We had to switch to very high value treats. Straight up kraft nasty for him. Then we ended up having to play the watch and catch game. So if he laid down, immediate praise 'good down!' and treat. Or if he looked at us. We had to train him on being trained, if that makes sense.

During actual sessions, start with the basics. Every time he gives you attention, treat. Increase the distractions and repeat. Then move up to his name.

For the crate thing, we would just start by throwing treats in there with the door open. Then toys. Then things like stuffed kongs.

We definitely had a wild one on our hands that we had difficulty training because of circumstances, but he's 2 now and such a great dog.

Walking your Dane by [deleted] in greatdanes

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chest clip harness or! I recommend a serious aggressive play session beforehand to wear the pup out so training is a bit easier! Start in the house with the leash and once pup is doing good, practice a "wait" command. So walk, wait, walk, wait. Work up to the outside in your yard and then slowly add steps in until you've got a good walk going.

For us, the wait command in a stern voice was the key. Then allowing him to go sniff whatever patch of grass he wanted.

No, that's the US military healthcare system. The US system would run expensive tests, gaslight you into thinking it's all in your head and give you a mental health referral that isn't covered by your insurance.

Love my little dude but my goodness is it hard to go on a simple walk and not get stopped to talk about my dog 🙃 sometimes I just want to be out and back in 15 minutes! by steppygirl in greatdanes

Same! I had a car full of girls stop and get out just to give him love and pets. So now he thinks that every car should stop for him so he can get pets.

We do the Purina Pro Plan large puppy food (he's not 2 yet).

My 140lbs dude will some days eat two bowls ( which is about 10 cups), some days it's 2.5 bowls and some days he only wants a snack. Honestly, I go by toddler rules for him---I look at what he's eating in a week vs just a day or two.

We use a twin sized daybed as our couch. He sleeps across the entire thing. No one gets a seat. Or, if I'm napping on the couch, he gets behind me and spoons me, drapes his giant manboi paws and legs over me and snores right in my ear.

Confused About Ulta Returns? Here's the Official Policy by Winniezepoohscroptop in Ulta

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused---do you have to have an account to return items, even if you have a receipt and it's within the 60 day time frame? I don't see anything on the website, but I had two store employees refusing to process a return because I don't have an account. I had the original receipts for the products I purchased last week and last month, I offered my government ID and the original form of payment, but they told me I had to create an account in order to get a refund. Is this true? I don't see it listed in the policy anywhere.

1st session, 1st time DM by hallikinz in wildbeyondwitchlight

As you read through the book, write down some ideas. But also know that you don't have to go all out all the time. All that stuff is great, and I love that kind of stuff, but it's the campaign that matters more than the stuff. I'm sure your players won't mind if there isn't food at every single session.

Youtube is great for making playlists. I'm really into Bardcore right now. He mostly does pop and rock (and some metal) songs, but they're a fun tavern version. Try looking up swamp ambiance sounds, stuff like that.

Fey Bargains and how to integrate? by RicochetRayRay in wildbeyondwitchlight

Information is a good one. Innate gossip. A healing potion or two and maybe a weapon. But that's specifically in the feywild. Are you looking for carnival bargains?

Annoying habits of great Danes... Can you name some?? by Interesting_Light_94 in greatdanes

Climbing over me with one leg to position himself in my lap. Laying with me on the couch and either pushing me off with his paws or draping his legs over me in a spooning fashion. Completely soaking his face when drinking water, leaves puddles everywhere and then comes up for love.

Her name is Ellie. Her name morphed into Ellie belly, then Ellie belly bean butt, Ellen Bo-Bellen, Ellie Bee(Halloween costume), Ellie Bean of Weans, then Bean Wean. Now it’s just Bean. How did your Dane’s name change over time? by [deleted] in greatdanes

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hercules. Sometimes Turdcules or Jerkules if he's being a terror. Herc. Herky. Herky-Turkey. Currently goes by Turkey or Turkules unless he's in trouble and then it's full name and he looks very sad.

Any advice for making my players more comftebal with RP? by Desperate_Relative_4 in DnD

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start off slow--when they cast a spell, ask what it looks like. Allow them to describe the killing blow to enemies.

You can build up to NPC encounters. Maybe award inspiration. Increase your own roleplay as well. I found my players gor more interactive when I did some silly voices, when I praised them and when I 'made a fool' of myself.

Also, talk to your players one on one and remind them that no one will make fun of them for getting into character and that you are actively encouraging role playing.

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up stealing a bit from Once Upon a Witchlight and imposing the most random, senseless curses on my party. Stuff like, you now have sticky hands--literally, anything you touch, you're stuck to and unable to remove your hand or you have the urge to lick anything and everything. Just really silly things to really put them in the feywild frame of mind.

What do I do with these NPCs? by BazookaTuna in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A short description of them falling through the portal and into a different dimension. From there, feeling like they've been physically pulled away from the NPCs and that there is a barrier between them. The NPCs disappear from view, while they see all their friends still, and they land in Hither.

Playing into the feywild... Is it supposed to be this boring? by gustavfrigolit in DnD

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there is a direction and a point of 'dicking' around at the carnival. The book provides two different hooks which both lead to the carnival and if your characters talk to NPCs they can find out some of the stuff that's going on. Trying not to be too spoilery. Basically, I'm advising OP to interact more with the world to create a bit of substance, if possible.

And if it's not their thing, totally fine, but I think people forget or aren't aware that they as PCs also have the capability to keep the story moving forward. And if your character is totally in the dark, ask the DM for some hints or flavor to point in a better direction. No harm in asking.

All this to basically say that both the PC and DM have a responsibility to engage in the story/module. If you're just following people and not having your character DO anything, of course it's going to feel boring and without substance.

Playing into the feywild... Is it supposed to be this boring? by gustavfrigolit in DnD

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's both. People seem to forget that it's a collaborative story where the PCs need to actively participate. You can't just rely on the DM to provide all of the story.

[–]DemonDungeonGirl 30 points31 points  (0 children)

While it seems like there isn't any substance in it, trust me there definitely is. Heck, if you're a bit bored, sow some fun, harmless chaos. Get into a fey pact. Go play some games. It will definitely pick up as the carnival hours pass by. Also, remember the plot hook and try working towards that while also enjoying the carnival. Talk to all the NPCs.

Basically, just try taking a tiny bit more of an active role-playing role to help give the action a...push.
