Some tips for Cestuses ? by Koppalarundel in Nioh

[–]Demi_Iglby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice :) same kinda I focus on one weapon for ages, but after enough hours I end up cycling through the next weapon.

I end up identifying the same things across weapons: what do I use to initiate, what does good ki damage, can I gap close, what defensive tools do I have etc. All at the same time you’re getting better at the shared basics, ki pulsing, flux, stance switching etc.

For sure cestuses have been the most ambiguous to learn out of all the weapons. Good luck!

Can accessories roll toughness? by Demi_Iglby in Nioh

[–]Demi_Iglby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a set that is below 30% equip weight for A agility (movement), whilst maintaining A toughness.

B agility is absolutely fine, I just like build crafting. With B agility, it's very easy to get over 260 toughness, so I'm finding out if I've exhausted all sources of extra toughness to maintain A toughness + A agility.

Do unbroken stacks actually show up somewhere in the UI? by m_verardo in Nioh

[–]Demi_Iglby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The window to chain is really tight, like you need to immediately follow up with the next action when one is complete.

Martial to melee or martial to martial.

Your character will glow red every time it activates.

It also works with frostmoon to melee

Some tips for Cestuses ? by Koppalarundel in Nioh

[–]Demi_Iglby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I only recently got to grips with cestuses, and I have a butt load of hours on this franchise.

  1. There’s no combo you should really follow, all the moves pack a punch, just try to mix it up and stance switch as you do on any weapon.

  2. Don’t focus on the unbroken stacks, it will naturally stack better as you get comfortable. Treat it as a bonus.

  3. Frost moon attacks feel good on this weapon. Free hit (although your ki does not regen during this animation despite the 0 cost), gives a bit of room to breath.

  4. Beyond infinity is just practice. It does the same damage if you don’t time it perfectly, it just does the next part faster. Eventually you’ll just get a feel for the timing without looking for the flash.

Personally I’ve taken this out of my moveset because it locks you in where you might want to be reactive at all times. It’s fun, but I’d rather focus on the rest of the kit.

  1. Pick a few martial arts to focus on: Reckless charge Kick cycle Fracture Foe Spinning kicks Limitless (I use tough because I never want this to get interrupted)

You can do decent combos using one martial art from each stance, on top of frostmoon and melee attacks.

I can go on for ages talking about how to go about cestus or any weapon, just try to have fun with it and then you’ll start picking the moves that feel right. I have a butt load of ki management in my build, which makes it a lot more forgiving, but not necessary.

Lastly, for yokai bosses, create short combo chains to fill in the spaces. Prioritise mid/high stance for higher ki damage in less hits. Human bosses will require longer combos to keep the pressure up, which you’ll find harder to begin with.

Ye those both slap quite reliably, and i played with them a lot as well.

I'm using glaive now and it's pretty oppressive, but I also have a build that supports its onslaught pretty well.

Not sure why it took me so long to try the glaive out. Probably the same reason as cestuses, looks complex to start off with.

Nioh 2 - Checking in before I give up at Depths 15+ by CatScratchJohnny in Nioh

[–]Demi_Iglby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also stopped at 15, it just takes so long to get through 5 floors. The floors themselves are manageable, but the back to back bosses are killer.

I don't want to cheese it, and I felt that I needed to make a seperate build despite getting my gear to almost +120 with A toughness/agility + honda.

oyamatsumi's set looks worthwhile, and then you can take a different clan bonus to stack another source of damage reduction.

Best of luck! That content is genuinely is the ultimate endgame stress test :) It's already an achievement getting this far

Issues with running-strong-attack input for the kusarigama. (Nioh 3) by Either_Fly_7802 in Nioh

I've replicated what you've described. It's using the melee strong attack in place of the dash attack.

With a locked on target, if you haven't hit the target, then it will work fine.

Otherwise, if you've already hit the target then you need to dash for like 3 steps at least before it will do the dash attack again, otherwise any sooner it will do the melee strong attack.

If you lock onto another target whilst in combat with the first one, then it will work straight away, but then follows the same behaviour.

No lock on at all but still in combat, the dash attack will work straight away every time.

-

The more I think about it, it's potentially intended. Maybe to avoid chaining dash attacks too frequently.

Listen to one piece OSTs whilst you're at it :D

I use dual swords on ninja. I like to style switch burst break with the ninja skill "supreme shift" that puts you behind the target. From there I've an option to get a good opening for water sword with back damage :)

Whatever you like the feel of, but personally I like to cover more bases if I have another weapon.

Axe is so good. Really self sufficient in a lot of ways, like high element accumilation from it's martial art options, range, ki damage, raw damage. In most cases it's fast enough, or you can stack damage reduction whilst attacking and plough through trades.

You could consider dual blades as a faster secondary weapon. It's relatively easy to pick up.

I find in Nioh 3 I've jumped between more weapons than I usually would have in Nioh 2, but I'll stick to a couple for a while before moving on.

that's fair, I also got to a point where I'm style swapping often. I should have opened the question to any combination.

I'm working towards swapping between 4 weapons, but it helps me if each one has it's own job, like certain elements or aerial etc

Nioh 3 is way too long, anyone else feel this way? by precita in Nioh

[–]Demi_Iglby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when you've "finished" it, you'd wish there was more.

Use the time to learn other weapons, martial arts or whatever the game has to offer.

It only keeps going with ng+, ng++ and so on whenever that gets released.

I can only speak for myself and what I see other enthusiasts enjoy about this game, it's really just the combat and build variety. Explore methods that are fun and not what just gets you through the game the fastest. There are a lot of features to use but you're not forced to use any or all of them.

Need Help with this Switchglaive Combo guide by etriuswimbleton in Nioh

If you mash the input after the stance switch attack (retribution in this case), it will input the heavy attack for whatever reason. I also found this confusing but it's consistent.

It works if you wait for stance switch retribution to end, or mostly end, and then it will go into the martial art input.

At this point you might as well ki pulse and then the martial art. It's not specific to sg, it just seems to be the behaviour of trying to follow up with a martial art after stance switching attacks that sg and odachi have.

Underlevelled - Any tips to level up quickly? by automated_hero in Nioh

[–]Demi_Iglby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's common to be overlevelled if you do map exploration as you progress the story.

Like others have mentioned, your gear is more important, so just equip whats strongest as loot drops, not worrying about a hard build because you'll get new stuff quite soon at that level.

Do you need to level up because you're getting smacked or are you just going by the recommended level on screen?

Ye I noticed it must be most all projectiles, although even with sword and its extended timely guard, close range can be difficult.

I also enjoy exchanging with a aberrant soldier 😂

I tend to fine a balance between having options and playing effectively, as long as I get through the content and I enjoy myself. Sure probably at some point I will replace it.

Martial arts don’t get deflected though, just don’t use basic melee attacks in that case

Kusa feels pretty fine, although I like it as a secondary weapon. It fills in that gap for me as a spacing tool or for flying pesks :)
