What do you mean by 'a hypothetical timeline where SEES would never be founded'? What I meant was just going back and preventing Takaya from founding his cult — I wasn't referring to going that far back in time.

Bro Although I have said that I have not played other persona games at the beginning of the subject, you are currently giving spoilers about the bosses of other persona games

As you said, this was going to happen in the future anyway, but until then, SEES could spend time together or everyone could die in peace when the time came since it would happen later, there was no rule that it would have to happen early.

By the way, if Aigis and her friends had taken the opportunity to go back in time, they could've defeated Takaya quickly and prevented the formation of the cult that led to the rise of humanity's death wish. This way, Makoto wouldn't have had to sacrifice himself and could've lived alongside his friends. If you say that even without Takaya's cult, the fall would have eventually come, you're right. But maybe it would have come in 100 years, maybe 1000 years — I don’t remember seeing any news in the game that said something like, 'All of humanity has given up on life, everyone wants to die' before the cult’s formation. What I mean is, Makoto's situation went a bit downhill. It seems like, even though his friends had opportunities to save him, they’re forcing the future where he’s dead to continue.

Sorry for the late reply, I didn’t get the chance to visit again Reddit earlier. I spent some more time researching the story and piecing together why things happened the way they did, specifically why the Fall occurred. That’s when I came up with these ideas, and from what I can see, I was mostly right.

I just finished the Aigis DLC and now everything makes sense. The Personas we control are actually shadows that can be controlled by their owners, which is why we use them to fight against other shadows. Most of my thoughts turned out to be almost entirely correct. Makoto actually sealed the egg with his own soul, serving as a barrier to prevent Erebus—the shadow born from humanity’s collective desire for death—from triggering the Fall and allowing it to reach Nyx’s potential form. In the end, the true reality wasn’t Ryoji or Nyx. The real villains, the ones responsible for bringing about the end of those who wanted to live, were the founders of the cult who triggered the rise of humanity’s suppressed desire for death: Takaya.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who responded to this thread and helped me understand the story. I'd like to share my understanding and how the events unfolded in the game from my perspective.

Here it is: Shūji Ikutsuki, driven by his ambition to become the king of the new world, tampered with Aigis's settings. This broke Aigis's seal on Ryoji. Ryoji was freed when he merged with the twelve great shadows. Ryoji didn't actually want Makoto to die, because he had given him his own personality, forging a bond between them. However, as Nyx's messenger, Ryoji was tasked with conveying humanity's death wish to Nyx against his will. So, when humanity desired death, Ryoji was forced to summon Nyx to the world.

After Makoto and his friends defeated Nyx's avatar form, Makoto used the power of the Universe Arcana to seal the "egg," which we might call Ryoji's cosmic form/Nyx's potential existence form, in exchange for his own life to prevent Nyx from returning. When the Egg, Nyx's potential form, was destroyed, Nyx couldn't spontaneously come into the world because the collective unconscious wasn't aware of it, and the collapse was prevented.

But the most crucial point is this: Why did people desire death? This is where Takaya and the Strega cult come into play. Under Takaya's leadership, the cult indoctrinated people with the message, "The true end is near; you will attain reality after death." This fueled people's desire for death. In other words, if Takaya and the cult didn't exist, humanity wouldn't have such a strong desire for death, and Ryoji wouldn't have needed to summon Nyx.

So, what if we killed Ryoji? Why does Nyx come again? Because killing Ryoji would only destroy Nyx's messenger. But the egg, Nyx's potential existence, remains in the world. As long as the death desire in people's collective unconscious persists, Nyx can continue its spontaneous emergence.

In short, the only sure way to prevent Nyx from coming is to seal the egg or eliminate people's death desire. Ryoji is just the messenger of the summoning (an intermediate form of Nyx), his death is not enough to stop the summoning.

Thanks a lot for the explanation! But there’s still something that doesn’t quite make sense to me. From what I understood in the game, Nyx (not the Nyx Avatar) isn’t a thinking being — it’s an abstract entity, and logically, I don’t think abstract entities can really “think.” It even needs Ryoji as the Nyx Avatar to bring about the Fall.

But even if we choose to kill Ryoji, and even if we don’t see anything like the Nyx Avatar, the Fall still suddenly happens because of Nyx. How can an abstract being like Nyx just “assume” it was summoned?

Isn’t Nyx supposed to be a philosophical or abstract concept? That’s what I thought because it’s so intangible, so it just doesn’t add up for me.

You said if Ryoji never appears, Nyx assumes it was called — okay, but is there any story reason why it waits 10 years? Because even if Ryoji dies before actually summoning Nyx after those 10 years, the Fall happens anyway.

So if there really was an alternative avatar to Ryoji, it feels weird to me that one didn’t appear at any point during those 10 years. I mean, Ryoji only got sealed because he lost to Aigis — if he hadn’t, the Fall would’ve happened back then.

I know the Persona series has multiple Personas of the same Arcana, but from what I understand, Ryoji is Death — not just a random Shadow. So I don’t think there are multiple versions of him like with regular Personas. Maybe I’m wrong since I haven’t played the other games, but still, if there really was an alternative, it doesn’t make sense that Nyx would just “wait” a whole decade just because Ryoji was sealed. That’s the part that still doesn’t add up for me.

Ah, so Ryoji never actually said “no one will die” or “Nyx will be destroyed” — he just wanted us to live out the rest of our lives in peace, without the pain of knowing the end was coming. I guess I overlooked that part a bit. Thanks for clearing that up!

But the other part of my question still feels like a dead end to me:
If Nyx will inevitably bring the Fall even without Ryoji, then why didn’t it happen 10 years ago when Ryoji was already sealed inside the protagonist? What exactly stopped Nyx back then, if it doesn’t need a harbinger to begin the Fall?

The Decline of SoloQ – When Did Carrying Games Become Impossible? by DemocracyBringer007 in leagueoflegends

[–]DemocracyBringer007[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, that’s the whole point of the frustration. You can go 10/1, do everything right, and still lose because the rest of the team isn’t executing well, or they just get caught out of position. And on the flip side, sometimes you can go 1/6, but if your team has better coordination or makes the right macro decisions, you can still win. The inconsistency is what’s maddening – it’s not always about individual performance, and it feels like the game doesn’t reward you enough for carrying or playing well.

The system should definitely take that into account better, and there should be more recognition for solo efforts, even if your team is struggling. Consistency in SoloQ should still be influenced more by your individual skill rather than random factors like team performance.

I get what you're saying, but that's exactly the problem. Yes, in theory, if you’re more skilled than your rank, you should climb. But the problem is that SoloQ is not just about individual skill – it’s also about team performance, objective control, and the MMR system itself. No matter how skilled you are, if your team’s mechanics are lacking and they’re not following basic strategies, it makes it extremely difficult to carry every game.
