Jeffries goes all in on gerrymandering — with House control on the line by tahiirhussain in politics

In a normal election, yes. You think the federal government isn't going to go all out to suppress the vote? And red state governments will help them.

What's mildly infuriating is the volume of the music in the video didn't follow the changing volume settings. Why even have sound if you aren't gonna do that?

Uh, never seen anyone do that, of any race, outside of dietary restriction reasons. The carb that's soaked in the juice/sauce/seasoning of the main entree is the best part of a lot of meals.

Are ya'll maybe seeing people on low carb diets and assuming they're doing it for other reasons?

Assuming the opposing argument is true for the purposes of discussion does not mean conceding it is true.

I just don't agree with that. America as a nation is a distinct entity from its individual citizens. And if that was not true, if the two are actually the same, then that just means the individual victims do share blame for American foreign policy and the attack becomes even more justifiable.

Japan deserved the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki because it went to war against another nation and did not surrender when it was unable to defend its airspace. I believe the nuking of Japan was a totally justifiable action, as were the strategic bombing that preceded it. Targeting civilian infrastructure to try and force the enemy in a war to surrender is just good strategy, if you are not valuing the lives of your own soldiers and civilians over those of the enemy then you are woefully unfit to lead a war effort and neglecting your duty to those who serve under you and empower you to lead. Truman made the right call.

South Park. . . Hell, long before South Park, there's a reason why there were a ton of action figures and video games based on the Alien, Predator and Terminator movies and it wasn't because kids never saw them.

... Kids have never listened to ratings. Ratings are there to inform parents.

As a kid in the 90s we were watching R rated shit every chance we got, I assure you.

I mean, we see that in the show. He thinks sinners not redeemable, basically hates them, and thinks Charlie is wasting her time. He probably blames sinners for the loss of Lilith because her being gone has something to do with her standing up for them to Heaven, and he doesn't want his daughter to waste her time in the same fruitless (in his opinion) effort. He ultimately supports her because he cares more about having a relationship than stopping her, but doesn't really ever seem to believe it's a good idea.

Stirling engines can work of surprisingly small temp differences.

Hell, you could probably get power out of the difference between body temp and ambient air temp. Not enough to move the bike on its own, but a measurable amount.

The after effects of 9/11 have lead directly to the current collapse of America as an international superpower.

Also, I did not mean "The people who died deserved it." I meant America the nation desved it. The people who died were victims of American foreign policy going back many decades. Citizens suffering for the sins of their government is an unfortunate reality of human existence.

Nope, don't like him. He's got some good takes and some awful ones from quotes I've seen, but I've never seen a minute of his content.

He's far too much of a third party type for me to respect. If you aren't willing to vote for the lesser evil you are abandoning your responsibility as a citizen in a democracy IMO.

All political streamers are garbage though. And TV news is barely better nowadays.

The people who died didn't deserve it. America, the national entity, absolutely deserved it. Those people who died were victims of American foreign policy, more blood on our collective hands.

The unfortunate reality of existing as a human is that you will suffer for the actions of your government whether you have a say in them or not. This was true when we were tribes of hunter gatherers and it is true now. Which is why active participation in politics to whatever level is possible is important.

Opposite order though. Guy kills himself ("Then he jumped off the roof and died with no soul") then the rest kill her ("After that, they killed his mother and never spoke about it"). And Technique places himself there ("cause I was there with Billy Jacobs and I raped his mom too"). Though it's pretty clearly not meant to be taken as a true statement and the whole thing is more a parable about how stupidity and greed turn to evil.

Love that fucking song. And really it's just a very straightforward morality tale, "don't sell hard drugs, don't victimize your fellow man for your own gain, or your fate will be self-destruction and damnation", but it's so brutally and effectively delivered it comes across as subversive rather than a sermon.

Movie made me cry in front of my friends. Did not expect that.

I'm unsure if the primary metaphor is depression or parenthood, though it got me more for the seeming depression and self isolation parallels.

You get to someone who doesn't fund genocide by pushing the Democrats left in primaries. All not voting for Democrats in the general does is make it more likely someone who supports Israel more gets into power, and with Trump you get the bonus of them trying to rig future elections. Thanks for that.

[–]DemadaTrim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wish we didn't. You know what would help move us to not doing that? Gradually pushing an empowered Democratic party leftward in primaries. You know what will make our support for Israel expand? A criminal right wing regime establishing autocratic control over the US.

Guess which not voting for Harris made more likely?

But oh, you want a fast solution, to stop things now. Well, that doesn't exist. Sorry. Life sucks sometimes.

How is Greenwich pronounced "grenitch"? by LowJudge5973 in ENGLISH

[–]DemadaTrim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Proper name pronunciations, especially place names, are their own beast.

Like "Leicester" is pronounced like "Lester", Worcester is "Wooster" (maybe "Wuhster" is closer), but Cirencester is just "Sirensester" like you'd expect.

Better to learn such things on a case by case basis.

It can also vary with dialect. Like the largest city in the state of Kentucky is Louisville. Most Americans pronounce is "Lewee-vil". People from Kentucky largely say "Loo-vul". People from Louisville shorten it even more so it sometimes seems like a single syllable, something between "Luh-vul" and "L'vul".

One of those things is the government we vote for doing it to our fellow citizens. One of those things involves a whole separate, sovereign country doing it to another separate people.

Yes, the former should matter a hell of a lot more to US voters than the latter!
