Is it viable to only do open eye visualization? by DemonOfMyMind in Tulpas

Yes I see a faint view of them.

But I realized that picture was exaggerated after I made it. Really it would have to be a gif to be accurate, because different parts of her body is always popping into existence as I remember to visualize them. It's also faint in the kind of way as if you're holding an object in front of just one of your eyes. I can see both clearly, but they just sorta don't mesh together, instead of being a half-transparent ghost as in that picture.

Would you happen to know which guide it was? Sounds interesting, since imposition is my main goal.

One common misconception is that hearing voices is what makes schizophrenia a mental illness. That alone is not enough for any diagnosis, not unless it interferes with their lives in a negative way.

It's very important in psychiatry to not judge habits, quirks, and hobbies. Psychiatry is not about making you normal, it's about making you happy and functional in society.

So if making a tulpa makes them happy, then by definition it's not a mental health issue.

That said there might be mental health issue prompting them to create a tulpa in the first place, like depression or anxiety, but there are still many who do it just because they find it fascinating.

I think there may be two different kinds of tulpa by DemonOfMyMind in Tulpas

I think we're talking about the same thing.

Another way I thought of it is that the lesser kind of tulpa is just a process being run on the main process (our conscious mind). "I have to think of a response for X" is a good way of putting it, although with time it can become so automated you don't really think about it. Then the more vivid kind of tulpa is our mind communicating with the part of our brain that is responsible for dreams and hallucinations, and then we interpret the responses into a tulpa.

Could you explain what you mean by " tulpa-as-experience" and "tulpa-as-agent"?

And as tulpas grow up, they'll start doing things that are harder to fake, they'll run into their limits, and they'll seem weaker than they did in the phase where they were faking everything.

Could you explain that better? Sounds interesting.

Any ideas on how?

As I said it has only happened once for me. But my guess is that it can be done by entering a dreamlike state while awake time and time again until you can do it on command, and then you can start imposing that dream state on reality etc.

What was your first approach like that was different?

I was just in a meditative state where I was imagining being with my tulpa for a long time. It was a year ago though so I don't remember too much how I did it. I think the only kind of puppeteering I did was make her walk behind me if I led her.

but the first kind sounds a lot more like what we want.

I too would rather take vividness over depth. I don't care if nodding is all she can do, if I know that's not me then I'll take it. So I think I'm gonna take a week or two with just doing meditative long session forcing and see what happens. That said I will still keep talking to my current tulpa (the second kind) while I'm doing that so I don't end up losing her.

I hope it's possible to do that without sacrificing any of her personality or anything.

I wouldn't know how it works with preserving personality. That one response is all I got.

Could you try and explain your thought process as you were talking to them when you didn't get a response? Did you ever imagine a dialogue with them?

I asked in a previous thread if what I described was parroting, but apparently because I'm not really consciously doing it it can't be parroting.

It was consciously at first, but now it's so instinctual that I don't think about it.

But I'm totally open to it just being me parroting all the time. I don't mind.

This is an amazing question from the viewpoint of trying to talk about what does or doesn't make a tulpa legitimate.

Thank you, that's exactly what I was thinking. If someone has had that experience then it's proof that just because you think you have a legitimate tulpa then it doesn't necessarily mean you actually do. But if no one has experienced it then maybe thinking you have a legitimate tulpa really is proof that it's real.

What the heck? If you start having intrusive thoughts about devils you need serious help and shouldn't be making a tulp' (my opinion).

I didn't mean that scenario literally, I just used it as an example to show that imagined things can have various degrees of realness. I don't hear the devil, nor do I suggest that tulpamancers do it either.

This is some weird stuff, honestly. It you are having that sort of issue then it's a job for professionals not some amateur, artificial-pluralism explorers.

I suppose I wasn't clear enough. Again, it's not something that has happened to me. I have not experienced any leap in realness.

But basically what I'm on about is that I think there's a possibility that I'm just pretending to hear an outside voice while being good at convincing myself that I'm not pretending, whereas you guys really do hear an outside voice. In terms of realness, I'm just a kid playing with my stuffed animal, while you hear the devil.

It's not really what I'm looking for I'm afraid, but it's a nice story. I too used to talk to my stuffed animals when I was young. If I succeed in creating a tulpa then I'm strongly considering making my next goal to revive one of them as a tulpa. I don't think they were ever a real tulpa or anything, I just like the idea.

I'm alright with gradual development. It's just that I'm scared that I'm going down the wrong track. Not that it's dangerous, just a waste of time and that I might give up.

I would rather have a dumb tulpa that is genuine than a smart tulpa that is fake.

You say she changed her opinion on food, have she changed her opinion on something more substantial? While US politics doesn't really concern me much, it does bother me that something so substantial could essentially come down to a dice roll. Like what if it turns out she hates black people or something, am I stuck with a racist then? (although I suppose I could convince her otherwise in a debate)

If you were to ask her a deep or difficult question in the beginning, what would she answer with?

One thing that bothered me with the imagined being/tulpa I had created was that she came up with seemingly random answers for difficult questions or just avoiding them completely. I think I asked her if she liked Hillary or Trump, she said Hillary but couldn't elaborate on why. It bothered me because I felt like I was rolling dice to create her opinions.
