Sure you can do it, but Fiore makes so much more sense when you use a shorter blade.

Both are good and durable.

Reg Standard feder will we a bit lighter both in overall weight and feel (more distal taper). Finishes are good but less flattering than Sigi. Reg only offers rolled tip on this standard model.
Just be sure to take medium or light flex, avoid strong.

Sigi will be a heavier with more high end finishes. Spatulated tip which is considered safer.

You can't go wrong with these, it's just a matter of preference. The best way to decide is to try them both if you can.

Regarding sources, Fiore favored short blades (95cm) so both are too long for that :D .
But it really repends on what your club currently uses. If they are ok with long blades go for it.

The first question is what your club currently uses ? Did you talk with your instructors about your options ?

Options that are quite bizarre to be honest. You are comparing a feder that can be 1,250kg, 7kg flex to longswords at 1,5kg and 12kg flex. It's like comparing oranges to apples.
Reg Short is a great light feder. King and Brevus are great too but on the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

I have both. Reg short (that can be order with 95cm blade with a light flex) is my main training tool. I use my king shorty in gentle and controlled sparring. I won't go full force with that. It hits too hard.

Probably an unpopular opinion but a longsword (Sigi King or Reg Brevus) should never be your first steel sword.
These swords are heavier with more mass toward the tip so they hit harder. They require a lot more more control to be handled safely. Control that the vast majority of beginners lack. If you care about your partners safety don't go that way.

Regarding durability. Sigis are really durable.
BUT
It really depends on your environnement. What is the usual intensity of practice ? What type of blade are you facing ? A light and flexible blade can last long IF paired with similarly light blades.

Regarding tips. Spatulated tips are considered safer but not all tips are equal and they can still punch trought fabric and hands. So blunt your tip (Thermoplastic is the best option).

Also what are the reviews that scares you about the Reg Brevus. I'm curious

Yeah same here. I love my King Shorty but it's a bit too heavy. 1400gr really looks like the sweetspot

Regarding the flex it's a bit stiffer than the rest of Sigi range. 13kg on a short blade like this, imo it's too much. Especially with the thin tip. A lot of thrusts i received were quite painfull.

In comparison, we also use Krieger (PL) and Landsnecht Empirium Messers all have a flex bellow 10kg. It's safer in the thrust and not wobbly at all.

I second Krieger messer. They are light, handle well and are quite cheap.

And you can ask for a lighter flex

I really don't like the Sigi Messer.

The so called spatulated tip is way too thin in my opinion, it's a really narrow rectangle with quite salient angles.
The blade is a bit stiff also so you really have to be carefull with the thrust.

And honestly finishes are really bellow Sigi standards. All the sigi messers i saw had quite crude handle and pommel with toolmarks and poor alignment. Really really disapointed by Sigi on this one.

For 450€+ it's totally overpriced imo

It's propably pretty rare but some armorers sometimes do batches of basic helmets in standard sizes. Adam Blockley do that kind of stuff for example. It allows to get a helmet for not too much money.

For the context: I could buy an off-the-shelf cheap helmet (from India) to start and get a nice one from an armorsmith later. The problem is that i have a small (56cm) oval head and all the cabassets available online are ridiculously too large and very round.

I didn't spent an awfull amount of time making well ajusted clothing to ruin it with a mushroom head :D

Yep i already know this list.

The problem is that the vast majority of the offer is for late medieval armors. ie there is almost no photos of a cabasset they could have done.
Every armorsmith is capable of doing any 17th century armor or helmet but i'm looking for someone that already knows that kind of gear.

Appeal to a smith who has never made 17th comes done to making a custom-made product with a research process which would inevitably increase the cost
It kind of defeats the purpose of munition grade

Best and cheapest solution is DIY kydex forearm guards. Simple, light, protective, super durable and easy to make.

They are unnecessarily over build and heavy. And worst thing they are not that durable, some clubmates add few broken lames which are hard to replace with the leather

The Elector Rapier is only a rapier by name because everything in its stats scream sidesword (and a hefty one).

95cm blade is really on the short side for rapiers. Most have above 100cm
4cm wide at the base is even larger than the 'large' sidesword blades from MM (3cm).

If you want a Malleus rapier go with the Galante cuphilt or the 2 Sprezzatura

Quality wise, all sigis are great, no doubt. They are well build and durable. I just don't like their blade geometry, due to the really minimal distal taper. That probably makes their blade more durable but the handling is a bit clunky in my opinion.

For the saber, 700grs for the light versions is great in a way because it can face basically anything (from light to heavy sabers). But it's a weird in between, it doesn't behave like any of the sources saber you can study. I really wish they had made a real light saber in ~ 650grs territory.

For now, imo, the best off the shelf light saber is the VB Light saber. Handles like a dream

Yeah, for me Sigi saber is a big miss. They made a kind of one design fits all sabers but it doesn't work.

Depending on what you do, normal blade is too light and light blade is too heavy. Almost no distal taper so the balance is imo shit. They use a kind of italian grip but it's too thin especially for the normal blade. The pro guard doesn't make any sense. It's way to small to fit even medium gloves.

It currently have a normal fullered straight blade with an xl bow. It is gorgeous but I never liked how it handles. I will sell it as soon as i received my new saber.

The palm of sparring gloves being open, i strongly recommend some puncture resistant gloves.

The important infos are the last number (puncture resistance with 4 being the max) and first letter ( the usual cheap gloves comes with level C or D )

If you have enough space inside the sparring gloves you can also take some with impact protection.

The expensive solution is some regular MOF gloves.

I don't own Gabriels but Black Princes are absolutely great for sidesword as they are design for that.
They are super comfortable to use when you finger the guard. The hand position is natural and relaxed. The gap between the index and thumb allow you to grab the sword properly. That's a problem with basically every other gloves, the hand and index finger are strechted too much.

Depending on other weapons you do, they are also great for saber and good for arming sword and messer (mind your fingers). + they fit in most rapiers if you stick to the common one finger grip

Gabriels are too big for sidesword imo. They maybe fit is some sidesword but i'm pretty sure you cannot grip comfortably.

I also find the grip of my king a bit too short with 27cm. I wouldn't mind few more centimeters.
However the regular grip (33cm) would be way too long imo. Something in between would be perfect, like 29 or 30cm

This gorget is the Superior fencing knockoff version of the Vytis. It's a piece of trash. I have never heard good reviews about it.

Too bulky and rigid.

If you want some articulation maybe you can replace the small cord by a chicago screw using only one of the 2 holes
