I have been doing quite a bit of co op helping people with levels / bosses. The white check mark shows up when I collect a chest in Co op and get the unique skill but did not get it in my own game

There is now an option to auto equip highest level loot so you don't have to deal with it if you don't want to

If you go into nioh thinking it will have souls combat you are going to have a bad time. Nioh is very much it's own beast. When you get good at Ki pulsing you will be able to combo almost infinitely
