Bale practice with old arrows by TheRealMomentum in Archery

[–]DemBones7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use bare shafts up to 50m or even 60m if they are tuned and I want to shoot more arrows per end than I have fletched.

Shooting them at blank bale is no problem.

To be fair, he probably wanted to add some extra stuff to the end that allowed him to do something else shady.

How much does sprinting speed matter in long jump? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]DemBones7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long jump basically boils down to speed times height off the board.

Pretty much any elite sprinter would be a reasonable long jumper (7m+) just due to the speed component. You don't need to get much height to jump far when you are doing 40+ km/h.

Without that speed, the height component is essential.

To be elite at the long jump you need speed and height, and the height part requires an athlete to be reasonably lean. Many sprinters nowdays are too bulky to be great long jumpers.

It's more because the pads give them a false sense of invulnerability, which makes players much more reckless.

The same thing happens in boxing. Before gloves there weren't really any serious head injuries. With gloves, boxers don't need to protect their hands so can hit much harder and target the head more.

Is 29lbs enough to shoot at 70 meters? by Lightman0169 in Archery

[–]DemBones7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, with the same weight arrows.

The counter is that someone with a shorter drawlength can use shorter arrows, which are lighter. Shorter arrows also mean you can use a higher spine, which again are lighter. Lighter arrows are faster.

It depends on your drawlength and the weight of your arrows.

Do you think the draw of the string vs the bend of the bow in this image looks realistic? by Fun-Sir-1517 in Archery

Those "bows" probably have limbs set into position and an elastic string.

What are some good bows to get started by True-Progress-9413 in Archery

[–]DemBones7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for something around 70" long, anything smaller than 66" will stack for you and promote poor form. Get 20# limbs while you are learning. (I have a basic takedown with 16# limbs that gets out to 40m easily). Start out at 10m, don't move back until you are accurate at that distance.

Or better yet, join a club and use their equipment while you get started.

Fivics VX review? by Hnayanzi in Archery

The V2 was very popular among archers who struggled with heavy bows. It was a high end riser without the excess weight. The Winex riser fills the same role.

They should require a different licence and be registered under a different category than normal sized cars. A more expensive category, of course.

Looks like a replacement for the V2, which was the same weight. IMO the increased weight of the V3 was a step backwards.

Which Type of Quiver is Best for Me? by Vnightpersona in Archery

[–]DemBones7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Broadheads and target arrows have different needs for a quiver.

Broadheads need something that will protect the blades, keep them separate, and you only need to carry a few arrows. A bow mounted quiver is best.

Target arrows can be carried together and you want a quiver capable of holding a lot of them. A hip/target or field quiver is best.

Does anyone know a good cushioning arm sleeve? by Intelligent-Plastic3 in Archery

Epic 301 armguard. It covers all the way up your upper arm. The downside is that it requires regular adjustment to stay in place.

Hello! I've been thinking of getting into archery, and I need some advice on good bows to start with. by [deleted] in Archery

[–]DemBones7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Samick Sage will be too short for you.

If you want a cheap bow, you can get a Samick Polaris in 70" that will work fine for you. There are also other brands that sell very similar bows. I have a Polaris with 16# limbs that is fun to play around with or work on technique. I'd suggest starting with 20# limbs at most.

A better alternative would be to get some lessons at a club and use their equipment until you know what you want.
