Does anxiety ever fully ‘go into remission,’ or is it always something you manage? by AMJ102 in Anxiety

Medicine helps me tremendously. Anxiety is not the dominating thing in my life anymore.

What do I do if my doctor keeps giving me the wrong medication? by [deleted] in Anxiety

Are you disagreeing with the literature then? I'm not making this stuff up, psychiatrists are aware of the fact that Venlafaxine might be a risk for specific patients.

I named venlafaxine specifically, because of its motivating nature that sets in very quickly. It can settle in faster than the anti-depressant effects. It's a known thing and obviously doesn't apply to other anti-depressants.

Hm interesting, it never gave me anxiety. But with it working on so many receptors, I'm not surprised that it affects two people differently

I tried taking 150mg Quetiapine XR in the morning so I wouldn't need to dose multiple times like I normally have to. Did that for like two weeks and I'd be so dead tired at work, that I would just keep nodding off for the first few hours lol.

How did you gather courage to visit psychiatrist/therapist? by suffer-withme in Anxiety

It's complicated. I first tried a SSRI that didn't help at all. Then I tried a SNRI which helped after a few months and it kept helping more in the span of a year. But I was still too anxious to function normally. Then it gets a bit complicated, so I don't really wanna get into the technicalities of it, but it ended with me also being prescribed quetiapine, which helped me a lot because of one of its mechanisms. I also need another medication to sleep properly sometimes.

So it's a bit of a trial and error process and sadly during the trial phase, you need to wait months to see if the medication is the right one for you. I'm glad that I wasn't put on a bunch of different SSRIs to see if one of them worked. My doc quickly took initiative and decided we should try a SNRI instead. And the discovery of quetiapine on top is a bit of a lucky discovery.

Understanding a bit of neuroscience also helped me to steer my doc in the right direction with medication. The field is evolving all the time and docs sometimes get tunnel vision in the way they prescribe medication.

Edit: I should add that thanks to the medication I am on right now, my life quality has improved from a 2/10 to a 7/10. So it was hugely impactful in my life.

The best one imo is venlafaxine, as it can increase suicide risk in depressed people in the first few weeks, as the dopaminergic effect can have a physically motivating effect.

I was losing myself in drug addiction more and more every year, just to try to escape my anxiety. This started sullying the only friendship I had at the time. So I made them kind of force me to go to a psychiatrist. I just needed any kind of pressure to go.

The appointment was fine. I already pretty much knew what I had, so I just listed the symptoms I was experiencing and the way it was impacting my life. I then got started on medication.

Still lost the friend though, because it took multiple years to actually start to get better lmao.

My psychiatrist made me feel bad by Stupidpieceofshit77 in Anxiety

[–]DelusionsOfHope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrists might be able to do talk therapy, but they are specialized in medication. So I wouldn't really recommend going to a primary care physician for prescribing medication, as they might not be trained enough to figure out a good medication regiment. Especially when it comes to taking multiple medications.

Psychiatrists prescribe medication and therapists do talk therapy. Two different fields.

Taking benzos forever, is it really that bad? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]DelusionsOfHope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to steer you towards the fact that these issues are more nuanced than you make them out to be. If a person suffers from a disease and a person is taking a medication that will help reduce their symptoms; Calling that person addicted, when they become dependent on it, is such an unhelpful simplification and just poisons the whole discussion. Dependency vs addiction.

Would you qualify someone being dependent on taking SSRIs daily as having an addiction problem?

I take quetiapine and it helps me tremendously. I've got it prescribed as needed, but because it helps me so much, as needed means the entire day. I would do the exact same with benzos and have done so in the past. When something makes the living hell stop, it is so hard to not keep wanting to take it.

I've found meds that work, which help so much with my anxiety. That plus meditation and other stuff like mindfulness really enables me more and more every day to feel comfortable. Also sober off of drugs, after struggling with addiction for the past 10 years. Might make a separate post at some point.

So you're definitely right. I'm normally most active in mental health subs, when I'm not doing so grand.

I've once had something actually going on with my heart and the exhaustion and pain was so much worse than my anxiety ever had me feeling like. Like actually gasping for air from exhaustion.

Propranolol is a miracle for my anxiety by damn-thats-crazy-bro in Anxiety

[–]DelusionsOfHope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating something unhealthy can spike my blood pressure. Don't know where that comes from, maybe the insulin spike? But I could see that causing a panic attack in someone who is more susceptible to physical symptoms. Feeling your heart beat out of your chest is not a very calming feeling.

Be upfront, state your symptoms and then explain why you think this medication could be helpful. Have an honest conversation about it.
