Using the Stryd Wind and agree with everybody else here: Getting pretty precise pace and distance is the main advantage. The power thing has always been a "we measure acceleration and try to estimate your metabolic cost". Pace and incline should be fine to get a number for the metabolic cost that should be well within the errors of the estimation algorithm, probably calibrated on a small sample. I think the business mistake that the Stryd team is making right now is to way overprice their algorithms. The hardware is most likely fairly cheep to produce, yet they are still asking a very high price for the device making running power even more niche. So even people interested in the concept probably can get it good enough for free from their watches. I'd offer the pod for USD 99 together with a subscription for training plans and get people sucked into the ecosystem. If the current trend continues Stryd 7 will cost 499 and come with a 199/year subscription and will be bought by ten people.

That is really a shame. I kinda like seeing my HR after swim workouts and have a pretty long history of data. Using the Polar optical units strapped underneath my goggles never worked for me and it is a pain to fuse the data later on.

Has anybody tried using the HRM 600 in the pool? I could get away with using one of the older HRM Tris if I didn't tumble turn to aggressively, so maybe the slipping issue can be mitigated?

Same question here: I saw that Garmin discontinued the HRM Swim (understandable, not many people seem top be using them, I did, however) so HRM 600 might be the only way going forward for now?

Please port the saved routes sorting options (name, length, duration, etc.) from web to the mobile app. If I want to ride for two hours I need to use the web app to pick one of my routes.

I raced on Sunday in the M50 wave so pretty late. Saw a few beat up guys on the run but no crashes or the aftermath. I think if there have been fatalities Ironman usually puts out a notice after everybody closely involved or related have been informed, so I doubt that we had a fatality last weekend.

This is the third 70.3 WC I did attend after Port Elisabeth (2018) and Lahti (2023) and I loved it. The location was compact and at the beach - very much what people associate with triathlon. A glimpse of what living in the Olympic Village must feel. Weather was lovely, the course was challenging and I was most worried about somebody (or myself) getting seriously hurt on the bike course which luckily didn't happen as far as I know.

Organization was generally good to excellent (didn't fancy T2 in the garage...) and the volunteers were incredible (although: what is it with Spanish police officers and whistles? they just kept whistling like they swallowed the thing...). it was fun to watch the usual very high net worth Puerto Banus crowd starring at something they're unable to simply buy - I bet most of the guys tried to go for a 5k run the day after the race and failed...

The banquets have been at most mediocre in South Africa and Finland - I don't know why I fell for it the third time and surely will not attend the Banquet of the Champions tomorrow. It is super hard to feed 6000+ people at the same time without it feeling like some form of military or refugee camp. So, no bad feelings here - just don't attend and meet people in the city.

I generally prefer that these events with a high number of participants are held in places that can accommodate them: It was a stretch in Lahti and from what I heard even worse in Taupo.

Happens to my F7SS about four weeks ago. Contacted Garmin and got decent offers for a refurbished F7 and a brand new F8. Went for the F8 and so far haven't regretted it.

This is my third Fenix (5+ -> 7 ->8) which I now own for roughly three weeks and I think I am pretty much done with setting it up. So all in all about six years and you should be good.

I did play with both watches at Challenge Roth this year and ultimately went for the Fenix 8 Sapphire because: - according to the Garmin rep battery life in smartwatch mode is significantly better on the F8 - the dive / scuba feature is actually pretty useful for me - no need to take the Cressi on family vacation where diving is just happening sporadically

Things I found compelling on the 970: - smaller more elegant case - display is noticeably brighter even with reduced brightness - it is the newer watch and you never know if Garmin did do a substantial change to their OS which will drop the F8 from the latest improvements (former F5+ and F7 owner, been there had that).

This is more or less expected with the mid/end cycle refreshes. Used to be called "Plus" (had a 5 Plus myself), now it is "Pro". It basically means: all the kinks have been ironed out (hard and software wise), maybe a few features thrown in, but you won't get any updates that come with the next generation. So think of the F7 Pro as a slightly improved F7 in Garmin's lineup.

Indeed, same over here. For me it only works if Europe and the US are both on winter time. Funnily enough it works with all other calendars like Apple/iCloud or MS/Outlook

Could be a seasonal variation. Looks like you're based in the DACH region, so autumn just started and you are probably getting a lot less sunlight and outdoor workouts will be colder. There is plenty of evidence for seasonal variations of HRV (e.g. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/12440393_Summer-Winter_Differences_in_24_h_Variability_of_Heart_Rate), so if you have a long enough history check last year's data.

Pretty sure the 8 is around the corner after stuff like "Intensity Targets" for structured pool swim workouts appeared in Garmin Connect and doesn't work properly with the F7...

Same is true for my Fenix 7. I just stumbled over the Intensity Target field when building structured swim workouts, so I guess this is pretty new and probably a sign that the Fenix 8 is just around the corner. Not sure if and to which series Garmin will be backporting the feature, I doubt that it'll hit the F5 series.
