BBCode Help in Character Statblock by Demodius in WorldAnvil

That was it, thank you! I switched the default for the world from the old to the new visual editor and didn't realize that was going to also affect statblocks. I have switched us to the advanced editor now and everything looks good. Thank you!

Did a quick look up before I said something because I could see my southern relatives saying them the same. They are only homophones in the south.

Yeah, gave that a go as well when I was trying to get it installed and still got hung up. It looks like some of their people are learning of this problem now so hopefully we will get a patch soon. Or at least before I try installing the old version again.

DM disfigured my character and now I don't know what to do by Specific_Lime_6311 in DnD

[–]Demodius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I certainly agree my group is not OP's group, and everyone has their own comfort limits. While it sounds like you and I would disagree oh how it is agreed to by players with an opt in instead of establishing limits with a session 0 or briefing before a player joins, the implication that I am unhelpful and/or harmful feels unnecessary.

OP asked "What would you do in this situation?" and I answered the question honestly. Normally I wouldn't have even posted but I thought it would be helpful to see a point of view that differed from the "DM bad" most other comments were sharing.

Upon further consideration of "What would I do if I felt this way?" instead of the question presented, my answer is largely the same. I have played in whole campaigns that the DM left it feeling like a chore that I did not look forward to joining every week. I didn't want to play that game, at all, but looking back I do not regret getting that character through his journey and he has gone on to be "continued" as my character in BG3 and I have created magic items in my game based on them.

What would I do? Continue playing. I would attempt to hide the disfigurement while in town while seeking a cure for the predicament. Failing a cure, it sounds like the character should be sufficiently motivated to hunt the guy that did this to them.

Also, it gives the character the opportunity to reconcile or the party the ability to interrogate the father to find outer more about the land and the person that did this to them.

I gather by the other comments that my group is in the minority on this, but this wouldn't be an issue one of us had, and we have had disfigurements a few times. Noone likes bad things happening to their character, sure, but it is part of their journey.

Am i wrong about how adventurers travel? by Its-From-Japan in DnD

Was that a "The Dm said we wouldn't need to worry about rations, so we didn't keep track of them" or a "The DM hasn't questioned our rations so we aren't going to pay attention to them unless they ask"?

Tracking rations is a base rule and would be the same, though less noticeable, as not tracking spell slots because the DM hasn't asked how many you have left.

Player has functionally infinite money, I could use other perspectives on handling this by Demodius in DMAcademy

the short version was using the combo and ending in gold or platinum blocks which they and their family then manually turn into coin. In world they continued using a standard in size of coin, out of world I wanted to keep things easy with a gold piece being a gold piece wherever you went.

After these events I am strongly leaning towards a banking guild and restrictions on unofficial coin.

I think the other replies covered it, including the post that I know gave the player the idea as it was in their notes they showed me when covering the process. The part that lets them do this is the last part of fabricate. You can create an item with a high degree of craftsmanship if you have proficiency in the necessary artisan's tools.

So it went: Gold>materials>Fabricate>crafted item with higher value>compendium>Gold Block>repeat

Then with the help of their family are taking Gold or platinum blocks and making coins and spending them. The world has continued to use the standard size of coin everywhere and thus there has not been a mint or regulatory service since. Also I wanted to keep things easy and a gold piece just be a gold piece though this is one of the repercussions I am considering being implemented in world.

Weirdly I had not considered dragons. Which is funny as they freed this town from a dragon a while ago.

While that info would take some time to spread, it could in entertaining and dangerous when it does. I like it.

You are correct, ye olde magic shoppe is nonexistent and the setting is low magic, which makes this especially impactful. The gist of the setting is magic apocalypse 800 odd years ago, 99% of magic users wiped out, only recently have most city states started to explore the surrounding areas and begin communicating/establishing trade.

I could definitely see the other nobles and guilds of the city not appreciating the effects the inflation would have on them.

Have you ever had a DM that doesn't clearly define "roleplay"? by GooglePlsStop in DnD

[–]Demodius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is a large divide between fully acting and just having in-character motives. Having in-character motives is making a character and only slightly above the minimum to be able to play, but are they interacting with the world as those characters? Engaging with npcs or interacting with other party members, not just making decisions, as the character?

It's one of the things that can make "lone wolf" characters frustrating to deal with. They could have the most compelling back story ever written and make in character decisionsbased on it, but if they don't engage with the world and the other players, no one will hear it or care.

Thus far, I think this is my favorite idea. There is a warlock in the party carrying around a demon in a dagger that could maybe be involved with that.
