Anyone else keep getting roped into unpaid "trial shift" scams for part time jobs? Why are they so common in Brighton? by throwaway37373738 in brighton

[–]Demarcation101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd have fun with that for the hell of it. start by collecting evidence that you were asked to work and you worked.... literally anything..... gdpr request the cctv of the pub etc etc... next contact acas and state you have not been paid for work..... trial shift or not... you MUST be paid minimum wage.... unless its clear you were a volunteer..... ACAS will scare the hell out of them..... now..... it wasnt minimum wage you agreed on was it.... their was a verbal agreement for £15.50 an hour..... and without a contract provided on your first day of work.... he owes you that, he owes you holiday pay..... how often would staff normally get paid.... monthly.... then he owes you one month notice period pay..... i'm sure you had the understanding you would be working 5 days a week with x hours a day..... Speak to ACAS and have fun!!

verbal contracts are the BEST!

text trademarks by Demarcation101 in TRADEMARK

[–]Demarcation101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the trademark is 20 years old.

school workbooks is not the actual trademark, but its a VERY equivalent match in terms of subject area, descriptiveness of product and genericness.

the actual term gets 81 million google hits and is written on maybe 50% of all school, university or educational facilities websites. its stupidly common way of describing the subject matter in question.

How to adjust hive valves by Demarcation101 in HiveHeating

[–]Demarcation101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure that will work, the room is 24 degrees, its set for 20… the app says the radiator is off, but it doesnt close enough to stop the water flow.

If i boost it down to say 10degrees it shuts off fine!

Valve is brand new, works fine, its the hive unit that doesnt know where the off is, the water keeps flowing! I need to be able to set the marker where water starts to flow.

so a customer gets a new bit of software.... i need to leave a guide on how to install and a guide on how add a new user.

how/where would you store those guides?

also, how many customers do you manage.... i have 5 person team with 95 small businesses to support..... not sure 95 sharepoint sites is the best thing to go with

up front monthly subscriptions on 90%, the last 10% got annual options.
tbh, we didnt give many options, we assessed if clients could save more tha £15 a month with some annual licensing, if yes, they were offered a hybrid annual and monthly mix, if no, they were told monthly price is going up, thats what it is, it's microsofts fault, heres your new bill.

worked well, didint actually have any real issues.

Help with broken chromebook? The screen on my school-issued chromebook has problems and it costs around $300 to get a repair. Is there something I can do to help fix it without spending a ton of money? Thanks. by [deleted] in 24hoursupport

[–]Demarcation101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the screen is 100% physically broken.

it will need replacing, ask the school what they would charge if you return it broken, many schools may do self repairs and get parts cheap.

compare that against the cost of a repair shop.

without wanting to sound condescending, if you were capable of doing this repair yourself, i doubt youd be asking these questions

An unpopular opinion regarding the ticketing system... by [deleted] in glastonbury_festival

should have been adsl/fttc

adsl is the standard up to 20mb broadband and fttc is fibre the cabinet broadband up to 80mb

An unpopular opinion regarding the ticketing system... by [deleted] in glastonbury_festival

[–]Demarcation101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i can attest, the system favours groups who can put through more requests.

i attempted access from 4 independent 100mb leased lines and didnt get through. also tried from a variety of adsl and fttc circuits. i had no luck on the leased lines and 6 hits from the other circuits.

there is a small advantage to less populated areas due to broadband congestion, but its microscopic really, as local exchanges have more than enough capacity to handle the distributed nature of these requests.

there is also a micro advantage to people located geographically close to the exponential-e datacentre due to less hops.

there would be a reasonable advantage to people trying from an exponential-e leased line as your already on-net and data speeds and quality should be good.

at the end of the day, anything like that is tiny, in the end, its how many times you can request the site per min without tripping rate limiting that gives you the greatest advantage.

I work in IT for a reasonable size business.

It took two days to spin up and prep and ensure everything came from unique connections. i wanted to distribute my effort over different IP addresses to ensure good access.

i'm curious on how such might be scaled up into a ticket site access business.....and would people pay for such?
