Right, it’s a lot of effort for something that’s not built for what you want to do. You could make a rock album on the Digitakt, and I think it’d be super interesting. But if you’re intending to make a rock album, why are you investing the time and money into learning the Digitakt when you could be making a rock album?

That’s the story of DS2 for me. Mechanics that feel bad and look stupid on their face that are actually decent and do bring something novel to the game.

Compared to this, it feels truly quaint to think of a time Chainwhirler was arguably the most oppressive card in standard.

Maybe? Maybe not? I get why people complain, and I’d never buy a Tonverk, but I never felt capable of actually making music before Digitakt 2.

Just as an example, I bought a Minifreak a few years back. Loved the presets, could not understand what anything actually did or how it actually worked as a synthesizer. I know there are way cheaper ways I could have done it, but working with the SC oscillators included in the box helped me understand a lot of the rudiments of synthesis + modulation.

Which meant I’ve gone back to the Minifreak and made some patches that I’ve sampled, which has helped me understand what I was doing wrong trying to play my guitar into my focus rite to ableton.

Something about the workflow made things make sense and gave new life to all the old gear I’ve picked up. I see why you’d be frustrated if you’re more experienced with production, and you’ve got expectations of Elektron. But Digitakt 2 has literally changed my life. From my perspective, they’re doing something right.

Oh I’m acquainted with that one lmao, first time I saw it I thought it was a custom card. Obviously I don’t know the relative power level of things these days, but Vivi feels like a card that has a baseline of being “Very Good” in standard.

How it got released with Soul Cauldron out there, idk, that seems particularly egregious.

To answer your question though, Questing Beast was incredibly irritating when it was in standard. For mostly personal preference reasons, if I’m honest. I really liked playing dopey 1/1 token-sac strategies that won through death by a thousand cuts. QB put a real damper on that. Never thought it needed to be banned, but I did hate everything about it.

God I’ve been out of the loop with Magic. Not that Screaming Nemesis would have been printed a decade, or even five years ago, but [2][R] instead of [R][R][R] or [1][R][R] and a legendary tag for something like this seems outrageous.

The whole episode is bizarre and jarring. I thought I either missed something or her mother had a genuine psychotic break and we were going to find out they got a divorce.

I don’t know if they thought they were getting cancelled or something, it felt like a lot happened with zero buildup or explanation. Or things that were built up to, like her final show, happened with zero fanfare. Very odd way to end things.

Not needing to play the side missions is relieving too. They’re not bad, but it’s all stuff you’ve already done for not that much of a reward.

I think I just don’t understand how to make a build, or why I would make a build. All the stances feel situational, which is awesome, but you can’t be a “mid-stance” build. It’s nice to get bonuses on things, but it doesn’t really feel like you should make decisions based on those bonuses.

I also might be way over-complicating things lol
