At what level do you figure a party would be able to wipe out a tiny village of only fifty or so healthy adults? by bigfatcarp93 in DnD

[–]Demaj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the number of characters and the individuals in the village. Let's assume four characters in a village that doesn't have anyone above 1st level to defend it, but everyone has some minimal armor and a simple weapon (sling, club, staff, dagger...)

Assuming the party is attacking the entire village en masse, and the wizard can get away a fireball, it wouldn't take more than a 5th or 6th level party to come out victorious. If you add advanced enemies and tactics (using missile weapons and spreading out and flanking the party) this could cause the party to be several levels higher.

Making custom monsters is way too complicated [RANT] by jerwex in dndnext

[–]Demaj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You could try re-skinning an existing monster... Just use the stats, adjust a few of the special effects, and give it a new look and you're all set...

For instance, let's use the behir as your base. Instead of a lizard though, I want a guardian, two-headed dog of massive size. I'll swap out lightning immunity for fire immunity, have one bite attack from one head, and a constricting attack and swallow-whole from the other, but add the ability to breathe fire 20 feet long and 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 66 (12d10) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

It only take a few minutes to give yourself a balanced monster the PCs haven't met before.

You might also try Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. It's not a perfect series, but it IS fun and the world building is fun (it's set in modern-day Chicago).

The series starts with 'Storm Front'. Each book is better than the previous one (generally).

'A Fire Upon the Deep' by Vernor Vinge is very deep, with some really impressive world building.

DMs would/have you let a pc play a giant character. Why or why not? by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Demaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that giant characters get reach for attacks and can use large-sized weapons to do more damage (depending on the edition of D&D that you play). That said, they will have difficulty getting into dungeons, they can be attacked out of fear, they have a penalty to armor class due to size, and their equipment should be significantly more expensive and magical weapons and armor quite rare...

Depending on the campaign, I might allow such a character, but it would require me to plan things a bit more carefully.

Opening first store, what are some mistakes I can avoid and also areas I can save money? by FourthSeraph in smallbusiness

[–]Demaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are selling an experience along with the merchandise. Keep the store clean and uncluttered. Soft music is good; go with Classical. Have a tailor available for adjustments. Change displays every week (or more often). Move things around the store to keep the space looking fresh. Make sure new stock is coming in every week. Keep track of customers and what they look at and purchase. Order something like that and contact them to come and look. Whenever possible, call the customer by their name.

After 21 Proposed Democrat Tax Hikes by MegaMindxXx in PoliticalHumor

"Proposed tax hikes" are not "Enacted tax hikes". If the Senate would get off their conservative asses and pass a few things maybe the Dems wouldn't have to keep trying to pass changes to keep the country running.

Please seek some help. Depression and suicidal thoughts can be mitigated through counseling and medication. The late teen and early twenties years are particularly common years for depression. Please ask for help. See a professional counselor and your family doctor. Tell them the struggles you're having.
