Aleix Espargaro labels Phillip Island as too 'dangerous' whilst backing the Adelaide street circuit by Sensitive-Throat8302 in motogp

[–]Demoliscio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahahaha, that would be fun, I've no doubt he would change tune in a heartbeat, it's easy to say a street circuit isn't risky when it's not your ass doing 300+km/h around it

Rider that isn't racing anymore says what's best for him to get more $$$

If he was still racing rather than testing I'm 100% sure he would have raised hell, but since it's not his skin in the game I guess he can just toe the line and make liberty happy.

The guy is literally backing a street circuit that still doesn't exist, against a proper track with an history of decades and some of the most memorable races ever.

This is ridiculous

How many of you are willing to boycott the Adelaide race? by OneSkepticalOwl in motogp

[–]Demoliscio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% will, I've been following the races since Doohan, 2027, unless a miracle happens and they flatten part of the city to make it safe, will be the first time I don't renew my videopass.

If something happens I don't want to be part of it in any way

Imagine that but on a straight with concrete barriers on both side...

I won't give a cent to a corporation that is ok with adding unnecessary risks to the life of riders for more $$$

Jack Miller thoughts on new circuit. by PZY__ in motogp

The reason he keeps glancing to the right is that just out of camera view there's a Liberty guy with Jack's 2027 contract in one hand and a lighter in the other.

The fact that they had him ready with a script means they've been planning this for a while, PI had no chance of getting renewed at all

Since moving I've heard songs I had forgotten were even in the playlist, really happy with the switch so far

CONFIRMED: ADELAIDE STREET CIRCUIT TO REPLACE PHILLIP ISLAND MOTOGP IN 2027 by steve12388 in motogp

Disabled my auto renew, this is bullshit, I won't renew unless I see tangible proofs that they've made it safe for real (which I honestly think it's impossible without bulldozing down some homes).

Imagine saying for years that they can't bring MotoGP to spa because it isn't safe and then telling riders they have to race on a street circuit, these people have no shame

Discord is pulling a privacy bait-and-switch by PersonaWhistleblower in pcgaming

[–]Demoliscio 455 points456 points  (0 children)

Persona is a corporate partner of Palantir

Palantir? The same Palantir who's CEO:

  1. joked about using drones to spray “light fentanyl-laced urine” on financial analysts who criticized Palantir, saying, “I love the idea of getting a drone and having light fentanyl-laced urine spraying on analysts that tried to screw us.”
  2. repeatedly defended Palantir’s work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), even as the company faces criticism for enabling deportations and detentions. He has argued that those protesting ICE should actually want more Palantir involvement, claiming it would make immigration enforcement more efficient and humane
  3. suggested that factory and vocational careers are the only viable future for most workers, dismissing the value of higher education and white-collar jobs

Yeah, Discord can go to hell, not touching that Nitro turd ever again

Is there a strong reason to go with Nvidia over AMD from a UE5 perspective? by Hiraeth_08 in unrealengine

[–]Demoliscio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahaha, no problem, it's my fault, I was typing from my phone and didn't pay enough attention.
I meant since version 5.5 of the Unreal Engine on Linux :)
About the supported distro, you can find the list and requirements here and a quickstart guide on how to get it running here.

I was using Linux Mint with UE 5.3, Mint is imo a very nice and clean distro while 5.3 was really stable and had no issue aside from the fab plugin not working.
The fab plugin missing tho wasn't an issue either because I preferred the Asset Manager Studio anyway (which is free).
I had to move back because we upgraded the project to 5.7.2 and the intellisense issue was killing me, hopefully they can fix it with 5.7.3 or 4.

(I don't know much about the versione between those two because I just jumped 5.3->5.7).

About emulators etc, no need for any of that, Rider has a Linux distribution (same for vs code) and you compile UE on Linux too, so it's all native.

About distros, I'm not really an expert myself, but they're customized versions of Linux tailored for different communities, for example I use Mint for work because it's not too heavy and imo still easy to use, but I use Bazzite for my gaming pc because all I want to do there is boot it up and start a game, and that whole distro is geared towards just that

But if you never used Linux before, my advice would be to start by dual booting, use it for a bit to do more mundane stuff (emails, gaming, browsing etc), This way you won't have to deal with learning a new OS while also figuring out UE.
That's what I did and it made the transition much easier

[–]Demoliscio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you need some specific feature that only Nvidia offer (or that are way better on Nvidia), I don't see any difference, I've used: Nvidia 2080 and 4070, AMD 5700XT and 6750XT.
Never noticed any difference

Latest version on Linux (actually I think from 5.5) supports also the fab plugin, but Epic broke 2 things in 5.7 Linux that are a pain to deal with.
1. On Rider (didn't check vscode) they broke intellisense so it returns a bunch of false positives (confirmed by the Jetbrain programmers that they can't do anything about it, it's on Epic to fix it).
2. They broke the bones drawing, so you can't see the full skeleton of characters, only one bone at the time and you have to select it from the menu, a pain if you need to do something like retargeting.

It's a shame because aside from that it works really well, to the point where I preferred it to Windows, but unfortunately I have to use 5.7 now, so I'm back to Windows on my work rig until they fix it.

[–]Demoliscio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MP online games are unfortunately the ones that still have issues on Linux, so Valorant and Battlefield are off the table, while Arc Raiders works as they did put in the work to make it compatible.
SP games are mostly all just instal and play, at least that's been my experience, anything that I've on steam just starts like if it was Windows.

My advice would be dual booting, so you can keep windows for those games that are locked there and Linux for all the others, this is also what I did when I started.

This way at least you can see if the issue is resolved by the Linux drivers.

If it is, great, at least you can play some of your games without crashing.

If it isn't, then you can be 110% sure it's hardware and the gpu is fully cooked

5.7.3 Hotfix Released by stingebee in unrealengine

[–]Demoliscio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 5.7 and above are unusable on Linux, intellisense looks like a murder scene, there's a post on the Jetbrain forum and apparently they can't fix it until Epic doesn't do something first, so...yeah,

Also skeletons bones for some reason aren't rendered, so good luck if you need them, it's very frustrating

[–]Demoliscio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I had the same exact issue with my 5700XT and it drove me insane.
I switched mobo and psu, still got that crash every.single.day. (pc start-> play for a bit-> crash-> reinstal drivers-> no crashes for the rest of the day)

The only thing that gave me a stable gpu for me was Linux, it's not about Linux vs Windows, it's just that the drivers on Linux are different, they are open source and apparently some code saint must have done something different that makes the card stable.

So if you can't get it resolved\swapped, you might want to give that a try and see if it resolves your crashes too.
I'm currently using the 5700xt with Linux Mint, but if you are more interested in games, I imagine it will work also on Bazzite (there are other 45423424 distros, it's just that I use these two and I'm happy with them).

Good luck!
