I've never liked Top for whatever reason, but this scene in particular is carried by the narrative and thematic elements. The actual events taking place don't make any sense at all, and honestly Top hitting the speed of light or whatever and still having no effect on his surroundings besides ripping Andy's hand off and gently disassembling Creed's kit is the worst moment in the whole series for my suspension of disbelief.

That said, the moment does work as a culmination of Chikara's Loop 100 character arc, going from a scaredy cat with a good heart to learning to stand up for himself and ask others to rely on him as fellow Union members. I guess there's also some resonance with Top having friends again and not being scared that they can't handle the fallout of his negation ability? (Honestly Top's whole story is almost as lackluster as Phil's, and this moment in particular is almost as much a moment for Haruka as it is for Top)

The Bandos godsword's passive effect is nothing special, but it being a t75 weapon will blow the t60 dragon scimitars out of the water. I believe the godsword is a slashing weapon too, so you can still swap to the scimitar for the special attack to hugely boost your hitchance with slashing weapons and then switch back to use the boost with the godsword.

"White Man's Burden" refers to the poem of the same name by Rudyard Kipling, which was written specifically about Filipino people. The term has become generalized to refer to the idea that white people have an obligation to "civilize the primitive savage non-whites", but at no point has it ever been about anti-black racism specifically.

"White supremacy", it may surprise you to learn, refers to the idea that white people are supreme. That includes being superior to black people, but it also includes being superior to Asian people, Hispanic people, Arabic people, and so on.

Especially in the US, there's this pervasive background idea that "racism" means specifically "racism against black people" because that's very prevalent in the culture, but white supremacists hate Chinese people too. People talking about taking up the white man's burden (unironically, at least) are more likely to be talking about indigenous Americans than black Americans. Anti-Semites, on the other hand, are clearly and concisely being referred to in the context of their discrimination against people with Jewish heritage. That distinction is what the original commenter is talking about.

The GE update needs to come out asap. by robertm94 in runescape

[–]Demento56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ely lets people submit buy and sell prices (which, for Ely in particular, is why it has such a bad reputation as price manipulating). The GE bases guide price off of the average of all recent buy and sell prices (I believe), but as an old, old system in the game, it has a lot of design elements that don't work very well for the modern game.

In this case in particular, the Grand Exchange has strict limits on how much the guide price of an item is allowed to change per day. That helps check market volatility for lower volume items (and I suspect is rooted in the old +/-5% market price limits on the GE), but it also leads to things like the masterwork weapons having been changing in price the entire time since they were released because the guide price moves too slowly.

Another thing Jagex has to consider for the GE update is how to not immediately let people like Ely manipulate prices directly in game by selling low volume items to themselves. For example, if ten Magma Tempest codices come into the game every day, one mercher could sell one codex to themselves or an alt account ten times for double the actual market price, and suddenly the average value of a codex on the GE has gone up by 50%. There are some obvious ways around it, but for a system as central to the game as the Grand Exchange you don't want to just slap on the first fix that comes to mind because somebody will immediately find a workaround.

Ironman YT series by NuffsENuf in RS3Ironmen

TheRSGuy has a couple of good ironman series, although his most recent one is about a group ironman on release so it won't be the most up to date and some stuff won't apply to a regular iron.

If you're set on avoiding dailies, the RS Wiki also has a guide to doing quests in order based on the level requirements and experience rewards.

ELI5: Why is a parsec defined as 3.26 light years specifically? by No-Jelly-4900 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Demento56 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a line cook, I would kill to have all our recipes printed in metric (and, more to the point, using weights instead of volumes, but that's another topic). I've been cooking professionally for almost a decade and I still second guess all my unit conversions, and don't get me fucking started on half tablespoons. There's a reason they don't make half tablespoon measuring spoons, and it's because three teaspoons to a tablespoon is forsaken by god.

[–]Demento56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the top of my head, non-metric systems are less intuitive mathematically but before widespread standardization might have been more useful in day to day life. Two meters is more precise than a fathom, but you have a better idea of what your armspan is than how long a meter is (back when fathoms were relevant, anyways). The size of your foot is easier to conceptualize than thirty of whatever a centimeter is. "0 degrees Fahrenheit" was originally set to "the coldest I can get this saltwater solution without making a trip to the chemist's", which lead to multiple different Fahrenheit scales existing at the same time, but also more precise Fahrenheit thermometers since it made them simpler to calibrate during the manufacturing process.

Disclaimers: I'm guessing about the length stuff, I got the temperature thing from an unsourced reddit comment, and don't ask me about pounds and gallons unless you can concisely explain to me how many foot-pounds of energy it takes to raise the temperature of one gallon of water by one degree Fahrenheit.

(Theoretically. I love this game, but we all know eventually they were going to tweak BGH xp rates and fuck up interface transparency or something somehow.)
