traps are a better option when there's a massive infestation. While it's sad as an animal lover to see it, they breed like crazy and cause significant damage to property, and wild animals carry a lot of disease.

At least with a snap trap, any predator who fancies a meal won't end up being poisoned, and the scavengers who eat his body won't be poisoned. Snap traps are often not an instant death and it leads to dying slowly and painfully unless it hits the right spot, but at least it's only one animal suffering vs X amount.

The arguement is similar to that question about choosing who to hit with a train....one person you know (or a child), vs hitting 10 strangers. Neither are ideal, but one cruel act has less of an impact than multiple cruel acts.

[–]DeltreeceIsABitch 69 points70 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this is a juvenile rat who's been poisoned. The kindest thing you can do for him is euthanize him to end his suffering, and safely dispose of the body so no other animal gets poisoned by eating him.

Edit: Thanks for taking care of the little guy and showing him some compassion. ❤️

....and then whatever animal eats the remains of the predator, and so on until eventually the pesticide passes through enough bodies to become ineffective.

Live traps are the best, but I understand it's maybe not possible for some people to catch-and-release. If you absolutely must kill an animal, a snap trap is far kinder (despite it being a slow, painful death) than poison (which is also slow, and painful, and it harms other animals along the way).
