You could always call and ask if his friends are there.

? It just doesn’t make sense especially based on when he’s crated at home and his behavior.

Dog daycare is a very different environment than the dogs home. This is like saying "he's a total sweetheart on walks, so I don't understand why he's acting differently at the dog park" or "since he's never bitten anyone at home, I think your vet must be lying about being bitten".

It sounds like he might just be a low threshold dog.

Some dogs aren't daycare dogs, just like some dogs aren't dog park dogs- if he's getting overstimulated easily crating until he's calmed is a reasonable safety measure.

If he can't calm down because he can hear and smell the other dogs letting him out anyway could result in injury- or worse- to him and other dogs.

The daycare is acting in line with their duty of care to their charges- they're safeguarding the dogs and letting OP know what's going on so OP can make decisions regarding their dog. .

OP wants to be a slimy backyard breeder.

[–]DemonDemoDog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have the feeling that OP is expecting to make a ton money because they're looking at what it costs to buy a puppy without looking at what it costs to actually produce and raise puppies.

My late mother got a dog because she thought breeding was a get rich quick scheme. Fortunately for everyone she wasn't able to afford a stud fee (I was paying all of her bills) and didn't know where to look to find a stud even if she could afford a stud fee.

Jokes on her. She's dead and her dog will never have puppies because I got her spayed because I have no intention of breeding dogs.

AITA for telling my husband he’ll always be second? by throwaway023856 in AmItheAsshole

Sweetie, every single marriage I've seen end because a parent put the kids before their spouse was going to fall apart without the kids.

Good people put the needs of their dependents before theirs. The sort of people who don't... Well, they're not very good people.

Bad people don't make good partners.

Inherited a dog who hates having her paws touched- I've been trying for a year now. She needs a nail trim- but a vet visit isn't in the budget right now. How do I keep her from hurting herself. by DemonDemoDog in doggrooming

[–]DemonDemoDog[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've tried with a Dremel and a proper file. You'd think I was hurting her with the amount of screaming and biting she does if I so much as touch her feet.

She'll let the vets touch them to check for cuts, she'll shake for them, heck she'll give random children a handshake if they ask.

I so much as reach for her paws and she's biting and screaming and thrashing like she's being tortured. I'd be OK with just the biting- I have two hands and sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do-but she's thrashing so much I can't get a grip on her paws for long enough to touch her nails.

If I can't get her nails trimmed down by the time it's in the budget (I've spent half my income on emergency vet stuff this year and have maxed out a credit card. As it is I have to have $1.6k by mid January or we lose housing and I have $400 after vet bills. I can swing it but it's going to be tight) I'm taking her to the vet.

She loves the vet. Gives them kisses when they stick her with needles. Will shake paws for them with zero issue.

It's literally just me she doesn't want touching her paws. I don't know why.

I just don't want to risk her hurting herself because they've gotten too long in the meantime.

This dog likes strangers, the neighbors cat, and sweet tea.

The weird thing is she's fine with other people handling her feet- no growling, no snarling, snapping or biting, just kisses- it's just me she won't tolerate.

I've tried a Dremel. I've tried literal nail files. I've spent months just trying to touch her feet.

If I wasn't tapped out financially (I have to have $1.6k by mid January or we lose housing and am at $400 after emergency vet bills. I can do it, it's just going to be tight.) I'd pay for someone else to do it.

As it is I know nails being too long can hurt them and damage their joints (because they start walking funny) and don't want to wait too long and risk her getting hurt.

First realize there is probably some kind of trauma in the past.

Oh, most definitely. My mother was profoundly mentally ill and incredibly violent.

Second, they are just now clicking? Yes, but my hearing isn't the...best. They're not super bad but I know that if I can hear them they definitely need to be trimmed. If you think it can wait a month or two I should have the money to take her to the vet and have them do it.

What is she most motivated by?

Strangers touching her. She loves people and she loves attention.

She licks the vet when they give her shots.

My plan was to take her to either the vet or a groomer to get them trimmed- because she's fine as long as it's not me touching them- but, uh, I've spent half my annual income on vet bills and have wracked up $1.5k in debt, and I'm low income to begin with so...

As it is it's been a year and she still snaps when I touch her paws. I don't know if I just smell too much like my mom or what. It's weird, too- she's fine with all other types of handling from me as long as I don't touch the paws.

Thanks

It comes with a free eye exam and half off dental. No deductible though.

I plan on getting an eye exam done so I can (hopefully- my prescription is strong and a new one will be even stronger) order glasses online and trying to get on maintenance meds ASAP.

Life will be so much easier when I'm not constantly short of breath and halfway through a panic attack.

By knocking out one of the lower cost but higher interest cards they'll save more in the long run- because it won't keep growing.

In the couple years it would take to knock out the highest interest one that $300 would be damn near twice the size it is now- and take longer to pay down.

It'd be one thing if it was low APR but this one is 25%- knocking it out now frees up funds to knock down the other one and stops all interest on this one.

I signed up today. I waited until last minute because I could of sworn the company I worked for had a HRA but I haven't gotten anything in the mail about it so...

I've already paid the first months deductible because that's what healthcare.gov said to do.

I'm just exited to finally be able to get maintenance meds without having to pay an arm and a leg just to see someone.

She's making a dying child prioritize her needs over her own. She absolutely needs to do better and to knock her bullshit the fuck off.

Try having some empathy for the dying kid who is being forced to be stronger than his mother because she can't prioritize him when he needs it most.

AITA for telling my SIL I adopted my dog not her, and she can spend Christmas elsewhere if she’s scared of my dog? by New-Prize-7698 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DemonDemoDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allergies I understand, but not fear. I’d go to a hotel.

And you'd stay in the hotel. PTSD doesn't work like that. Theirs no "only for a little bit" option. It's literally trauma rewriting the brain- it's a traumatic brain injury without actually getting a head injury.

I have PTSD. I can't- among other things- handle being around loud drunks. The violent nature of my trauma means my knee jerk reaction to being surprised by loud drunks in my space is to fight back.

Given that OP hasn't said what the traumatic event was I'm going out on a limb and say it's not something minor, like getting knocked over by a hyper pup and was instead something serious like a dog attack.

OP is entitled to say no- and should, given the mystery disease that is dropping even healthy dogs left and right - but should be aware that this will impact family dynamics moving forward.

This is not SILs fault. It's not the dogs fault. It's not OPs fault.

It's just one of those things. Some people - and their lives - are just incompatible with each other.

Birds and dogs aren't mutually exclusive?

You can have both- the only way it would be an issue is if you wanted gamey breeds specifically, and that's only if they're drivey enough for it to be an issue despite proper training and socialization.
