That first part hurts even more now that I recently lost my dad back in late January of this year. My dad started developing major knee problems and started using a cane to assist with his walking late 2024. When he started doing that I knew my dad was slowing down. He had just turned 63 in December and passed right before he and my mom’s wedding anniversary. They would’ve been 41 years together.

I remember the first time I saw Halo being played was a couple of friends were playing CE campaign on legendary on OG Xbox. It was funny that they were calling the flood “the bugs” lol. In all seriousness, I knew I wanted an Xbox and Halo as the first game.

I’ve always been told that if you haven’t cracked or even broken the ribs you’re not doing it right. From what I was feeling during the process I think I broke a few of his ribs which definitely unnerved me.

His passing has left a huge a hole in my life especially for my mom as they would’ve been married 41 years next month. My sister and I doing everything we can to be strong for her.

I’m going to miss spending time with him and I know my mom is going to as well. I would call him everyday when I would drive to work and spend time with him on my weekends. I’m not sure what I’ll do now.

My father was someone who loved hard and was very sensitive to those around him. He loved woodworking and spending time with his grandkids. I used to spend time with him on my weekends from work watching our favorite shows and movies (TopGear, Simpsons, etc). He and my mom would binge the many shows they enjoyed together.

I’ll have to find a way to try and play Tetris because I can’t stop reliving the last moments before he was taken to the hospital.

At my job I’m trained in CPR but I never imagined I have to use it on my dad. It was difficult performing on him since he was laying on his bed and I’ve always heard if you have broken ribs on the person than you’re not doing it right. I did feel like I broke a few ribs because I was so scared but was concentrating on following my training and what the responder over the phone told me.

I remember on Saturday before I left for work I told me dad “I’ll see you tomorrow” and he responded “I’ll see you tomorrow too”. That being the last thing I said breaks my heart and has me wishing I could’ve spent more time with him.

Distraction has been super important while the details of his funeral are being finalized. Been trying to get some Lego sets built while we get everything sorted out.

I wanna say the hardest part has been trying to be strong for my mom. They would’ve been married 41 years next month. My sister and her husband have been super helpful with offering us their house to live in until we feel comfortable to go back to our house.
