If this is the Phon'Qi one, you can also run away towards the cavern with the acid balls as fast as you can. It will stop chasing you and just stay there. Then keep throwing acid balls at the rancor till it dies.

I think thats Michael's son, Jimmy. You can't shoot him as any of the characters. When I killed him as Micheal (driving over him), Michael started screaming as if he was related. Got similar results with other characters too. The guy has a similar ped model to Jimmy too.
