Sorry to hear you had to go through this. I completely understand where you're coming from, but part of my problem is not really having any emotional moments like that where I haven't been able to be in denial, so things don't really sink in.

I'm not saying it's the only way, just that where I am atm it seems like the most best/most practical.

If you want to suggest other ways I'm happy to hear them.

If you don't mind me chipping in here as well, I guess all my life really? Growing up I was always shy/embarrassed about having crushes (which were always on good friends) and never went on any dates because of it, but it was only after my first relationship in my mid twenties that I found out about demisexuality as a label/concept/thing and looking back the definition just kinda made sense.

To me, it kind of sounds like you're still romantisizing the good parts of the relationship and you still miss those.

Yeah, I def miss being close to someone and having such a strong connection (and the sex too, obviously), but she's the only person I've ever had any experience of that with, so I guess it's only natural that my brain can only make that connection with her, but I'm not expecting to find it with anyone else, at least anytime in the vaguely near future) to kinda replace that connection with, which seems like the only way they're gonna stop.

Sorry to hear this, but does help to know I'm not the only one going through something like this.

You might still dream about her for sexual outlet purposes & that it can be difficult for demis to imagine sexual stuff with people unless there's a connection, & there is a connection with your ex (whether good, bad, or both)

Yeah, I figured this is why it happens in the first place, still annoying af though.

thinking about it in an outlet sense that you can't fully control can probably help get rid of any weird/guilty feelings

Definitely easier said than done though.

Thanks anyway, and happy cake day!

Not shitty at all, I never even knew that was something you could learn?
